One one hand Blaine G. and company say it's insane to invest substantial dollars at WSM and the building needs to turn a profit and on this hand the city and county subsidize the crap out of a private franchise and Blaine is out here saying we need to spend a ton more money on retrofitting the stadium. Politicians man.

The biggest complaint from suburbanites is that there's no parking (even though the lot is barely full, ever). They thought it was the end of the world when parking fees were instituted (even w/first 90 mins free), so I'm not sure how much benefit charging for an hour and a half would provide (# of cars vs added revenues). It'd be a nice alternative if you could validate parking or something based on $$ spent in OHC/the market. All this said, I'd be curious about the demographics/who shops at the market and if it's even worth it to placate to suburbanites as much as we do.

Speculative at best though...lots of site testing before it'd even be considered. But makes sense, kind of.

Blaine was on the radio the other day talking about the stadium - "if it stays there we have to retrofit it so we can use it year round..." like what?? You put up this huge stink about WSM and on the other hand say something like that. Get a load of this guy! lol I'm glad he has solutions for everything and isn't just a talking head...oh, wait. Don't worry though, I'm sure he'll have his face alllll over the Slavic Village redevelopment plans. General Take: Our council has been terrible with the allocation of half a billion dollars in ARPA funds. Where was this outrage when the police got their chunk of the ARPA pie?

Major credit to our local tradespeople - when they get rolling they get rolling. Amazing how fast this (and other buildings around town) have been rising. Looking forward to family visiting and them being able to gawk at a skyscraper rising.

WHOA. They put a ton of money into that space in the Arcades. I wonder if any of it has to do with the tenant flux/CBRE in there.

I was riding around an area with them yesterday - it definitely made a difference on some of the straightaway streets. I don't understand why speedbumps aren't permanent at this point - Detroit has them alllllll over (and Pittsburgh, and Buffalo!) - using snow as an excuse is a copout.

Nearly a year later responding, but Union and Harvard have nice bike lanes - not seeing any gentrification over there. People who say that crap usually have zero experience cycling around the non-hot areas of the city. Ok yeah, but WHERE WILL PEOPLE PARK?? lol not to rehash that all over again, but man the pushback to losing parking for an office tower was something...

I appreciate that they didn't honor any sidewalk easement but manage to park their work trucks within the fenced area. Sure, makes sense.

Another 11% worked completely remotely and 26% commuted to the office 100% of the time." It's funny, my office is back 100% and has been. Despite that, folks who are IN the building still video conference in and most conversation with my immediate team takes place over slack - so much for the "connections" argument.

As long as they don't demo *too much* I'm all for it. Looking over the few buildings slated for demo mentioned in the article it's not that bad - are the buildings in white in that presentation slated for demo too? Part of the cool factor and potential for Slavic Village are their old buildings in the 'downtown' section (even if they're currently abandoned). Also, if the area is going to be successful Broadway needs some major work to slow cars down.

Erie recently tore their (old) greyhound station down, it had been converted to a bar for years but now it's an open lot with plans for an arcade - we'll see if that happens. Cleveland can't afford to lose our example of Art Moderne architecture. Erie's former Greyhound station.

I've stopped over for lunch 2x now and they've lost both games - I should stop doing that.

I've been trying to find new spots to eat lunch around downtown and it's kind of shocking how few tables there are throughout the downtown core. Spots you'd assume have them, don't. The ones I can think of quickly/off the top of my head: -Perk Park -Public Square (seasonal) -Reading Garden at CPL (weather dependent) -PNC Building behind the building/not quite courtyard -US Bank Plaza/Playhouse Square (seasonal) -CSU if you know where to look Buildings are hit and miss - the Arcade brought theirs back recently, 200 PS only has their seating on the first floor/got rid of tables on second floor, Justice Center has like two tables in their lobby, Fifth St. Arcades have remained the same...and I'm rambling. Any I'm missing? Being dramatic? I'm sure a lot of it has to do with "vagrants", but sure seems like we lost a lot of these types of spaces during COVID.

Over 50% of state voters turn out for local/state election years. If this 60% threshold gets on the ballot get ready to see that more than 1% of the state gives a crap.
