Beachwood: New Eaton Headquarters
I hope these well thought ideas have been put into email form and sent to letter to the editor section of the PD. I am sure if we bombard them a FEW of them have to be pronted. Let Eaton know how the public views this move!

Beachwood: New Eaton Headquarters
It was stated earlier that at least the city wouldn't have to provide safety services the the highlands.....wrong...the CFD responds there from time to time...I have never actually made it all the way there on a response, but it seems like we are headed to PA when we get a call there....let them move there...if they get a fire, it will be a pile of cinders by the time we get there!

Firehouses of Middletown & Hamilton Past & Present
When I did my thread on the fire stations of Cleveland, it made me sick to see the stations that were closed only to be replaced with the modern CRAP they have now. There were only three stations that were still open from the 1910 era or earlier, the rest were replaced with garbage. Yes, the modern trucks are larger and taller than what a lot of the old stations could accomodate, but why not renovate them? Cities like Chicago or NYC seemed to have kept the traditional fire houses, but not Cleveland, and from what I can see some of the ones in this thread. Maybe because of the cost, maybe because we have available land unlike some other cities...who knows? All I do know is it is too bad that such history can be replaced with such !

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Lets face it, in MY opinion, now that Tom Brady is out for a bit, Dallas is the best team out there. Yes, the Browns looked like shit but there are a few things to remember. 1) Last years opening game and look how they turned out. 2) A lot of key players were out(like the receiving core, KR, OL, DB) or JUST returned into the lineup w/o much practice. Offense: D.A. wasn't bad, he had some drops which he cannot control Edwards has been out, but still looked like shit drops and mental mistakes in penalties. O loine not too bad, but needs to be healthy and needs to get timing down. D line not bad at all especially Rogers, took double teams all day which SHOULD have opened up opportunities for the linebackers...linebackers...MIA. DB's...ouch IMO the coverage scheme sucked (partly coaches fault) the cover 2 looked more like a cover 0, they aren't talented or fast enough to man up (even with a TE)...THIS will pose the biggest problem. Next week will be a BIG test for the D. I truly believe they can have a good season, but fine tuning and health issues need to be dealt with YESTERDAY!

West Salem, Ohio
LOL...this is a funny post to me because my brother actually lives in West Salem. He is a teacher at Black River local schools so it's close to where he works. I (we) were raised in Northern Medina county in Valley City (outside of Medina)...but we are both very different. I like the city and he hates it. He loves being way out, but everyone is different. I actually like the medina area to this day...no, it ISN'T urban, but is does have some nice things to offer. I guess I am like everyone else and have made fun of other places that I either do not know much about or are not to my liking....but all in all, everyplace is a place to call home for someone! :)

Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
^Then I think they should reinstate prohibition as well in the State of Ohio. I mean seriously, it causes MUCH more trouble than gambling. Alcoholism, drunk driving deaths, family problems, medical problems, violence/abuse...need I go on? If people want to drink, let them drink in other states that have alcohol! We don't need that kind of industry in Ohio, jobs or no jobs that it may create here! I don't need my tax dollars going towards alcohol rehab here in Ohio. Does this sound silly to you? It does to me, just as silly as people telling me how gambling is SO bad...yet we have instant lotto, mega millions, keno, church casino nights, church bingo..which is ALL GAMBLING but still "ok". The poor don't gamble at casinos, it is too expensive. They WILL, however, play the instant games at a local bar or gas station, so which really does prey on the poor? Is gambling "the answer"? No...but will it at least create jobs and have a positive spin off economy to other local establishments? Yes. Casinos have security on and around the immediate premisis, tax revenues hire more city police. I don't buy the increased crime rate thing. I have been to Niagra Falls, I didn't feel afraid for my life. If done properly, there is nothing wrong with casinos...let ME choose if I want to go or not!

The real question is...when are they going to build on top of that place!!!!???!!!

WTAM = EVIL
Typical train of thought...take your paycheck, be happy, and don't have an opinion on how YOU think things should be...only share the opinion of city hall and those who "pay your salary". So first we don't have a say into where we can live and now we can't even have an opinion? I love how some people believe since we are mere public servants we are only here to serve...we must not be family providers, have higher educations, have opinions and beliefs, and have no right to change things...

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I do think that the fare CARDS would be a better idea....that way you can purchase enough for one ride or many rides...at a machine...then just swipe or insert a card at a turnstyle or on the train...at least that would be faster than trying to pay with cash on the train.

Cleveland: Historic Photos
ON pic C28..I don't understand? How did people come downtown because there didn't seem to be enough surface parking lots! ;) Also, in some of those other pics...what were those crazy things that carried people around the city on some sort of rails?....

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
^ I ABSOLUTELY agree with you. I would MUCH rather have a turnstyle payment system and/or have each station have an actual employee there, than to have fancy monitors TV on the buses or trains (isn't that planned?) It is just so Mickey Mouse (to me) to have to wait in line to get on the train and pay. Almost as bad as being asked for my ticket at E 9th when I got OFF the train to see if I had paid. Just suppose I threw it away? This type of system, IMO, makes RTA seem very small time.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
^ I have to agree..EVERYONE I have ever talked to about mass transit in Cleveland ALL have said they wish RAIL reached more areas of the city and inner ring suburbs, especially in higher density residential areas (such as the Clifton corridor from RR to Downtown). Reasons being: Rail doesn't wait in traffic, rarely affected by weather, you always know the destinations and stops, and smoother and more comfortable than bus. I would have to say that the reason that someone may have used the "cattle car" analogy is because RTA seems to only like to use a one or two car tandem for it's trains. Why not three? How much more does it cost per trip to add an extra car out of curiosity? I believe Chicago uses 8 and NYC 11, I realize that would be overkill here in Cleveland, but the other cities mentioned don't change the amount of cars used from peak to non peak hours, so why not run three cars at all times here? On another note, I was on the red line and was riding on the rear car. At the 150th street stop I was unable to exit from the rear car because the operator never opened the doors. When I made it into the forward car, I asked the operator why she didn't open the doors and was quit rudely and abruptly told you have to exit from the forward car...with no explanation why? Not quit sure what an out of towner would do if they were treated the same way. I was lucky because I KNOW the area. Has there ever been talk of automated voice stops similar to that of Chicago? At least then ALL stop would be announced (upcoming and actual). I found being from out of town on the L it was VERY helpful and professional. Just curious.

Assorted Cleveland
About a year or so ago I went to check out the "prison tower" because it was for rent.....MY GOD would living there be either a complete nightmare OR you would be in the BEST shape of your life once your lease expired (if you didn't first!). The bedroom was at the top with about 170 stairs seperating it from the rest of the living space... interesting, but not for me...(can't imagine trying to get to bed after a night at the pubs!)

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I think it is a very bad idea...it seems like more cops will be on the streets...but in effect, there will just be more one man (person) cars on the street. Officers will be more hesitant to approach dangerous situations until backup can get there, which will actually slow response times. I know, many people think that just because you have a badge and a gun, it shouldn't matter if you are alone or with two officers...but it really does in many situations. Also, zone cars will be farther from the people they are protecting during times of shift change, report writing, station stops, etc...which is not good in my opinion. Funny how city council feels MORE (as in council members) is better for representing the people, but as far as PROTECTING the people less is better (as in police districts). As far as dispatch KJP, it has been consolidated for a few years now. (in one room that is) Police have half of the room, EMS and fire the other. In fact, EMS and fire only have a half wall seperating them...but when they try to coordinate it seems almost impossible (locaton off calls, nature of calls, and resources needed for mutual response) I am not saying this to bitch, but rather to open your eyes as to how far behind the times our safety sevices really are in this city compared to many other cities of similar size. Even after 911, it was recommended that any city service that has multiple dispatch systems NOT be housed in one place (Cleveland prior had seperate locations) because a terrorist act could wipe out ALL emergency communications...what did the city do? They put ALL communications in one building, on the same floor, in the same room! Baffles me!

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
The old 3rd district station will remain central dispatch, EMS offices will be moved there, and there will still be offices for CPD located there.
