Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad
Related/unrelated/talking to talk but I've biked a decent amount of the ROW that it'd take into the city and honestly I think it'd be pretty cool perspective for a lot of people. It would help button up the story of the industry spurred by the towpath/canal/river. Also, maybe it'll spur some cleanup of places (talking to you Rosby landfill). For instance here's a sunset right before you come into the heart of the steel plant and whatnot (taken right about here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/wqN4ARa7TtZ7MpeP7): Re: commuter rail it'd be nice to have faster trains/different set running during early morning/evenings that could connect Cle to Akron, but not sure how realistic that is (I know I'm probably repeating stuff that's already been covered upthread).

Kinsman Rd. McD's has the best view of the city!

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
Would love to replicate this across all ODOT medians - I could look it up but - I can't imagine how much they pay private contractors to mow the ROWs in the summer months. Also, the OC bike path is pretty miserable in its current state, I was talking to @Boomerang_Brian about it during slow roll - but I'd think the trees (on the path side at least) are intended to be 1.) natural barrier from cars (which is 30 years off) and 2.) provide some shade to the path (again 30 years off). The path is convenient if you want to bisect a bunch of streets from 105-55, but it's not a fun experience.

Keeping the trees alive doesn't matter when cars are running into them on the regular.

Nope, still going.

Cleveland: Clark–Fulton / Stockyards: Development and News
Not to be a debby downer, but Clark is such a miserable (and dangerous) street (no tree cover, cars flying, etc.) - and it was just redone! Hopefully things like this spur the city to right their wrongs but Clark won't be redone for years and years to come. I'm not buying that street calming wasn't possible without the Complete and Green Streets Ordinance either, but that discussion belongs in a different thread.

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
Usually this type of thing is self inflicted. According to Medical Examiner, victim was 76 no COD yet. Also in parking lot of apartment complex. 53yo.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Just curious, there's about ~5 acres of land prior to the proposed offramp (purple) that's split between Amtrak and NS and the most northern siding within NS property isn't currently used. Would that be anywhere close to enough room if the 18th plans come to fruition? Or is the biggest concern the ramp and associated clearances? The port roads seem like they'd create the biggest issues.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Belongs in random, but just fyi in the past day they've gotten 295 requests, 132 are garbage related, 39 are tree related.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I noticed that there's a temporary Foundry outpost at 72nd St. boat launch when I was over there this past weekend. I figured it was to make up for the construction/closure of the access road to get to the old CG station, glad something more permanent is in the works.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Unfortunately, no. You'll get the ugly unmaintained concrete planters and you'll like it! Crazy thing is we've lost a lane going west (during construction) and whaddyaknow...traffic hasn't changed much, if at all.

Details are still a tad murky but I should hopefully be setting off on a bike tour that day. I'll be at the next one!

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
The city had some of the strictest return to office/limited wfh during COVID and the county was a bit more liberal but pretty similar. CCHQ has been full pretty much since vaccines came out. The county also offers generous subsidies for RTA and recently upgraded the bike area at HQ and it's often full of bikes, so I think it's safe to say that the bureaucrats are walking the walk. That said, the county is currently drafting WFH policies for two days wfh, the rest in the office. I don't think it takes much googling to find that being anti-wfh doesn't work out well for an organization and govt. is no different- especially when salaries are much lower than private sector (even after accounting for benefits).

Sidenote, if anyone would be interested in a bike ride from either location on 9/6-9/7 let me know. I can plan out some routes and we could actually ride this time! lol 9/7 is also WRUW studio-a-rama over at Case.

Cleveland: Downtown: Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Expansion
I feel like they still do concerts here and there (the most recent 'big' draw was Sleater-Kinney), but they definitely are hit and miss these days. When I first moved here in 2016 they were ripping with indie acts for cheap(!) saw Car Seat Headrest for $6, and missed out on similarly priced Lucy Dacus and Lower Dens performances. I know bands like these aren't everyone's cup of tea but it was an awesome little incubator experiment (Lucy and boygenius won a Grammy in 2024). They currently have a local bands series in addition to bringing some national acts through, but not to the extent that it seems like they used to. I guess what I'm getting at is hopefully if/when they bring acts through to the new space they're affordable and somewhat subsidized by the RRHOF - get as many ppl in the doors to experience national acts as possible, LiveNation and AEG be damned.

lol wtf 3/4 of Bibb's hires live in OHC. That's pretty funny passing of the buck.

Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
My point was that sport specific arenas are already a thing. The five-ish years that the Islanders tried to play at Barclays was pretty much a disaster from a hockey standpoint. That said, I miss seeing a car in the stands lol.
-
Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
This already kind of happened with the Brooklyn Nets/NY Islanders and Barclays Center. Venue was designed for basketball with hockey as an afterthought. Fast-forward and the Islanders have a new arena and no longer play in Brooklyn.
