  1. While I tend to think that Stark's plan seems to make the most sense for office tennants, I think it could still be a go without as much class "A" space, or at least I hope it could. I would love to see either project being built, but I also hate to see one project being srapped for another! I am hoping that Stark can either A) Find other tennants from outside the city to fill his space or B) scale the office space down a little but still go ahead with the retail and residential. I just would hate for him to have the "taking my toys and going home" attitude!
  2. Somebody on this thread sounds a bit fragile when it comes to urban living and transportation! I don't know how my other half (female) was able to survive in Queens all those years of having to actually see, talk, and be confronted with other people on the streets..and then have to take a crowded subway train 40 minutes to work!! I guess I am not sure why someone who isn't interested in urbanism takes interest in this site? This is not a slam at all, but it just seems odd. God forbid if anyone like that ever moved to a really large urban area, they would need zanex to make it through each day!
  3. ^Or NYC...
  4. This is not the only station that is going to be "browned out" in the near future. There are a few others that are being discussed as of now. It IS unfortunate that the city is willing to play games with the safety services, not just the FD, but ALL of them! If anything, the city should be trying to cut a deal with Wolstien to have a new fire house built in his East bank project, and have a fast response rescue boat purchased. Right now, the current fire boat CFD has is basically a tug boat. It is great for pumping water to fire because of the very large capacity pump, but for recue purposes, it is useless because of it's lack of speed AND placement to the mouth of the river. IMO, a new station should eb built closer to the mouth of the river. This would give a better protection area for the new construction, while at the same time giving a rescue boat easy and rapid access to the lake. With all these new mega projects being planned, I don't see why the city couldn't try to hammer out a deal that would help the businesses and residents of these areas.
  5. I have been lurking on this thread for a while...and I must say that I REALLY hope Cincy can get a streetcar system going. It is a shame that Ohio doesn't rely more on a form of rail mass transit in the urban areas. I look at the old pictures of Cleveland and see the streetcar system they HAD only to see those rails all gone now. Our light/heavy rail system is okay, but even that should extend to more parts of the city. It seems however, that BRT and faux trolleys are the way that our transit system in Cleveland seems to be leaning. I really hope Cincy can get the ball rolling for the rest of the state.
  6. I guess now we will have to say..."going down to the PROG to see the tribe"...
  7. My letter to the editor of the PD: It was only a matter of time that yet another baseball park would cave in and take a corporate name, I am surprised Jacob's Field lasted this long. What interests me is, a company that felt it didn't need to bring its business into downtown, but rather set up shop in another typical suburban "business campus", now decides that it can use this great venue for marketing. Maybe if they would have built the Progressive Tower downtown like once planned, the beautiful scenes shown during game time would have included the tower in the skyline, marketing would have been acomplished...and the Jake might still be the Jake
  8. I would think that maybe the reason that the #55 isn't in the top ten busiest is because it is actually more of a pain in some peoples eyes to ride a cramped bus and still wait in traffic. Living along the Clifton corridor I would welcome larger more ..(gulp) trainlike busses that have right of way....especially if the shoreway is turned into a blvd. I think this would spur ridership and take more cars off of the street. There are a lot of downtown workers that live allong the corridor from Rocky River to downtown, personally I like the idea of BRT, but then again, I am sure KJP will have an educated viewpoint that will once again sway me. :)
  9. Just wanted to let people on the board know that there is a Public Safety football team here in Cleveland. We will be playing in the National Public Safety Football League (NPSFL). The team consists of firefighters, police officers, EMT's/medics, corrections officers, and active military personnel from the Cleveland metro area. We will play teams from around the country. This is our first year playing, so we will be pitted against other teams with less experience in the league. It is full pads, full contact football, playing using NCAA rules. As of now, we have five games scheduled, three of which being at home (tentatively Collinwood sports complex). We are the only team in Ohio that is officially in the league, Columbus is still working to get a team ready to play, and the Cincinnati team didn't become a reality yet. It would be nice to see some of your faces there at the home opener on April 5th against Chicago! Check out our website (needs work!) at www.publicsafetyfitness.org or www.NPSFL.com If anyone would be interseted in supporting the team, feel free to contact me for sponser package information. Packages range from "Premier package" to sponsership of a single player.

^^ Actually, today's PD reported 134 homicides in 2007 for Cleveland.
  12. It wasn't just what Ink said....not at all. He DID give some good kudos, but the fact that Cleveland isn't "urban"? I have read that in many posts in the past from many people, whether it be subtle or not. I just don't see how Cleveland isn't "that" urban? Is it because of the "duckbill" housing? I don't know? I am not mad at anyone, nor do I need to "lighten up"...I am just stating what I feel because of many past posts. I realize that Cincy has a very tight core housing/downtown relationship compared to Cleveland. That does give the visual feeling of urbanism, but I was stating that there is more to urbanism than buildings. I think Ink had a great post, I wasn't attacking him personally. I was just stating MY opinion. No harm done here I hope....
  13. Not quite sure what this means? Is it because there are no brownstones right downtown or because the neighborhoods aren't built right on top downtown like Cincy? Cleveland isn't as restricted as let's say Pittsburgh or Cincy because of the hills, but does that mean it isn't as urban? Detroit is laid out similar to Cleveland..maybe Newark, NJ too, are they not urban either? When you were here, did you get to see the neighborhoods reaching from roughly W 200th street to E 200th St? There is plenty or urbanism in Cleveland in my opinion...but again, that is MY opnion and everyone has them. I think urbanism is more than just some brownstones or buildings..it is attitude as well. I have been in some cities that have an urban look to them, but the vibe of the city feels more like small town, and visa versa. This is not meant to be an angry post at all, but sometimes I get the feeling that this site seems to portray Cincinnati as the cock of the walk, and Cleveland as the little brother that is trying to be a city but just didn't quite do it.

Actually, the majority of the members of "Grupo Fuego" are from Cleveland, Ohio...a few from Detroit, a few from Chicago, and one from Cincy

and when you leave..attend a community college for remedial English (sorry..was rude to say, but the tone just set me off)
  17. Jerry, I understand that ridership is low during the late night/last trains out, but don't forget, these trains are stoppong BEFORE bars and such close on the weekends...how can RTA guage the ridership by midnight crowds? If RTA were to promote DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE...RIDE THE TRAIN HOME...OR try a "why park downtown, when you can park and ride the train" campaign and then actually take a trail run at LATE NIGHT trains on the weekends, RTA might be surprised with the results. I know ther have been MANY times I have taken a cab when I would have much rather taken the train, but unfortunately RTA locks the doors BEFORE the bars close....

Speaking as a "breeder"....I found it not a big problem to meet women in Cleveland. I DO however, find that there is a lot more attitude here than in cities such as NYC or Chicago because of lack of competition. My friends and I have found that the "hot" girls are hard to approach (which to me wasn't a big deal because I have/had a "I don't give a shit what you think you are" attitude) and the "average" girls think they are more physically than they really are. Of course this is all based on each individuals personal preferences... It seems there are less women out in certain bars or clubs than I have ran across in the aforementioned cities, which in turn gives the upper hand to the female...which is selection. In places like NYC, I had better luck because I was just "me"..which seems to be a trait that is hard to find (from what I was told) in NYC....guys always bragging about what they do or how much money they make (which for me I can't..being a firefighter, I AIN'T rich!! lol). I guess being lucky enough to have traveled around, I realize that the much adorned Cleveland "jeans with a sweater tied around your waist" look you find here quite often does NOT give you attitude rights!! I am in no way a snob when I go out, but I don't take crap(attitude) either. People need to realize that just because you say hello, doesn't always mean you are trying to be a Rico Suave...maybe you are just being ....holy crap...NICE! :) Okay, enough of MY rant...my advice...go out, be you, and who cares what the snobby ones think!
  22. 3231....off topic for a second..Father Lima, Peru..Mother Leon, Spain...the other half grew up in Queens..( and a little in St. Croix and Vienna) :) feel free to GET BACK ON TOPIC! lol
  23. My other half is Spanish and Peruvian...she speaks "proper" Spanish (according to her) and identifies her heritage as Spanish....SUCH an elitist!!! lol
  24. I hope that the recent rate increase for the taxi service at Hopkins will be a BIG push for RTA to really market the TRAINS(easier phrase than rapid) to downtown throughout the airport for out of town travellers. The announcements have gottne better...but more visible signage or kiosks (which include train destinations) throughout the airport may help ridership even more...just a thought
  25. ^^ I would like that info too...I have the same hair problem!
