I work in local gov and I can tell you point blank that a good leader can have a huge effect on civil service employees. A competent CEO (mayor, exec, etc.), Chief of Staff, and Cabinet can really push 'protected' employees to be better civil servants. Indifference at the top breeds indifference at the bottom (just look at various NEO govt for proof - good and bad). It isn't impossible to get rid of bad employees- with a good leader comes good oversight - warning, PIP, and then proceed with the steps you need to take (it's not easy but it's possible). It takes 5-7 years to set a culture regardless of public or private, so it's possible to turn a ship around, it's just a slog. I'd argue that nobody running for mayor (unless they've been a CEO or hiring manager of some sort) has any experience or credibility in hiring "the right leaders". Council might have some oversight of hires, but it's not like they're the ones picking folks in the mayor's cabinet.

Totally functional body of government, nothing to see here. This is quite the incoherent email from Mike Polensek.

More insight into the Sweeney endorsement. https://therealdealpress.com/2.0/index.php/politics/793-justin-bibb-s-endorsement-by-marty-sweeney-more-significant-than-it-looks
  8. Never tried a video, let's see how this goes.
  9. I got a few, nothing as crazy as some previous rides, let me get them uploaded and I'll post. The only section that isn't paved yet is what goes under the RR tracks on the eastern end of the OC. Otherwise, it's all got the base layer down and stoplights and signage (not street signs though) up. Didn't see any cameras yet! ☠️ Haha
  10. Signs are up on the OC.

This'll be pretty great, I had spoken with some folks from Cleveland Planning complaining about lack of safe infra on W25 when it comes to biking, hoping that this helps calm traffic a bit. The street is 25 and designed for 55 as is, hope the FHA is good with eliminating lanes and the speedway aspect of W25/Pearl

Was going to say something very similar. I don't understand why council would give such extreme pushback to ideas that our peer cities have instituted 10-20 years ago, other than to hold constituents hostage. Is it too much to ask to move our city services into the 20th century? Maybe even move into the 21st if we're really lucky.

Wow. I didn't realize asking for proof of your claims thoughout these past few pages is akin to cultism for Bibb. You've literally spouted off about how Bibb makes promises with no ability to pay for them (Kelley does the same), you claim Bibb has no experience as folks chime in about Kelley's lackluster experience, and then in your most recent post you say that "time will tell" when people start asking for proof of your claims. This isn't about you, I have better things to worry about, this is a discussion about the mayoral candidates. In discussions and arguments people are expected to push forth facts to back their claims. Youve been challenged countless times to backup all of your claims about Bibb and Kelley and every time you somehow consider being questioned an attack. The icing on the cake is saying Bibb supporters are so cultist that they'd storm city hall, like wtf dude. We're asking you to back up your "factual" opinions and X has literally asked you to do so or shut up, and you keep going and going and there's absolutely no substance just empty conspiratorial claims.

This goes counter to ALL of the stuff you've said against Bibb and FOR Kelley.

Stopped reading here, answer my question. If you're going to go after Bibb for broad statements, go after Kelley in the same way. Again, Kelley makes more promises and still has no way to pay for it. How does your logic check out? Cautious or not, there's no means of paying for it anywhere on KK's website. (Nor is it on Bibb's).

I've combed Kevin Kelley's site and he isn't saying "and this will be funded by..." either. Worth noting: in his Public Safety section Kelley makes even more promises than Bibb. Please apply equal scrutiny to Kelley if you really want to be taken seriously.

Who Wants to Lead America’s Poorest Big City Out of a Pandemic? Justin Bibb and Kevin Kelley are vying to become the next mayor of Cleveland, a tough job with a sweetener of $511 million from the American Rescue Plan. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-10-13/cleveland-mayor-race-justin-bibb-kevin-kelley-vie-to-lead-poorest-city

I'm 32 and have lived in the city for ~6 years. In that time I've become one of the biggest cheerleaders for this place, have gotten involved, etc. etc., but it's a very tough sell when our leaders are indifferent and can't see our peer cities running laps around us. Try selling Pittsburgh or Cleveland to someone for a weekend getaway and they'll most likely end up in Pittsburgh. I just flew back from Baltimore last week and needed a charge for my cell when I got to CLE/after grabbing my bag and the only outlet I was able to snag was for the luggage carts (yes, I unplugged the cart machine to charge my phone). I bike (when I don't have a broken collar bone) everywhere around the city and our bike lanes and connectivity are literally the laughingstock of the nation (I'll dig up the article if you want proof). Our recycling program has been shut down for years and we only found out about it because of a cleveland dot com article. We're the least connected city in the nation and until COVID hit, nobody seemed to care. CPP outages happen all the time in Kevin's ward (I'm right on the border in Anthony B's), and crickets. Lack of vision or lack of giving an eff about our reputation and going it alone out of spite is what is wrong with this city. Outlets at the airport is kind of a bizarre example, but it also reflects upon the city leadership who put the airport commissioners in their positions, we don't need a billion dollar makeover to do simple aesthetic improvements/outlets aren't a luxury in 2021. There are no consequences to having lackluster things here ("it is what it is") and I want that to change. I want to be proud of where I live and have a leader who's happy to cheerlead and drum up support from the amazing people of this city and beyond. Kevin Kelley hasn't shown the ability to do this or a desire to do anything but continue his tenure on council, albeit in a much more powerful role. You earn a vote, you don't deserve a vote because of your past.
