  1. Sorry to butt in, but Old Brooklynite here- -Ben Franklin Community Garden is right around the garden from Steve's/Gabe's, stop by to see some veggies post grease lol -Old Brooklyn Farmers Market on Saturday Mornings- not as great as some others but still a nice little gathering of OB folks -Metropolitan Coffee is a good stop too if you need a coffee fix pre-food coma-nap -Old Brooklyn Cheese are good people, grab some mustard and cheese before heading back Or do these things when you aren't ready for a nap, either way, it's not as exciting as your neck of the woods but we've got some good culinary things going on! lol
  2. Makes some real sense with SHW across the street! Ps- isn't there a really cool office/suite in there from the VS Brothers' time?
  3. Until a land value tax comes along (read: never) we're going to be stuck with speculative lot owners for a looooong time. You'd hope the CBD could have a special assessment district like this but I'm sure it's illegal somewhere in the law.
  4. I'd definitely prefer to stick downtown if possible. But I'm sure I can make whatever work...
  5. Don't forget to add weekly power washing to that budget. That lot is for the birds, literally!
  6. Really appreciate this angle/setup, don't think I've ever seen a shot from this vantage before!

  8. Nah. First sentence really is aiming to get this thread shut down. Good job. Nobody in here is acting like this is the last build ever, an active and dense streetscape would be pretty damn nice though.
  9. Except we aren't dealing with 1 story vs 5 stories, weird analogy. Literally a 600' tower and something potentially the size of the Rockefeller- killing two lots and spurring additional development. You can't seriously think that one 1000' tower would add more to a city than multiple 4-500 footers. See my comments above, Cleveland lacks in street presence throughout downtown, more midrises would help with that. It's not like we don't have a ton of available land throughout the CBD if this theoretical 1000' comes along in the future (which...how long have the lots been vacant for?).
  10. I can't say I've ridden back there in a while but also hasn't been anything apparent from the street. I can take a spin around the complex and see if anything's changed from the outside...
  11. I know I've posted it around here before, but another tool (and perspective) is the county's aerial imagery. Go to maps.cuyahogacounty.us and click the Eagleview tab - you'll be able to see the building from multiple angles at 45* view. Imagery goes back for years so you can really see the transition of different areas.
  12. Hey now, USX tower is pretty friggin' cool! But speaking of seeing a building for 50-70 miles, this is pgh's equivalent. All the mid-rises (and narrower streets) really activate their downtown, hoping for some similar mid-rise urban canyon feels (5-7 lane roads don't really help with that though).
  13. Same, I'd rather have a smattering of midrises than one hulking tower. I love walking folks around town and parking lots or not, we don't have the urban density of other, similar cities. I'd prefer an urban canyon over one building I can see from 50 miles away.

It seems like Basheer has approached gas stations (or an ownership group), there's a lot of similar setups around town that I've noticed.
  15. So obsessed with non-existent traffic. We barely have a rush hour let alone consistent traffic. L-C bridge is down to one lane WB at the new build over there and everyone still makes the light, except now they need to do so while going the speedlimit. I digress. But can't help but lol at the thought of gridlock in Cleveland, god forbid!
  16. Preserving their view and ensuring their prominence on the square.
  17. Exactly. I did a project on this in college years and years ago and we were theoretically siting turbines off Erie. Long story short, they were unnoticeable by almost all buildings even a handful of miles offshore.
  18. I'd really love to see their viewshed that they feel is threatened. FWIW they're not even on the top floor of this building (that (aside from a balcony) doesn't even face the lake...).
  19. This is going to look great in Atlanta! 🤣 Seriously though what an exciting time to be a Clevelander
  20. No need to apologize, post away!

Back to the topic at hand, WCPN/Nick Castele just launched a Podcast on the Cle Mayoral Race - After Jackson. They played the first episode on SOI this morning, some really great work! Glad WCPN is cool with their reporters getting out and producing things (Behind the Bricks was also great)... Landing Page: https://www.ideastream.org/topics/after-jackson For real though, can y'all take this crime discussion somewhere else? Or at least tie it into the mayoral race in some regard...
  22. Land Value Tax to the rescue...but not in cle lol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_value_tax This may be a better home for the discussion?
  23. One thing I really enjoyed was walking around Boston late at night and looking into all the different lobbies and designs. I really hope that this has something cool or at least unique like @Mendoposted...
