  1. I don't have a digital camera...YET...but does anyone know the age of the log cabin along the Cuyahoga River near the swing bridge in Cleveland? If I recall correctly, I believe it was the original site of the first settlement in the city...
  2. Are we having a Latin power struggle entre Columbus y Cleveland? I love being a white Irishman and able to understand Spanish!! (plus the women are HOT too!) I didn't know Cbus had a big Latin (or Chicano?) population....didn't mean to start another Spanish/American war! LOL
  3. I wonder where the stats for these articles come from....it stated that Columbus has 60,000 hispanics...when not too long ago I read that Cleveland(somewhere around 35,000) had the most hispanics followed by Lorain?

That looks like a nice little parade...typical Ohio weather..nice and gloomy this time of year! Unfortunately BOTH Ohio teams got beat by BOTH Chicago teams on their opening days!

They absolutely CRUSHED tonight! And all that with Z gone in under three minutes. I hate to see hurt, hopefully it will just be a minor sprain. Here is something to ponder though....does anyone think that maybe Z slows down the game when he is in. He is a great 10-12 ft shooter, and a great garbage player underneath...but the game they playes today was very fast and athletic..I wonder if that lineup could be an option in the future?
  6. Glad to hear they will at least front the sidewalk...are there any other things going in with it? And I KNOW this is getting off the subject....but are the proposed stores off of 117th near I-90 (Target?) going to front the sidewalk as well? and/or be multi level like other ventures I have seen? Top of 6th..Tribe 7 White Sux 1
  7. Speaking of store fronts on Madison....I may be the last to know this, but I was told by the bartender last night that the tavern right there on Madison and Warren was closing down in June because they are going to rip the WHOLE building down to build yet ANOTHER Walgreens! How many freaking drug stores do we need in this area!
  8. KJP......does anybody at RTA know about any of these threads? Do they actually read what the RIDERSHIP thinks? Between this thread, west side transit, and what other states do.....do they have ANY clue? I know you seem to have some sort of working relationship with those people, do they ever mention some of the ideas written....do you ever encourage them to check out what the PEOPLE think? Some of the ideas I have read on these threads seem like no brainers! Keep up the good ideas, the informative threads...and the hope that maybe some of this will sink in to the ones in charge! Good job everyone!
  9. Just curious DainDC as to why you think it is such a bad idea? I have used the Blue line often in Chicago, and I love to see the cars sitting there in traffic as the El wizzes by. Here in Cleveland, we have the RTA bus "park n ride" system....but the thing is, those buses sit in traffic just like the cars. I always wondered how many more riders RTA might have if it were a rail line in the median instead of a bus route on the highway. If you could actually park and RIDE without traffic, the highways may not be as jammed up and it may spur ridership even from the burbs. But then again...I have no degree in urban planning or transportation. :)
  10. I'm surprised the Port Authority didn't swoop down on you for taking pictures of the bridges! HOMELAND SECURITY!! Great pics!!!!!
  11. I AM a union worker, proud of it, and would never want to change that. I come from a family of union workers...in fact, my grandfather organized the unions waaay back in the day in the western PA coal mines...you think unions are bad...you should have worked for the "company" back then! The ONLY reason that companies that are non-union now treat their employees well...is fear of unionizing. Whether people realize it or not, even non-union companies are kept somewhat in check. Read your history and see how employees were treated at one time. Trust me, it isn't union wages that kill companies....it's mismanagement. GM was used as one example of how unions killed the company...wages? NO they have less employees now than ever, use more robotics which don't collect paychecks, outsource more, etc....yet somehow it's the unions breaking the company? I wonder if the average person knows what percentage it actually costs GM for labor and materials? You might be surprised at how little it is. Most of these companies "lose" money because they don't meet their "projected" profits...when in reality, they really didn't lose anything. But hey, let all industry leave the country, leaving only low paying jobs, service jobs, and "white collar" jobs here....someday the wonderful "free trade" concept is going to bite us all in the ass.....but...just MHO...
  12. Funny...it seems when a company breaks the hold of those teeeerrible unions...you would think they would be able to sell the product at a little cheaper price.....NOT The unions aren't the evil everyone wants to make them out to be....
  13. lol...and don't forget the latinos as well.....right across from 54th is a very good authentic pizza place....ecuadorian I think!?! That whole sub "7 line" area there is very diverse...and her being peruvian/spanish and me being Irish..I love the mix of great food around there..and GREAT Irish pubs! And she wants to move to Cleveland!?!?! are you kidding me!?!?!
  14. Cool pictures! That is what a city looks like! oh wait..that wasn't Over-the-rhine was it? lol NYC rules..Cleveland rules! If you ever get a chance, do a photo op of Woodside, Queens....give a special shout out to 54th and Roosevelt...my girl lives there...
  15. X...not sure if it's my sick sense of humor..but that comment had me pissing my pants! Funny stuff! Why would ODNR block this? How many bird are killed by windmills each year?

I have to go with the majority on this on...NY style folded...I hate deep dish! Damn...now I am going to have to go buy a slice somewhere...any good suggestions for NY style here on the near West side (Cleveland)?

This is not a well written site...but there are interesting points .... http://www.thewebfairy.com/killtown/index.html Being a memeber of the Cleveland Fire Department, we were called to Hopkins Airport for the plane from Boston...while we were there, the skies were erily empty when the (found out afterwards) plane headed to D.C. flew overhead.....but what I saw, along with others there...was a military type jet on the trail of the jetliner (approx 1-2 min behind)...this was never mentioned on the news...but we saw it! Who knowswhat really happened, but it was interesting info. As for building "7" collapse at the WTC..makes no sense the way it fell...there was minimal fire damage and the building imploded. No other steel structure in history has collapsed like that, and some have been through much more extensive fire damage. (read the history of what was in building 7, then things seem to get more confusing! The one strange thing about the Pentagon that baffles me...where are all the plane parts, luggage, of even bodies at after the crash? The lawn wasn't even touched! Interestingly enough, the security cam on site caught an inmage of something crashing into the building, but the speed and the angle of impact don't seem to equal that of an airplane.... This topic will always be debated and no answers will ever be good enough for either side....but it's interesting to talk about!
  18. I have never been to King's Island....but it seems when I have watched the Discovery Channel when they review and rank amusement parks and their coasters, Cedar Point and it's coasters are always at the top or in the top few....but I have never really heard KI mentioned.... Maybe if LeBron rode the Beast he would be tempted to be traded to the basketball team down that way, oh wait.... My nomination is the chapel at the Lakeview Cemetary here in Cleveland...the Tiffany Glass artwork on the inside is unbelieveable!
  19. What are the odds that they will build a replacement tower of at least the same height as the old one?
  20. As great as this sounds..I am not holding my breath. I don't think casinos are the absolute answer, but I would like to see that money stay here instead of go elsewhere. Plain and simple, we need good, sound, higher end paying jobs to get Ohio's economy going again. Casinos however, would be a definite economic boost if money was shelled out properly to the right agencies. I hope that the bible belt, dooms dayers will realize that as long as there is gambling somewhere, gamblers are going to go to it. Why not keep it here?

Maybe if urban sprawl keeps up....Cleveland will be connected to Cincy, we will be one HUGE city and then this argument will be done!

When we did the safety drill at the top for the FD, we were told it would be close to FIVE years! It looks like shit! I guess there is a lot of unstable masonry up there and it will take a while to replace it. That is also the reason for that hideous netting that has been up there.

I would like to see (in Cleveland)W6Th in the warehouse district, E4Th in Gateway district, and Market Street in Ohio city go pedestrian only...if not all the time, at least on weekends. During the Cleveland Grand Prix this past summer, the city closed W6Th for a street festival. The atmosphere was absolutely incredible compared to having it a thru street. There were people all over, vendors in the streets, and being able to have a beer while walking within the area was nice too!!!
  24. I have a friend that was in Annapolis for St Patrick's Day, and he saw a story on the news about the top 5 places in the country to spend that day, and believe it or not, Cleveland was in the top 5! NYC, Boston, Chicago, and Savannah were among some of the others mentioned. I decided to try to find out more on this but could not to any info. Then, to my dismay, I read some info that made "me blood boil" (in an Irish accent!). I read an article out of Pittsburgh stating that their parade was the SECOND LARGEST behind NYC. I find that hard to believe since they claimed to have spectators of up to 200,000, while Cleveland this year had an estimated crowd of 375,000! I also find it hard to believe that cities such as Boston and Chicago would be smaller than Pittsburgh in this department. Cleveland had a huge crowd this year but has genreally had large crowds all along....but not only the size makes it special, the tradition makes it special. It was the 139th anniversary of the parade, which not only makes it the oldest parade in Ohio(by far) but one of the oldest in the country. I guess I am trying to get the ole Pittsburgh/Cleveland rivalry going....again. Any info would be interesting, thanks.
  25. I hate the idea of stealing jobs as well...maybe the company with REALLY explode and create enough jobs for both cities! Wouldn't that be nice!
