  1. Looking forward to it! My bike got some new squeaks to it on the ride in today so looking forward to annoying folks with that. For those biking - I'm thinking about the second route because it'll give some good perspective on Irishtown Bend (and before making any promises, I'm going to check before forest city to make sure that the road is still accessible hah).
  2. It's pretty noticeable when heading north on W. 25/Pearl from pretty far out. I'll try and get a photo one of these days.
  3. hmmm apparently I never posted my ride writeup, here ya go: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/1e8c9772dd204bcfb220edccf6f0d4d8
  4. Bike Cle is piloting a program to request crash information and video footage after bike/ped crashes w/the help of some tech folks. I've seen the form and information and once it gets built out with more data it's going to be a super helpful map/database.

It's addictive! You've been warned. I ebb and flow with my use of it, currently sitting at like 68% of the city - I used to do a lot of my rides without any particular route in mind - zig zagging all over so a lot of my work is now cleaning up and closing out neighborhoods. I've pretty much gotten Old Brooklyn, Brooklyn Center, Tremont, Slavic Village, St. Clair Superior, Midtown, Hough and have chipped away at Glenville. Also a sidenote, they use OpenStreetMap for their roads and I've been going in and correcting road segments as I see them wrong (marked as public when private *cough cough* Brantenahl, bike access allowed, etc.) on my rides.
  6. Graduated from undergrad in 2012, my mom didn't have good enough credit for a loan so my brother cosigned, they were with Wells Fargo, Sallie Mae, Great Lakes, etc. even doing a quick google search takes me back to my loan searching days. The "best" companies have loan rates ranging from 4.5-16%: https://lendedu.com/blog/private-student-loans/, that's insane!
  7. I appreciate the bankruptcy clarification. As far as runaway rates, I was referencing private student loans (I had a few that were 10-12%), I was fortunate to be able to get rid of them, but it's the reality of a LOT of students from low to middle class families.
  8. Use all the anecdotes you want but don't try and frame it like a massive systemic issue without some facts to back it up. Millions of people have student loans and pay them diligently but since you and BB saw two people do something malicious it's apparently massive systemic issue. To which I say who cares? You can't discharge it so whatever way they accumulated the debt they'll be paying it back. If the feds discharge 10k I'm sure those people have another 10k+ in loans at 8-15% interest that they're on the hook for.
  9. There are quite a few photos on the google maps page for this, also their website is surprisingly decent (https://www.clevelandindustrial.com/ci/photos/). A couple from the site:
  10. Personal anecdotes don't equal a phenomenon- also, they still had to pay back student loans, no? Oh yeah, and they aren't able to be discharged in bankruptcy so don't worry, the banks still get their money. Meanwhile we can bail out a corporate bank and the execs get golden parachutes - or a company goes bankrupt and the execs get to raid the ruins without consequence (Kodak is a famous case) while thousands are out of work. If y'all are so angry about $14K/per student in lost payments/interest at least apply your anger across the board and not at students who are being framed as modern "welfare kings/queens". More on anecdotal evidence from wiki: "Similarly, psychologists have found that due to cognitive bias people are more likely to remember notable or unusual examples rather than typical examples.[4] Thus, even when accurate, anecdotal evidence is not necessarily representative of a typical experience..Misuse of anecdotal evidence in the form of argument from anecdote is an informal fallacy[6] and is sometimes referred to as the "person who" fallacy ("I know a person who..."; "I know of a case where..." etc.) which places undue weight on experiences of close peers which may not be typical."
  11. The average ppp loan was $107K, why aren't we talking about this more? I saw your personal anecdote above and it's pretty obvious how you feel about tuition and young borrowers but there's truth in the fact that these loan forbearances have helped people get on their feet and save money vs paying anywhere from $200-1000 in student loan payments (at 5-10%+ interest) every month in perpetuity. When rent starts at $1k and you're only making $40k, good luck "contributing to the economy" when you can barely survive. Here's my personal anecdote: nearly everyone I know who had their parents pay the full amount of their tuition have had it pretty easy, they could rent where they wanted, take sojourns, and not feel the pressure to get a job at x salary because they didn't have to worry about loans or have any financial burden. 10+ years out of college I finally feel comfortable to do "adult" things. Sure, colleges need to reign in their spending (and private schools are facing the music on this, my college included), but your stories about people galivanting thanks to their student loans is making it sound like all students are like this when its far from reality.
  12. PPP was a $953 BILLION program, why don't we dig into that and how it benefitted an exponentially lower amount of Americans vs student loan forgiveness or interest rate freeze. Loans that weren't completely forgiven have a 1% interest rate. Going by your math, instead of giving to the trickle down class, each American could've gotten $2,900 "to spend how they wanted".
  13. So nothing is official - County Council would have to vote on this and it hasn't even been brought forward. Chris R. made it sound a lot more complete than it actually is. If folks don't want it torn down you'll have to make a stink with county council.
  14. Bike ride down Euclid yesterday And a few from today:
  15. Think of how much money Cleveland could save on road maintenance if we rightsized our roads and eliminated lanes/converted them to bike only lanes (minimal wear vs cars, think about it when was the towpath last paved?) in the eliminated lanes. Midway is an expensive start down that path, I guess.
  16. @Blimp City @Growth Mindset @infrafreak @ragarcia @skorasaurus @Boomerang_Brian A few routes: Route 1 (5.3 miles, not much elevation) - Goes across L-C bridge into downtown past City Club, Baker Building, SHW, across Detroit-Superior then touch on Hingetown, Franklin Circle, and Intro. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43018213 Route 2 (7.5 miles, tiny climb out of the flats) - Redline Greenway, Irishtown Bend, Thunderbird, up into town, SHW, City Club, Playhouse Square, Waterford Bluffs https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43018776 Route 3 (5.1 miles, not much elevation) - Intro, W25 (top of Irishtown Bend), D-S Bridge, SHW, City Club, L-C Bridge, Waterford Bluffs https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43018863 These are all pretty basic but would go past quite a few things going on. Let me know what y'all think/what you'd like to see or do.
  17. I'll be cruising this way tonight, I'll try and snag some pics.
  18. Today's view from the ballpark
  19. It's......................................something
  20. Better on Memphis than what they were shooting for on State/Pearl. Also there was a worry that DG was going to move into the old Rite Aid spot, so not a full on win, but eh, there are much worse places.
  21. Clevescene has a bunch of photos of the interior: https://www.clevescene.com/cleveland/photos-a-tour-of-the-near-vacant-union-trust-building-before-renovation-starts-this-fall/Slideshow/42034809/42034831 Here's a few:
  22. I gave a good look towards downtown when biking across Lorain Carnegie Bridge today and CC really fills a gap. If anyone has a good camera and some freetime on their hands, I'd recommend grabbing a pic from that angle (I don't think my cellphone would do its presence justice).
  23. You just described NEO lol
