  1. ^ Agreed! Section 8, Welfare, WIC, etc etc..all good things for a TEMPORARY fix....the original intent. A safety net to help get youback on your feet and and become productive again. Problem is (no matter how many studies or whatever you want to show me) too many people make a lifestyle out of it...and on top of that it becomes generational. Do I have hard facts, figures, polls, blind tests, or WHATEVER to back this up...no! I just see it, up close and personal. All the social services seem to out of control and way out of line from the idea that hatched them. Yes, there are social and societal reason for CERTAIN problems....but let's get to the root of the problem..it comes from within. Again, parents need to parent....kids need to go to school and FINISH. Kids need to learn respect. They need to be punished for their wrong doings. I was! I didn't turn out to be a mass murderer or a killer because I got a smack on the ass once in a while. (neither did my friends) There is way too much psycho babble hooey out there....we need to get back to basics....look at our grandparents..I wonder how many "time outs" they got when they did something wrong? I am old school...I believe in old school..it seemed to work pretty damn well then....compare our educational system then to now..compare violent crimes then to now. Maybe if there wasn't such a big safety net there to catch everyone...then more people might not walk the tightrope so wildly. There are WAY too many able bodied people out there that are sitting on their cans everyday! Why not instead of handing money or food stamps out....make them work for it? I see a lot of cleaning up that could be done around the city (graffiti, trash, etc) that could be done. Maybe if some of the same people that are sitting around MAKING these problems have to actually clean up after themselves....the problem might diminish? Who knows? All I know, I am not a big fan of how our country runs it's social services... not enough for those that deserve it and too much for the leaches that don't!
  2. ^ WOW..all that REALLY goes on here? I am usually too drunk to get off the couch..... :drunk:

Before anyone asks...I was the guy from the Parma F.D. that was caught flashing around the West side a while back, for Halloween last year.
  4. ^ Well stated....I have lived it too, and have no desire to live near it anymore...
  5. Okay...to start..I will take the blame for this..but "I" didn't read NOR write this blog....my friend did this while I was not paying attention as a joke on me. She thinks I am a big goof for being a skyscraper freak and figured she would start this rumor on MY behalf. As much as I wish this were true, it isn't. Lesson learned: don't leave myself signed in when in the shower! Sorry all.....

Those two chicks must be at least 40 or 50 ft tall! Did you see how much bigger they are than the cars!?!?!
  8. Did anyone read the article out of Chicago about the engineering company that has plans for an 1100ft + tower planned for Cleveland's "city center square"?
  9. ^agreed.....but the point is...why the hell do people have to take it that far? Between everyone crying about this or that..or suing about this or that...this country can sometimes make me ill!
  10. Maybe OSU will play St. Ignatius too!! I attended Kent for a while before playing at Akron..both schools I root for, OSU would kill either team....and let's be serious....YSU is no match. This is only a "spoiler" type game...not a good non-conference match up for OSU to put on the schedule IMO. Even when I was at Akron, the guys on paper looked ALMOST as big, but being there, you realize that the guys at OSU are just a little stronger, faster, and more skilled as a whole....and that makes all the difference in the world when it comes to football. As awesome as Mt. Union is year after year, they couldn't hold the jocks for BGSU or Toledo, let alone a team like OSU. Yes, YSU is a bigger school than Mount, but it is what it is....this will be a great opportunity for YSU though. Will be interesting to see.

This thread is starting to look like something on Cleveland.com instead UrbanOhio.....hope it gets back on track with actual INFORMATION rather than just opinions....but that is just MY opinion. (BTW Rep, Cleveland had 115 murders last year...should make you VERY proud!)
  14. ^ Agreed...the Big three (maybe 4) make the other buildings to the East look smaller than they actually are. The residential density in the Cincy picture to the North is definitely worth noting. It is just different types of building...in Cleveland you have more large condo or apt buildings, while from the pics I have seen in Cincy, there seem to be more smaller buildings packed closely together. This gives the impression of a very dense area. Unfortunately Cleveland lost many of those same type buildings throughout not just the downtown area, but even throughout the city, long ago. Since we are only really talking about downtown, I would have to say Cleveland is a very "angular" city....from certain aspects, it looks kind of spread out...like views from the West (except maybe going into the city from the Main Ave bridge), but when you stand at E 9th and Euclid or E 9th and Prospect...looking in any direction the buildings go quite far. * My personal favorite is the view from UH to downtown following Euclid Ave at dusk. ( can be seen on this site in the Cleveland skyline page 5th column, 8th row down)

I am not from "da hood", nor am I into hip hop...but for someone to say I don't understand what goes on there....please. I DO work in some rough ass areas in this city on the East side of Cleveland. I work for the fire department as some of you already may know. We don't JUST fight fires, but we respond to many other types of calls as well whether they be medical, or other emergency(or so perceived by the callers). I see truly nice, hard working people that deserve much better than the areas they live. I also see other people that are truly leeches of society, that are able bodied do nothings that cry, bitch, and moan and expect everything for nothing. I am sorry, but the "struggle" IMO came from people that fought the power back in the day to make changes...that changed laws...that worked hard to make things better for themselves and the people they represented. Unfortunately I see a lot of people riding on the coat tails of there forefathers but doing nothing to change things for themselves. There are good and bad people from all different backgrounds, there is no disputing that. Sometimes it happens that people may be poor, but is it necessary to be dirty? Can you be poor and at the same time take care of your belongings, your property, and yourself to the best you can? Of course! Does being poor mean you must throw your trash on the ground or out of the car window? Lets face it, parents need to be parents (I used the word in a plural form because I truly believe there are WAY too many inattentive single parents out there...kids having kids) We know how babies are made, so don't blast a load and knock a woman up unless you are man enough to be a true FATHER and husband....not a baby daddy. School is free...yes FREE...Go there, study, get an education, get a job....don't rely on the ole "I can't get a job because of...(insert this or that)" This thread made me very angry because people seem to be proud of there "dangerous areas"...like it is a badge of honor!!! A badge of honor is getting educated, getting a job, and being a person that contributes to society. People need to STOP looking at other people or elsewhere for their own short comings.....when times get tough...suck it up and do something about it. Dealing, robbing, shooting, beating....those are NOT the answer.....teach..no...POUND it everyday into the brains of your children...BREAK the cycle as a society...not just as an individual. I could go on and on...I do see it...I have seen plenty of people gunned down..DEAD...it isn't "cool"...it sucks to see dead kids. I am 37...when I see an 18, 19, 20 year old it makes me sick to think that they didn't HAVE to be that way...they were set into the "mold" the mindset....it is all bullshit people....there is nothing good about it. We can "brag" about how rough OTR compared to E 105 area is...but does it really matter? Does the buildings that OTR have make it rougher than E 105 because it is a "different" type hood? Let's look at the number of murders that every city has each year and brag? I may be over sensitive or an Ahole for going off like this...but this topic is just SAD. Coldayman...I think even YOU may agree on this one without bustin my balls(but I won't hold my breath!! lol) Will my rant piss people off? maybe...do I care? NO I am stating it as I as I see it...as the age old proverbial saying goes..SOMETHING has to change, and it has to come from within for the cycle to break....okay..enough...OUT
  16. For Pete's sake..it's a freakin pat down..BIG DEAL..get over it!! To many uptight people out there.... As soon as someone were to smuggle some sort of explosive device in..then those same people will be asking "Why didn't they have better security"?
  17. ^ I don't "demand" anything....I live in the city of Cleveland...but have also lived in a rural area as well....both have good and bad....rural speaking...there weren't many panhandlers or crackheads walking the streets to deal with...but on the other hand, driving 20 min one way to buy a gallon of milk was a bitch as well! (no, I DIDN'T have a cow) Like I said, BOTH areas have great qualities.....but as for the "burbs"..you can keep em. I am with you on SYC...never said anything bad about the place.
  18. ^ If it were up to SOME of the people on here...I am sure they would LOVE to see us become an island of Ohio!
  19. Personally, I don't like living near section 8 housing, but that is just MY personal choice. I think Lakewod is starting to take the same stance by wanting to change doubles into singles to get rid of absentee landlords AND sec 8 housing stock. Too bad it came to that because it will reduce the density in Lakewood eventualy. I guess I am the weirdo in this site....I am not big on suburbia at all, I enjoy urban living, but at the same time....I love the rural lifestyle as well (I guess since I have lived in both worlds)....
  20. ^ Wasn't meant to be a convincing argument, it was meant to say that for pro casino backers, why not get a foot in to the door and get them here, no matter where....than to kill it for the whole state. I am sure that if they were in the state, then Cincinnati would get theirs too eventually. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the train of thought here is..."If WE don't get it...then NOBODY should".
  21. The views are interesting...but how will the mall or lake look (the views) from the proposed CC at the mall.....and what WILL become of the SP in the future...not too sure if that is a valid comparison. I DO agree that we need to get out of towners into the town, but to be honest...we need to get out of towners herein the first place. Just MY opinion, TC is a better choice because of the proximity of many things conventions look for (transportation, sporting events, restaurants, play house{when Euclid corridor is done} bars, etc, etc) I KNOW I will be blasted for saying that, but just my opinion. As much as I find the malls a beautiful asset, there needs to be more to make the area "inviting" at all hours. After the Ingenuity fest, I walked through there and it was beautiful at night...but eerily silent. The only sign of life there was the two homelss guys drinking 40's in mall C. I am torn on what should be done about that area and where the CC should go. I just think TC has too many things in place already which may leave the mall site out of the loop. It would be nice to maybe see the current CC become a major indoor activity area as mentioned in an earlier thread.
  22. It's played up UP here as well...lot's of little bars even have cornhole leagues....Mayday...I am leaving that one open for you to finish! LOL
  23. ^^^^LOL...I've seen his pictures....slap a wig on him and after a long night of drinking...he may have fooled me! (just having fun at your expense mayday) :-D
  24. Wicker Park...I think I found a cheap hooker there....oh wait..maybe that was Detroit Ave here in Cleveland...shit..I was too drunk, I can't remember....
