I assumed it was aimed at Danny K., Slife is a good egg in my book.

I mean just google the 'developer' and his background. Real standup guy. Your assumption is probably correct in one way or another.

Re: Takeovers Another move officers can’t take, according to the chief: boxing the stunt drivers in to prevent their escape. Todd told WTAM that such a tactic wouldn’t be constitutional.... ...The city is also considering using large vehicles to block streets, preventing stunt drivers from reaching intersections. Then there are longer-term answers such as street milling – digging grooves into intersections that damage the tires of motorists trying to drift and do donuts. https://signalcleveland.org/cleveland-street-takeovers-mayor-justin-bibb-police-response/

Cleveland: Cudell / West Boulevard / Edgewater: Development and News
From the other day, they're really trying to muscle the gas station through... "Near the end of council’s Sept. 30 meeting, Ward 17 Council Member Charles Slife spoke about public comment. He said he learned from council staff that two people dropped off registration forms at City Hall for all 10 speakers, the maximum number of commenters allowed at a meeting... ...All 10 speakers spoke in favor of a re-zoning proposal in Cudell, a neighborhood in Wards 11 and 15. If passed, the legislation could pave the way for a gas station at Madison Avenue and West Boulevard." https://signalcleveland.org/cleveland-city-council-member-warns-of-public-comment-monopoly/

The amount of cheap, simple infrastructure I saw in Toronto this weekend was eye opening. They painted TORONTO logo on jersey barriers and put them out into the road. Really tired of the city acting like they're doing amazing traffic calming work when nothing has really changed. They blame RTA and first responders as holding progress up, yet somehow bigger cities with more problems (and streetcars!) can manage. Tired of the city redesigning the wheel at every opportunity (RAPTOR bollards!!). I'll post some photos in an appropriate thread.

I don't bother calling the police unless it's really bad because I know their response times. I highly doubt the department has the capacity to spare 12-two person cars from any district. Not sure what category the takeovers get, but I'd assume 3/4 based the times I've called them in.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
We probably don't subsidize flights as much. According to USDOT our domestic fares are about the same (https://www.transtats.bts.gov/averagefare/), that said, when I'm searching routes I find Cleveland to be substantially cheaper than PIT or others...granted these cheap flights aren't on legacy carriers.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
At risk of going off topic, their current (former?) HQ doesn't have skywalks or anything of the sort: https://maps.app.goo.gl/UiRKc1BkNNbtBRsj7 Also re: foot activity I'm curious what the lunchtime walkers that I see in TC will do in the new building. Maybe they'll have a track or something in their wellness facilities to make up for the loss of that space. It is pretty crazy how few people you see outside of the Landmark Building for how many folks are working inside of it.

Last I heard they were overdesigning the bollards. That was months and months ago.

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
LI Post from Nathan Kelly: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/nkelly_playhouse-squares-vision-for-the-future-activity-7244778942614704128-sPbE It's true. After seven years of leading Cushman & Wakefield | CRESCO Real Estate, I’ll be handing over the reins to a new managing director and stepping into a new role at Playhouse Square as President of Real Estate. Thankfully, I’ll remain part of CRESCO for as long as they’ll have me. CRESCO will continue to be a partner to Playhouse Square, and I’ll continue to support the firm’s long-term growth. In the short term, I’ll be assisting with the transition to new leadership (a search has been underway for some time—stay tuned for exciting news). It’s been an honor to take credit for my colleagues’ work these past seven years, during which we’ve achieved record-breaking growth year after year. The culture here is unrivaled—an intangible that drives superior results for our clients. My team at CRESCO is smart, motivated, intellectually curious, entrepreneurial, and, frankly, very funny too. A familiar message to my colleagues is: "We are at our best when we’re replaceable." And believe me, I’m replaceable. "By ensuring the machine delivers on the ordinary without our intervention, we can focus on the extraordinary." Playhouse Square will be my next opportunity to focus on the extraordinary. Playhouse Square is on an incredible trajectory, set by my friends Tom Einhouse, Patty Gaul, Art Falco, and Gina Vernaci, from whom I’ve learned from and been challenged by over the past 15+ years. Their vision has been further energized by Craig Hassall, whose passion for placemaking in support of the performing arts and Cleveland inspired me to take on this role. Playhouse Square is already more than a collection of theaters, office buildings, retail locations, two multi-family properties, a hotel, an exciting streetscape, and parking for 1,400. But there’s more to be done, not the least of which is expanding the campus north to include the redevelopment of the historic Greyhound site, and bringing more visitors to real destination that always has something going on. I am thrilled to be joining such a talented, committed team to be part of Playhouse Square’s next chapter.

Design is much better than last iteration, but can't help but see a crappy hotel when seeing their windows in the brick and black portions.

Eh, be careful what you wish for: https://www.newschannel5.com/news/newschannel-5-investigates/new-bill-from-the-governor-might-let-building-developers-hire-their-own-inspectors-is-it-safe The bill would allow developers and builders to hire their own outside people to review plans, do inspections, and issue permits required during the building process, tasks normally handled by local codes and building officials or the state fire marshal's office. The power of GIS! :)

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Somewhat relevant to where the stadium goes - I'm terrified of driving on the highways around town after games let out. I was driving through DMC yesterday and witnessed post game swerving and swaying with a handful of speeding drivers (and not texting swerving...). I hope wherever the new stadium goes, we figure out a way to curtail drunk driving after the game because it's always a bad time walking/driving/biking after these idiots get behind the wheel. It's larger than the stadium, but still, in this regard I'd almost be okay with the airport site to get them out of the immediacy of downtown. Cleveland police make fewer arrests for drunken driving, a drop some say stems from a depleted force https://www.cleveland.com/news/2024/09/cleveland-police-make-fewer-arrests-for-drunken-driving-a-drop-some-say-stems-from-a-depleted-force.html

GISguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentWorked out great, ended up getting 14 coaster rides in. A couple had absolutely zero lines (GateKeeper, Rougarou, Raptor) and we were able to get a couple rides in on those, back to back. MF was on and off a bunch throughout the day and they were running 2/3 trains but eventually they got all of them running by evening. Unfortunately Steel Vengeance was down all day, I'll ride it someday! My niece was shellshocked after MF but recovered relatively quickly after some time in Snoopytown lol. Ended up eating at Jordan's Restaurant and it didn't disappoint! And for the record, we didn't move the car lol And thinking of the new coaster, hopefully the hype video is as awesome as MF's was haha

GISguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentMaybe this belongs in a random questions thread, but taking family to CP tomorrow. I haven't been since before COVID/gold pass really took off. Any tips or tricks you'd recommend? My brother sent a thread that recommended kind of starting in the back and work forward but I'm sure some folks might have better tips. Obviously TT2 is out of the question but yeah, open to suggestions! Also - any good/rec'd breakfast spots between CLE and Sandusky? Here's the thread he sent over:

Cleveland: Clark-Fulton: BVQ District
I'd echo other people's points that to get from OHC to this new area it's a pretty miserable experience. The section from Treo south also isn't great but there's a lot of potential (and a TON of underutilized land) down towards the Clark intersection. Maybe this is a loss if the project site were in a vacuum, but there's so much vacant land and underutilized land south of here on W25 that could create a nice city feel heading towards OHC. Maybe once the 25 connects project gets rolling and W25/Pearl is reduced in size a bit, you'll see more pedestrian friendly amenities, but right now you couldn't pay me to live on that road. My rambling aside: I feel like I've got a better photo of this site, but in lieu of me finding it, here's a view from Queen Ave-ish (I'll take another gander through my photos)- there's some really good unobstructed views of downtown from here (this is from 2021).

I was going to ask, it makes a lot more sense w/a patio out front. Right now it just kind of looks awkward. Thanks Ian!

Metro Cleveland: Road & Highway News
The current ramp across I90 in Gordon Park isn't ADA compliant or up to today's standards for that matter. It seems like 1.5M is low to replace that bridge, it's probably to make the descent on the northern side safer and better connected. CHEERS long term goals include taking out the 72nd St exit, so this could be a nice short term fix for the on/off ramps around it - they're a mess. MLK exits seem like a lost cause, especially since they were just redone. E55 is also a mess coming from the south, but hopefully once NEORD's project wraps, getting it back to two lanes through there will make that a bit safer.

Man that is a LOT for just string lights. I know it's unrealistic to think it'd be for like public seating but phew, overkill and frankly kind of ugly.
