Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Three dollars too much? That is freakin CHEAP! MTA (NYC) all day "fun pass" isn't THAT fun...it costs $7! Obviously MTA is a much more massive and comprehensive transit system, but the ridership is massive as well. Even if RTA raises the all day pass to $4 it would still be a deal. Try driving and paying for parking (be it parking lots or pumping money into meters all day with the threat of getting a parking fine)...I am sure three or four bucks isn't a bad option.

Where to go in Cincy?...
As a Clevelander, I must admit I have never been to the city down South...Cincinnati. I have heard good and not so good, so it's about time to find out for myself. I have heard (and seen the pics) that it is a beautiful city, but I have also heard it is a bit reserved, a slower pace, and a bit boring. I have heard this from people who have moved there from here, and from people who have moved here from there. I want to be proven wrong about my assumption!!! I have tried Columbus many times, it is a nice place, but when going out, things just seem to spread out for me. Here in Cleveland, downtown has the warehouse district, gateway, and the theater district all within a short trolley(bus) ride or walk. (for those unfamiliar, they are areas with many bars, clubs and restaurants). Then in either direction (East or West) with a short train, bus or cab ride, you have Ohio City, Tremont, or Lakewood (all West) and University Circle (many museums) Little Italy, and Coventry(all East). As you can see, I am looking not to be driving over a huge sprawled out area when I go out. I would love suggestions on where to go in Cincy. Is(are) there an area(s) where there are many things in close proximity? I am a thirty something and so are my friends, we are looking for pubs, lounge type places, and maybe a few clubs. Any upscale Latin clubs? Not really looking for the hip hop scene. Suggestions for restaurants would be nice as well. Is there a museum or theater district? I would appreciate all and any suggestions! I am sure there will be no shortage of ideas for me on this post! Thanks

Cleveland - next UrbanOhio forum meet will be....
I would like to join the fun as well....I have never done an UrbanOhio event, I think it would be cool to meet some new people! If you want to really do a pub crawl, then maybe we should start on Madison Ave in Lakewood and work our way East(or the other way around)? I will be just getting off shift from the fire station that morning...so I wll be ready to roll!

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I received my response from RTA via email today about the signage suggestion at the airport (more signs, bigger signs, and change "rapid transit" to "TRAINS")...the response was.."Thank you, we will forward your suggestion to the sign department"...... The other day on the way back from NYC, I was buying a ticket for the train, there were two guys from out of town asking the attendant in the both how to take the train to downtown. They had obviously never used the system before, so they weren't sure where to go. The attendant never looked up, she just kept repeating loudly "TOWER CITY". If you are from out of town, what the fuck does that mean? I had to explain to them, (loud enough for her to hear) that TC is the main stop downtown where you can catch other trains, buses, and it is in the city center. Then I apologized to them for the unprofessionalism of certain employees. It is disgraceful of how rude some of the employees can be at times! I love the train, but they really need to work on how that thing is run. Please announce ALL stop in plain English! If you have a muliple car train, please open all the doors so people can exit! I was on the second car the other day, the train stopped at the West Blvd station, but the only door the operator opened was the very front door of the first car! I missed my stop, because the opertator opened only doors to the first car! They should at least warn people that only one car will be opened at certain stops. I love the rapid, but it's the little things that piss me off, it makes the Rapid seem so bush league at times!

Cleveland: Kassouf Hi-Rise Plans
I sent a letter to the editor (PD) yesterday about the topic....they caled me today saying they were considering publication. I hope they don't edit it too much...but it basically deals with the city, the developers, parking, and RTA....I believe if all involved work together on the project, maybe some good will come. I just hope it doesn't turn into a one person take all scenario.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Meth has yet, IMO, not even begun to get big here yet. It seemed to have started on the Western edge of the Midwest and has been working it's way to the East. It is popular because it has an intense high that seems to last longer than crack(NOT from personal use experience,I just work in the Fire/EMS service) it is fairly cheap to buy AND make, and pretty much everything you need to make it can be found in the local hardware store. These labs are not hard to make, and they can be a permanent set up in a house or set up in the back of a van. The drug itself is very addictive and dangerous, but from a work standpoint, these "labs" can be very dangerous as well. They are very volatile and have a high incidence of explosion if the "technician" doesn't know what they are doing. I am sure I missed a few things, this was just off the top of my head...

Ohio: Foreclosure News & Info
I think that these people are complete A-holes for taking advantage of these people, but at the same time, I have to put some of the blame on the home owners. People have to start thinking on their own sometimes. Simple math can tell you how much one can afford for a house. People tend to think that they can count on overtime or other unstable income to make up for what they can and cannot afford. Between utilities, car payments, insurance, food/clothing expenditures, entertainment money, and what I call "emergency" money...add it up...compare that to your assured monthly income...and figure out what you can afford. It is nice to think on your own sometimes rather than to trust some stranger telling you what you can of cannot afford. I am not putting all the blame on the homeowners, but people, please start thinking about it when people are trying to sell you a bill of goods!

Suburban Cleveland: Development and News
As mentioned earlier. I wonder what kind of impact this will have on Steelyard Commons? With what seems to be a better location for visibility and traffic, paired with more residents and futher development downtown, it seems like Steelyard Commons could be in trouble before it even starts. I would hate to see that land be wasted on a project that could very well be destined to become a Steelyard Ghetto. I hope I am wrong....

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I like the commercials as well.....when I was in NYC last week watching the game, it was cool seeing Cleveland represented on TV...and it was even cooler seeing more people watch the TV's with the Cavs on, and less watching the Stankees...I mean Yankees.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
I know I am going to receive a verbal ass kicking for this....but I absolutely HATE that tower....it looks like an old abandoned beehive. The only thing I would miss about that tower gone is the height. I would hope if a new tower is built, it would be at LEAST the same height. On a side not...I wish that section of downtown would be better lit to show off the buildings...when you roll into town up 71 or 77, it looks like there are only three buildings until you get very close.

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
KJP, I love the renderings that you have come up with for many projects around the city, and this one is as good as any....the question is, have you sent these ideas to people who are directly linked to the projects? Have they seen any of your ideas or plans? If so, what kind of feedback have you gotten on them.....from either the ODOT side, or the anti ODOT side?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I wonder if RTA will consider adding a third car to it's rail lines...I have noticed, especially during "rush hour" times, that there are many cars on various lines that are standing room only. I wonder how much more it costs RTA to run a three car train instead of a two? Any word if they will add another car to relieve the demand?

Cleveland: Monopoly Vote

Ohio's tallest
What really sucks is that I WAS on the scaffolding of the TT, in fact, I was on the highest spot above the scaffolding that anyone can walk on the TT. I had my picture taken right next to the red warning light at the top and I took a bunch of other pretty cool pictures while I was up there for the fire departent inspection we did a few months ago...the unfortunate part is, before I could download the pics to my computer, I friggin dropped and broke my camera phone and the pictures couldn't be transfered!!! THAT sucked. I hope we can get back up there so I can retake the pics! The view was awesome!

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
Is elevated rail an absolute negative? I am sure there are newer, more modern ways of elevating rail to make it more pleasing to the landscape than the behemoth railways of NYC or Chicago (even though I like the urban feel they give). Corridors such as the Parma or even the Clifton area could really benefit from this(IMO).

Is Over-the-Rhine As Bad As They Say?
What shocks me it that Cincinnati PD would let this area get that far out of control. I have never been to Cincy, but from the pics, it seems like a cool area. I am glad for Cincy that this area is being cleaned up!
