  1. Was going to wait a couple days to upload stuff from yesterday's ride home, but here's another angle from down there, and a bonus one from the Towpath
  2. From last night: And Today:
  3. It's taken them an extra year but it looks like patience really paid off. It looks great and that apartment window is amazing!
  4. I'm definitely interested!
  5. I'm too lazy to search, I swear years ago (maybe pre-covid) there were plans to develop across the street. I recall them requesting demo of the Lincoln Building, or something of the sort... I thought something was planned for the vacant lots across the street too, but I could also be making that up..
  6. If they build a second building does that mean we get to have another thread with 201 pages of speculation and photos? lol
  7. Vacant factory that built Hulett ore unloaders purchased by Cleveland’s new $50M Site Readiness Fund CLEVELAND, Ohio — An immense vacant factory in Cleveland’s Central neighborhood, where massive Hulett ore unloading cranes were made more than a century ago, will have a new shot at economic life as the first major acquisition of the city’s $50 million Site Readiness for Good Jobs Fund. The city announced Monday that the site readiness fund closed on an $845,000 deal to acquire the triangular, 10-acre property at 7000 Central Ave. on Cleveland’s East Side that includes the 183,000-square-foot Wellman-Seaver-Morgan factory. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2024/04/vacant-factory-that-built-hulett-ore-unloaders-purchased-by-clevelands-new-50m-site-readiness-fund.html ---- Can't believe the city paid essentially squatter investors for the building (I get it, capitalism!) but man, this building has been falling apart, wide open, and getting worse every time I've gone by. I guess if you want progress you've got to play with these folks - looking at transfers Cristie Lites LLC bought it in 2017 for ~$738k so not like they made a huge profit, but still. More info on the building: https://architecturalafterlife.com/2021/11/mcdowell-wellman-seaver/
  8. Great read and nice rendering @Geowizical!
  9. US Bank Plaza is actually pretty busy throughout summer months - DCA - now DC has music out there on weekdays, pop up music during the evening and when there isn't something going on lunch time sees a lot of folks eating at the tables and benches. Add to that random PHQ traffic and it's pretty hopping. I think a closed street would help out businesses like Zaytoon that are cramped inside but could take up more real estate outside. Perk Park also has their food truck days and I think DC also set up some music there if I'm not mistaken ( @urbanetics_ can probably be more helpful with this) a big part of it being underutilized is the fact it's kind of awkwardly laid out, the seating is kind of strange and tables are few and far between. If Ohio Savings converts to apartments I feel like that area will be a tad more lively (wishful thinking since there's already a bunch of apts around there).
  10. Whoa, as a transplant I never realized Stan B. has been around Crains/Cleveland this (that?) long!
  11. Brutalism doesn't get much respect in here but I think it's great as is. It's a unique piece of the skyline and a great example in its current form. Downside of brutalism is the cost of upkeep; I know the building has a ton of issues as is (in addition to the asbestos).
  12. The Bibb administration has actually had pretty smooth sailing through council with the transformational projects they've proposed most recently the Shore to Core to Shore TIF legislation.
  13. A lot of these events are using rooms in the convention center/stadium, upthread there's a breakdown of all the spaces that are included as part of the stadium, a lot are glorified conference rooms. The browns also host events in the rooms in the stadium throughout the year. I don't think the Avon High School Class of 20xx is using the playing field/domed portion. If you go to Lucas Oil Stadium events site here's what's listed: George Strait, Chris Stapleton, Little Big Town (May) US Olympic Team Trials (June) P!NK (October) Taylor (November) Big Ten Championship (December) NCAA Midwest Regionals (March '25) 2026/2029 NCAA Final Four
  14. The Hound er something, hopefully they keep the sign as close to the original as possible...it's a really cool piece of the building.
  15. Respectfully, people voicing discontent w two different colored seats and a bit of a change are not on the same level as ohc block clubs blocking every project. It's not like a letter campaign was launched against the seats or people protested to the gateway board over them.
  16. You inspired some exploring - they're redoing where the floors collapsed in here but phew this garage is a mess lol Looking up:
  17. Check out RTA's new tv studio (lol) PS there must've been some VIP's on this HL or something to merit the police escort yesterday...
  18. Nice to see a forum-er quoted in the WSJ!
  19. See my note about (some marquee!) events, none of those are on the level of a Super Bowl. But anywho, back to the stadium, where do we suppose funding is going to come from if built in the city? Sin Taxes are plummeting, the county had to pass a tax increase to fund the jail (and courts tower), and Cleveland isn't exactly floating in a surplus. You can't squeeze blood out of a turnip, but the Haslam's certainly will try.
  20. Cleveland isn't getting a Super Bowl, dome or no dome. Look at how far away some delegations were during the RNC as an example of how few hotel rooms we have, oh, and February in Cleveland. Recent cold climate SB's (MIN and NYC) had a lukewarm reception by attendees. The cost of hosting a SB is insanely expensive on host cities, too. Would you rather: Cle Sports Commission/Destination Cle aim for reasonable (and some marquee!) events or put all their eggs into one single basket.
  21. It looks like a subdevelopment from above, and they'd be at an even higher shot than this...
  22. They'll figure a way around it - something similar happened in Pittsburgh when they were building their stadiums - voters rejected raising taxes for the stadiums but the powers that be still found public monies to build their stadiums. These franchise owners have a stranglehold on us and the owners know it.
