Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
I had a ticket to the Detroit show and something came up, so I'm feeling the same way haha. I really hope they don't get away with tearing down the next door building, though.

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway District: Development and News
Not development related, but does anyone know why the stadium lights have been on (what seems like) 24/7 the past few weeks? They've been working through replacing seats in the upper deck (the sections they're working are covered) which makes me think it's part of that, but who knows.

I have no idea how you can look at the videos of the car absolutely BLASTING into the building and be skeptical of them reopening in six months. It wasn't just a car through the window, it was a car into critical building infrastructure with a fireball for added effect. It'd be one thing if it was an old lady driving into a dennys, but this is a little different. https://fox8.com/news/watch-new-surveillance-video-shows-car-crashing-into-ohio-city-restaurant/

lol totally forgot about the 9 and it's literally right next to my building. Either way, I feel like they're two distinct styles of brutalism - Rhodes/JC having the brutalist platform, the 9 just kind of fitting into existing fabric. In my opinion, Rhodes looks cool in its current form, I don't want it to be another generic glass cladded structure. I doubt critics in the future will be as outraged w/this cladding vs the Schofield, but it seems worth preserving.

Gonna respectfully disagree on that one, I know there's weatherproofing and sealing that would come with a cladding but it's a unique brutalist building, if/when the justice center comes down this'll be *one of* our only massive example left.

Cleveland City Council
Why?

Cleveland City Council
Monday's council meeting had some great commenters, this person in particular pointed out that former members have been indicted and found guilty, asking Blaine if those people were "team players" (alluding to BG's comments at the previous meeting towards Councilwoman Maurer): I wrote to the redistricting email (consultants) and CC'd my councilwoman (RM) and the council president. I just got the response from BG that "The maps are still being developed". As a GIS Professional I have no idea what's taking a well paid consultant so long to "develop" these maps. There are tools to make this process fast, efficient and equitable.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
They're right: I get stabbed every time I walk outside in the city. I got shot 13 times just now on lunch break and I was robbed at least 3 times walking to my bus after the snow game last week. If all your friends do is watch local news I wouldn't blame them for this outlook - they make money reporting off terrible news.

NEORSD tunnel project. Guessing it'll be returned to normal after.- Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
Not the forum for it, but Diadun is a hack. Him being in support of the dome project is yet one more thing he's on the wrong side of.- Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
I could be totally making this up but didn't the current stadium have psls until recently?- Cleveland: Random Development and News
A private business that would limit access is probably the worst use of it, though. I'll go over for lunch and the amount of people taking it in is impressive, who knows maybe they even buy something while gawking. I wonder if they'll put wine and beer into the old coffee shop on the first floor.- Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
You're not wrong...my experience in Buffalo is the same though re:weather. They don't drop to the $10 mark, but if it's crap weather there's a good chance you can get in for a lot cheaper than a nice day.- Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
It was like being in a snowglobe last night, I know the discussion is going on in the other stadium thread, but you can't beat a weather game. That said, ticket prices cratered because of the weather, I'm sure Jimmy isn't a fan of that. $35- Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Not the greatest photos, but from the game last night- Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Gilbert’s investments, like Higbee’s, May Company, and the FieldHouse, have undeniably improved Cleveland’s landscape. That said, it’s worth noting that the RMFH renovation relied heavily on taxpayer subsidies to reach its current level. It also raises questions about why additional fixes are needed so soon after the initial work—perhaps those could have been addressed during the original planning. When comparing Cleveland to Buffalo or Columbus, it’s important to consider that those cities don’t have NBA teams, which come with significantly higher franchise values and salary caps compared to NHL teams. Even mid-tier NBA franchises, like the Cavs, outpace the NHL’s top teams in value. It's nice to have new and fancy, but Gateway has zero money and the county and city are shuffling money around to keep our arena functioning. The biggest hang-up came from the Greater Cleveland Congregations and city residents at large who were demanding more community benefits from the billionaire owner. It worked. --- But this is the riverfront thread, $40M in state money would be huge, the city granting the TIF also benefits him and the project. Hopefully both move the project forward.- Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Even so, I don't want to give him all the credit for that project. It would've never happened without a massive amount of public support (and now an additional $24M in public subsidies).- Cleveland: Downtown: Rockefeller Building Rehab-Additions
As someone who pokes around places you probably shouldn't be, I can't imagine having the gall of going into a downtown building during a work day and then acting like nobody can see you out in the open like that. Dang kids.- Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Semantics, but this was funded by taxpayers (not the full amount but $70M out of $185M, Gateway contribution is now $94M after their recent work).- Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
I keep watching tickets fall and am tempted to go myself-there's a bunch hovering in the low $30's even after fees. All that said, while you're wandering around beforehand see what counties the license plates are from, I'd venture to bet most people don't even live in CuyCo and they'll probably be the largest pro-BP contingent. These are the same people that "moved to x county because Cuyahoga County taxes are too high" while also saying "wtf why doesn't the city/county just pick up the cost and move on?"- Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
ha! I saw this bus while walking into work last Friday... https://clevelandmagazine.com/entertainment/theater-dance/articles/playhouse-squares-plans-for-greyhound-station-take-shape-with-one-historic-bus- Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
I stand corrected. Buffalo media has made it out to be a big deal, probably has more to do with the current state of material and labor costs, though. It looks like overruns have been covered by Vikings and Seahawks ownership too, but their estimates were probably a lot less in flux.- Cleveland: Random Development and News
After getting rid of the streetcar tracks on each side, they briefly allowed cars below. Unfortunately the wells (where streetcars would come out) have been filled in and utilities have taken up that space. Sidenote, with security, there's some major telecom/electricity infrastructure underneath the bridge. https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/e4fb0afa7f6547e8b014475c72623c81#ref-n-x8DY1X - Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway District: Development and News
