  1. I watched the regular meeting and Simon seems to be pushing back hard against Chris making an "Executive Decision" on the site, she went out of her way to get a soundbite at the end of the meeting. Seems like council really wants it in Cleveland, even if it means spending extra money cleaning up a toxic site. On one hand council is balking at a purchase price of ~$40M for a greenfield site, yet aren't balking at environmental remediation and the image they'll have building it on a toxic site (Eddy Rd/Kirby and/or Transport Rd.). No wonder they need to hire a PR firm for council. The more they drag their feet the more the price goes up - started at $550M, then $750M and now it's up to around $800M lol
  2. Lakewood Dem Club has a sign pickup 7/8 11a-1p at Madison Park. Suggested donation $5.
  3. I'm with ya on this. FWIW (and NEO specific) but Cleveland Heights dems are selling Vote No signs for $5. I haven't gotten mine yet but worth reaching out to them to see what local sources you might have.
  4. A large problem in this city is every politician yells and is aiming to get their soundbites and potshots out there instead of working collaboratively towards the greater good of the city. Every councilperson is at war with other wards and aren't moving the city forward. I'll just say that Polensek is one of the loudest voices, take it as you will.
  5. It'd be cool if parking lot owners had some liability in all of this. Yes parking prices would go up but also they wouldn't be able to hide behind a disclaimer and would have to actually provide something other than physical space that they're making tons of money off of. I hate all of our lots around town with NOT RESPONSIBLE plastered on their signs when they're charging anywhere from $8-$80+(on the rare major events). If you want to leech off of the city and squat on valuable lots, you should have to provide something back to society. I know I'm liberal pie in the sky dreaming but I will never feel bad for parking lot owners.
  6. I could probably google but I wonder if they get a private car allowance lol that'd be realllllllllllll rich.
  7. Here's the writeup from The Land (I'm quoted! Same for @mermaidlindsaylol), and a link to the plan. Courtyard, food hall, infrastructure upgrades for West Side Market presented in ‘master plan’ on Thursday "On Thursday, leaders shared details about big changes planned for the West Side Market under its “master plan,” the latest in a series of moves to revamp the 111-year-old institution and reposition it for its next century. The new nonprofit Cleveland Public Market Corporation, established in February, presented a $40 million+ plan which might be described as “everything plus the kitchen sink,” including rebuilding the market’s basement spaces; creating a courtyard between the produce arcade and main building with seating for customers; and building a new prepared food hall with space for 12 new vendors. The details shared at Thursday’s meeting build on the recommendations of the Phase 1 report released by the city in February." https://thelandcle.org/stories/courtyard-food-hall-infrastructure-upgrades-for-west-side-market-presented-in-master-plan-on-thursday/ The Plan: https://mayor.clevelandohio.gov/sites/clevelandmayor/files/WSM Phase 1 Report.pdf
  8. Thanks for the clarification, I was going off the Project Funding portion of the project site: The funding for the projects will be supported by the new lease agreement which extends the current lease to 2036 (with potential options to extent to 2046) and was agreed upon between the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, State of Ohio, the Gateway Economic Development Corporation and the Cleveland Guardians. The estimated total of the projects will be $202.5 million with $67.5 million coming from the Cleveland Guardians. The Guardians are also responsible to provide additional funds to cover cost overages, if any, that may result from the projects.
  9. At least they're keeping it current and adjusting to the fanbase. The Atlantic had an article (and podcast) about how Gen Z is not too fond of slow sports eg. baseball, and if this gets people in the gates then so be it. Attendance has been up with the recent changes. Also, friendly reminder that you can bring food into the ballpark. That said, $135M of this project is coming from public funds for the lease to only extend to 2035. Someone at the WSM talk yesterday made a great point about our values and how we give money to these franchises meanwhile the market needs $30M to just keep an old building standing. Maybe one day we'll realign our values, but until then woo! baseball lol
  10. ...what are they tearing down??
  11. Dan Gilbert’s Bedrock buys Sherwin-Williams’ current HQ "Bedrock’s purchase includes the Landmark Office Towers at 101 West Prospect Avenue, which has 1.2 million square-feet of office space, and the Breen Technology Center, Sherwin-Williams’ current research & development center at 601 Canal Road...The former Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Building at 829 Canal Road was also purchased." https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/06/dan-gilberts-bedrock-buys-sherwin-williams-current-hq.html
  12. They do have big plans for the basement, but at the same time kinda crazy that just stabilizing the building and market comes with a $30M pricetag. Deferred maintenance by the city really paid off.
  13. ^ this.
  14. ^ This one is super cool...I'll try and get up there when there are actual blue skies. Maybe in a couple weeks to get some more progress.
  15. lol makes ya wonder how many UO folks were there... Sorry about the slide quality - for some reason their screen didn't agree with my camera. First Floor Plan Basement Plan: And parts from the slideshow: Transition of Market Non-profit
  16. Go for it, maybe photoshop some non-smoky sky into it too lol
  17. Speaking of, I walked over to tower city today after work and Bedrock is doing some really nice streetscaping on Huron. Trees in deep planters, nice benches, etc etc real real nice.
  18. These caught my attention walking back from the library today (on the side of Fifth Third/E 6th):
  19. From the library: Also sidenote RE:Sherwin (cat from the shack): SHW reached out and are sending a care package, we'll see what it contains maybe some insider information I can post on here? lol
  20. RTA board to consider giving CEO $56K raise as part of contract extension https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/06/rta-board-to-consider-giving-ceo-56k-raise-as-part-of-contract-extension.html Thoughts?
  21. Just like they were slighted by the Redline Greenway lol. Instead of embracing a huge potential project they quipped about losing a couple parking spaces.
  22. Also, everyone meet Sherwin - was walking past the shack and whaddya know a kitten was balled up next to the construction fence. Hashtag who rescued who lol
