Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Not trying to make this a bills stadium thread, but none of this was out of the goodness of Terry's heart. He got a SWEETHEART deal from the state and the state had a good contract writer. It's not often that the cost overruns get covered by the ownership group. I posted way upthread (and not defending psl's) but those numbers are for the fanciest of seats. The sideline seats are now converted to fancy club seats, and that 15k+ number is for the premium club seats (Jim Kelly club-esque). As far as I know they haven't been selling regular joe seats, yet. Also, I'm a bills fan and to say it's a full on revolt is VERY extreme, some people are walking away, others are paying the fees and treating it like an investment. If anything, it gets rid of the people that own 4-5 sets of tickets throughout the stadium, the alternative is brokers buying the PSL's which isn't great, but too many people treat the bills success as a business now. Finally, the new bills stadium is owned by the state which is HUGE when it comes to future negotiations and maintenance. Ralph Wilson Stadium is currently owned by Erie County, which has been detrimental in the past- if Jimmy doesn't own it outright, I sure hope that Ohio would be willing to make a similar deal (they won't, but I can dream).

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway District: Development and News
Probably belongs in streetscapes thread, but they've blocked the sidewalk without any pedestrian alternatives (and I'd assume it's a long term thing). It's a shame more developers aren't privy to the newish legislation about maintaining pedestrian access, then again it's like a one time $100 fine.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
I was typing quick, so my apologies but my point was that this specific site hasn't had a neighborhood on it since ~2006 prior to the city using eminent domain to demolish the few roads that were back in there. In my opinion it's serving as a county bailout for that failed plan. The way that they're designing the jail, I think most people using the businesses on Transportation will have very little clue of what's in that building and as far as residential goes, it's .25 miles as the crow flies from any houses, and they're separated by two 5 lane roads in each direction. Neighborhood in 2006, prior to demolition (there's some good reading on archived UO threads..): All that said, I'm with you on the views, it's a shame that nothing else could go in there. Here's some photos from last year. (They're planning on repurposing this Aldi into a sheriff training center)

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
They're already in the hole on the Garfield site. They've purchased the land and are in the middle of designing the campus out there. Council publicly laments how much delays have added to the project. Also, they want the new jail to be as close to 1-2 stories as possible (height is creeping up a bit at Garfield) and more of a campus setting that wouldn't be able to be achieved at this site. Yep, Transport, my mistake. Also there's no neighborhood in Garfield- it was eminent domained 15 years ago, looking back on the history of the site and the city's financial troubles the mayor and residents are welcoming it with open arms. There was talks of the SV site being either the jail or a landswap for the container yard (the latter use was later deemed acceptable by the councilwoman). The neighborhood is still downwind of 77 and the steel plant, but I can't blame them for pushing back, also the ingress/egress points would most likely have to go through the neighborhood in one way or another. For comparison, here's the Garfield site at the same scale.

The street/angle isn't as important, but drive north on W25 from Metro and it really pops the entire way into the city.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
Yes. Also worth noting that County Council is pretty fed up with the delays they've had to deal with due to scrapping the Transport Rd. site. Also, re: putting it in Cleveland - there was a lot of resident outcry when they proposed putting in Slavic Village, I'm sure any other vacant site in Cleveland would be an issue with folks.

East Cleveland News (Non-Development)
Sending this off topic, but that's where the Ukrainian communities are within the region and have been since white flight of the '60s, it's nothing recent. Same goes for most if not all European immigrants that originally called Cleveland home. https://case.edu/ech/articles/u/ukrainians Sidenote, I bought the physical copy of the Cleveland Encyclopedia and phew is it fun flipping through the thing and finding little factoids - the web version doesn't do it justice.

Cleveland: North Collinwood / Waterloo Arts District: Development and News
At risk of dragging this off topic, if they could do something similar maybe North CWood can get better RTA service! One of the many places that an hour plus bus ride into downtown during rush doesn't make sense. To bring it back, there's an Aldi down the road in Euclid - probably wouldn't be them taking the space over (also their footprint seems much smaller). Maybe as Willo stated, a new to the market place might take the risk.

Cleveland: Brooklyn Centre / Old Brooklyn: Development and News
This street/neck of the woods isn't screaming for 500k+ brick facades, though. It's been sitting empty for over ten years and to be frank, this street isn't exactly the South Hills. The OldBK market is hot but at the same time Knez is having a time trying to sell one of their $325k+ full homes with yard. That said, the neighborhood has changed noticeably in the short time I've lived there but not to the levels that would support some OHC type build.

I bet Jimmy is banking on the airport upgrade/construction aligning with the stadium build. There's substantial roadwork involved in most of the airport proposals.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Buffalo isn't getting a SB, dome or not. I don't get the hype, it's a REALLY bad deal for host cities. https://cnr.ncsu.edu/news/2024/02/super-bowl-economic-impact/ https://lerner.udel.edu/seeing-opportunity/the-business-side-of-the-super-bowl/ https://lvsportsbiz.com/2024/01/27/las-vegas-paying-60-million-to-host-super-bowl-58-including-17-million-for-nfl-expense-reimbursement/ But back to the Lakefront (and the Burke site most likely never happening), maybe the site will be ready in 40 years for when the Browns expect another new stadium.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
The vast majority of this land has been owned by CMHA for decades. For the most part, especially since the railroad stopped cutting through here, there's been no taxable land since probably the 60s. https://www.arcgis.com/apps/View/index.html?appid=ddb0ee6134d64de4adaaa3660308abfd

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
Everyone fighting this is a politician, if they just let the Browns go quietly do you really think that'd go over well w/their constituency/next election? Even if 0.00039% of Cleveland residents go to the games it's still bad PR to 'lose' the Browns. Anywho, Kazy is the one that initiated this with his preemptive press conference months ago, Bibb is just following through on council's desire to enforce the law.

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway District: Development and News
Most Gateway area bars are pretty quiet on non-gamenights. The resto near Gateway was also a massive space, even after the BoA ATM cut down on it. I'd imagine consolidating into their new space also has something to do with prioritizing lunch crowds - they're also a literal hair closer to the hotels, if that makes any difference.

To be fair, Heinens does have a loyalty card. As a downtown worker I'll get a bunch of bogo offers or x% off items I purchase on the regular. I get the bigger point though, you don't need the card to get regular discounts when things are on sale.
