  1. They're gone and they didn't fit the aesthetic of downtown at this point in time. I literally don't care enough to pull a records request, they were dead all the time there's no denying that. Hopefully they'll be back in the future. Also this is the thread for JHB, not the retail thread.
  2. I work around the corner and had a good three years of walking past that store prior to covid, nobody was ever in there. I'm sure they were looking for an exit plan long before the riots this just gave em an excuse. If they wanted to really be down there, businesses have insurance. It really didn't fit the aesthetic of downtown, shame to lose a clothing store but they were probably 5-10 years too early. Once there's variety of stores and enough foot traffic they'd prob fit back in.
  3. I swear I'm not obsessed with this building. Caught this on a bike ride Friday - actually rode up the parking garage to get this guy, it was worth the weird looks! And looking north..
  4. 😍 gawd wouldn't that be nice. But who will think of the commuters!?!? They may have to wait at a light a little longer on their way back to Chardon! All about it, assuming you could get local businesses/firms/DCA to pick up sponsorships for these strips - the city can't handle what little they have to maintain already.
  5. Our downtown greenspace as is kind of reminds me of going to grandma's house when I was a kid - there's nothing there for kids to enjoy it - it's just functional (exception being the splash pad/water in PS). Sure the malls are able to host huge events as is (it was great for the ASG, InCuya (despite the smaller numbers), Cavs, etc.), but with temporary installations (respecting the convention center roof) malls and greenspace would be more appreciated/used, but that requires an administration that knows what they're doing. I digress hah
  6. As promised, bike pics from this morning. And remember these are bike pics lol...
  7. Not to double post, but I took a lunch stroll to the back of the building, here's a few from that. Also tapped on the molding at the top and it's plastic lol, had to get the UO out of my system after not working down here in so long!
  8. Went into the office today, these look slick!

Just bought a new bike today - Kona Rove - time to start grinding some gravel!
  10. Was walking my dog around town on Saturday and snapped this...sorry for the limited frame (pano going up...and dog uninterested in historic renovations) but they were working on the weekend, so seems like they aren't messing around PS- bonus dog pic at the Drury/BOE building...
  11. So idk, just looking at the oblique imagery is there any chance they may be trying to emulate the BP Building/200 PS? I just did a rough measurement of the BP atrium and it's ~95 ft from the base to the roof and goes up to about 173 ft at its tallest point. Obviously it wouldn't be a contiguous building like BP (aside from a bridge), but just a thought.
  12. Aside from safety, any idea why these are set back like this? Is there an amenity space going between these and the roof edge or just stay like this?
  13. Oh yeah, streetviewing that it's gorgeous, glad it's getting some work! Cleveland's websites are all messed up right now and I know their permitting office is useless. Also, I wonder how much building inspectors care if they're actively fixing up a building that's a few years away from being torn down.
  14. I'll just say there's no new plats in that neck of the woods (book/page), that specific property (where 'The Oscar' is, 124-03-051) was transferred in August 2020, sold for $17,500. Not seeing anything with Cleveland permits...
  15. Here's an update from the bike yesterday, I'll try and get one in the other direction (they're putting up cladding on the north facing side).
  16. Hopefully they follow the lead of JHB, once they got going their protected sidewalk was fantastic. Call me pessimistic (no coffee yet) but I'm always flabbergasted that we can't maintain ped lanes when Cbus has no problem on N. High St/Short North...if it means kicking cars into the RTA lane, so be it, idc close that section to non-bus traffic...it's time that bikes, peds, hell - even scooters, have priority.
  17. dude you're going to get this thread locked again, talk about this in the hotel thread.

Thanks for the summary!!! I haven't been watching much hockey this year (sabres fan ☠️), so I was pleasantly surprised when I was flipping through channels and saw this. What an amazing scene and wonderful departure from the typical 'Stadium Series' games we'd be getting this time of year. I know the point of pro sports is making money for the owners, but man, I'd be game for more bucolic settings for games. Not sure if they still do this, but kind of reminds me of the Hockeytown USA/Hockeytown Canada games they used to do - I want to say those were preseason games, but they'd pick a random town and NHL would practice and play in old school barns. MLB might be a good model too- playing games in Williamsport for the LLWS, no real money to be had but an amazing scene.

So this thought came to me thinking about how city bike tours are awesome and let you see a lot from a vantage point that lets you look around and take things in. Who knows when we'll all be able to safely get together again so maybe try this virtually? Just a random idea, but it'd be cool to get some UO routes together for various Ohio cities - like, if you could only recommend one or two routes that hit on UO projects or things that are very important in your city, what routes would you recommend (this could be significant architecture, neighborhoods, bike infrastructure, civic spots, etc.)? Maybe 10 mile, 20 mile, and 40 mile routes (easy, moderate, hard)? I've used RideWithGPS.com in the past to map out routes, it seems to be a good free mapping piece (bonus points you can bring it into a bike computer). I'm sure google would work too!

Yep, you're correct. Maybe there would've been more concerns had I stayed overnight but I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary...

Just chiming in to say I went to Holiday Valley last Friday and it was great - honestly it's the least busy I've ever seen it, no lines and they were sending empty chairs up which never happens. We ended up making food in the parking lot (camp stove, chairs, beers) to avoid indoor dining/prices but even so, dining was quiet when we had to go in the lodges. Not sure what their weekend covid capacity is (it was sold out last Saturday), but I'd definitely recommend going out for a weekday if you're able. Left Cleveland around 7A and got back here around midnight. Long day but totally worth it!
  22. Prob not the right post to talk about it, but as a former host (I had a spare bedroom), Cleveland didn't have any specific rules as of a few years back (that I'm aware of at least) however they take their own fee/tax out of bookings. That was around 2016-2018 so obviously things could've changed, but I don't think short term rentals are as big of a deal here vs larger cities, still not great but that's for another discussion hah.
  23. Why assume when there's county GIS to help ya out? :P You're correct with that surface lot...I'm sure that'll be an expensive addition if they want to own all of that.
  24. Came here to post this, K&D has downtown cornered haha
