  1. good luck getting that couch down to that sunken room! PIV-OT!
  2. the median of 275 from the 75 overpass junction east to turkeyfoot road exit used to have the same bushes long ago... been gravel and weeds for over a decade now. i had noticed that the bushes on 471 were starting to get infested with honeysuckle bushes - especially where one of the older non-honeysuckles died and made open space. too bad they didnt maintain the median and help the existing plants by removing the invasives and replanting the existing hedgerow.
  3. is the image taken from the northwest? making that street between buildings A & B Scioto? and building D is on the corner of vine? if so, there may be hope for the corner and we just can not see it from this view.
  4. ^ they are still making unresolved curved sidewalks that dead end into... other curved sidewalks at weird spots or seemingly, right into the side of buildings on this convention center design. and there are inner loop sidewalks that do not connect to outer loop sidewalks. Going to end up with more foot paths there as well. not a fan.
  5. ^and i mean Kentucky... not Italy!
  6. what a bummer. Hoping Western-Southern/Great American eventually builds a signature highrise adjacent to this and then re-designs this into a true urban plaza/park. as of now, we are slowly seeming to add more surface parking, more drive drop-off loops and tearing down surrounding buildings..... aside form the remaining buildings & tunnel portals, this park looks like something you would find in Florence.
  7. rendering & report from the Lexington Herald Leader: https://www.kentucky.com/news/state/kentucky/article279569624.html
  8. there's something almost M C Escher-esque about these stairs...
  9. at one point during the press release of the ascent, i remember reading a quote by either Liebeskind or the Corporex team saying "the blue glass was in homage of the blue suspension bridge..." which is dumb, since the bridge can be painted any color. now we are getting a mini knock-off ugly version paying homage to the blue glass of ascent.
  10. oof. that is one boring building.
  11. ^streetwall refers to a continuous wall of building facades along the street holding the property line along the sidewalk. not art installations, and not actual walls.
  12. i will add that it is often the client, not the architect, who wants to "make a statement" or "give a gesture to the community" or "provide a place for their employees" that also creates these wasted places. preserving, reconnecting the streetwall is always my first goal with an urban project.
  13. ^that sign on the building! Arial font. check. change ART to red.... rendering complete!
  14. i love the street presence... WHERE IS THE FRONT DOOR?!
  15. I mean... i'd take it over the mega-kroger/crossroads/suburban nonsense that is 'center of cincinnati'. that said, its fine up in mason. i just wish there some mega pedestrian bridge that connected it to kings island and that both the tennis and kings island addressed the interstate more than surface parking
  16. ummm... as both a former new york city resident and architect... multiple shiny metal window mullions tapering into one larger will always remind me of world trade center. maybe its just me... but that image was imeadiatly a punch to the gut.
  17. i"ll take one from nashville, one from austin, one from brooklyn...
  18. yes that is gross... a subtle ACCENT of their green would have gone a long way. also... i was walking with my 6 year old son through downtown pre-covid and we passed the coworking place down on fourth. he asked me "what is COW ORKING?" i have never looked at that word the same.
  19. Looks like fun! Quicker than the steps
  20. ^ always like to hear other people complain about the honeysuckle bushes! i have 4 forested acres and have slowly eliminated almost all of it from my (and maybe a bit of my neighbors) property. I agree, the roadsides are bad. i would also like to see cincinnati and nky do a better job of removing it from their parks. then we can move on to bradford pears... mustard weed...
  21. hopefully they still have the mega dog park... cause... WOOF
  22. seems like i've seen a glass storefront zipper reveal going through a parking garage base somewhere...
  23. ^totally agree. i appreciate the thought about the greenspace by vandercar, as compared to pretty much everything else they have done, but this is still very car-oriented. it lacks any formality with the streets - its going to always feel like you are driving through the back of this thing with walls of blank garage doors. there needs to be a hierarchy of streets & greenspace with at least one main drive that sets up the community and helps create a sense of place. Maybe people will really embrace the greenspace as shown, but i think it is more for show/dog breaks than large neighborhood gatherings here is my 10 minute alternate - which actually gains 4 units. it sets up a main esplanade/central drive with all units facing the central green. the entry drive view terminates with more units to bookend the site. Small "gatehouse" buildings helps define the entrance and could be used to store outdoor games and equipment. secondary streets serve more as alleys that provide access to all the garages. the main central green is shared by all and everyone looks out onto to it.
