Cleveland / Northeast Ohio: "What If/Hypothetical/Dream" Construction and Projects Discussion
I'd love to see a first class aquarium/Great Lakes museum where the stadium sits. If we could pull this off along with retail somewhere within the city, Cleveland could truly be the region's premier tourist destination.

I may very well end up being wrong, but I just don't see the lifestyle elements of this project ever happening. Or they'll be scaled back significantly.

So the mayor of Brookpark is essentially an HSG lobbyist. Wonder if he just doesn't care that he's a useful tool or if he doesn't realize it. Have some pride man.

Haslam's won't be covering any gaps. They'll just scale back the project.

Why would Cleveland do this if they don't believe the revenue projections or want the stadium there? The city doesn't need to save face here.

Our area reps should have tried to work this into the stadium funding amendment. Also, is there a world where the city finds a partner for the lakefront stadium to compete for events with the BP dome?

I think you're right in that letting it play out provides him with more ammunition to kill this, but I just don't think he needs more. I'll call it what it is, this funding plan is being driven entirely by bought and paid for Republicans. My hunch is that the people of Ohio are either against this, don't know about it, or don't care. I think there's very few Ohioans who think this is a good idea.

Man is DeWine frustrating. Just state clearly what you want and what you're going to do. You don't need to sell the people of Ohio on this being a bad deal and you should already have a good sense of whether the legislature has the votes to override a veto.

Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
No details on the ask in the article though. Hoping it's not much of a negotiation.

Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
Care to share details if you're in the know then? The reporting I've seen only states that Murphy still has yet to put the financing package together but that he thinks it should be a public/private partnership. Oh, and that the return on the investment will be huge. I'm not buying it and I hope Cleveland doesn't either. They can play these games at any number of high school fields across the county.

I'm also surprised at some of the support for this. We cannot seriously consider public funds for a stadium to host a division 2 team in a newly formed league. Obviously the ask for public funds hasn't been made yet, but it's implied that it's coming in some form. Use any number of the existing stadiums in the area for this.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
Maybe he'd only turn to Plan B absent state funding and not to fill the gap if the country refuses to participate? Either way, I haven't seen any reporting about various port authorities issuing bonds. Feels like we would have heard something on that front given the county's stance on the matter.

Wouldn't Haslam's plan B comments suggest that this is not the case?

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
During a segment on 92.3 this morning, they noted that there was an amendment offered by a GOP rep that would prevent the state from providing loans for professional sports stadiums. The amendment failed but the vote was extremely close. This potentially suggests that funds approved for the stadium aren't widely popular among state GOP reps and that a veto may not be overturned. I still think a line item veto of the $600M is wishful thinking but if DeWine has the spine, the veto may hold.

This is my fear as well. In fact, I have absolutely zero confidence.

"intention of trying to cement the team's future in NEO" That's interesting wording.

Wants our money and calls us stupid!

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
I still don't see what incentive the county has to play ball. I guarantee they view the donation to the lakefront transformation as an empty promise. The Haslam's have lied to the city and county throughout this process. Also, what in the world does the eastern most dome in the country matter at all? What a stupid point.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
Glad there are some in the statehouse questioning the Haslam's "just trust me bro approach". I just don't see how this project generates the revenue they claim it will and the $38M upfront doesn't seem like nearly enough. I'm dubious of their claims that this stadium will be hosting any of the events they claim it will. There is still a world class arena downtown, two stadiums capable of hosting large events, and multiple domes/stadiums within 2.5 hours of BP. And if they're relying on the entertainment district as big revenue generator, then any delay in getting that off the ground greatly impacts their projections. Overall, it seems like there are too many hurdles to clear and the math doesn't add up. I'm thinking we'll be hearing relocation threats by year's end.

What could the backstop possibly be that doesn't end up hurting BP residents? I feel like it's a near guarantee that the admissions and parking taxes will end up coming up short since we know this venue won't hold nearly as many large events as Jimmy is suggesting. Still hard to believe any elected official is even entertaining this.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Infuriating. I know the Galaxy at Polaris technically qualifies, but it really feels like it doesn't fit the spirit of the program.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Don't think restaurant closures are a uniquely NEO problem. There have also been a lot of openings recently.

Cleveland: Cleveland-Cliffs
We'll see if the board has a spine. I have my doubts he'll face any repercussions since this type of behavior is not only accepted but encouraged and probably viewed as good practice in order to gain the admiration of the incoming administration. Invoking the atomic bombings in a press conference is beyond comprehension. What a pathetic little boy.
-
Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
Agreed. Media isn't even asking basic questions about the cost of needed infrastructure improvements/additions, stadium upkeep, funding sources, pushing for the renovated stadium plans, etc. Pretty pathetic effort in my opinion.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
What is the incentive for Bibb to make the case to Cleveland taxpayers that they should subsidize a stadium outside of the city?
