  1. This thread is going to get locked before it has a chance to take off. 92.3 is obsessed with saying the Jake is a POS and OLD, yadayada despite it always being called one of the premier in the league in so many sports columns as well as with guests. MLB wouldn't have given us an ASG if they thought our stadium was terrible. If ticket prices come down to a reasonable amount (mostly fee BS), and in park prices don't kill you every game they wouldn't have attendance problems. I'd love to buy a quarter season plan, but I also like grabbing a beer or three at games and at 10+ a pop, it adds up quickly and drains my desire to go to more than a few games a year. As far as THIS thread is concerned, First Energy was built quickly and whatever, but it's an attraction where it is, especially if Haslams develop the lakefront as has been proposed. It's an anchor for a much larger thing. I think of Heinz Field when it comes to surrounding development and waterfront land. Also, build more transit down there, or get people to walk more and boom, your access issues are solved. The city should also work with traffic engineering firms to enhance the flow as well (my old firm did this for a lot of NFL teams). I went to the Bills game this year and it was AWESOME to be able to take transit from Old Brooklyn there and back, embrace having a stadium in the city (with the amenities it brings) Lastly, to say it's a FES is POS is bizarre- I came from WNY and Ralph Wilson is a POS, not to mention the radio guys suggested moving a new stadium to the middle of nowhere aka hearkening back to the Richfield Colosseum days. Somehow the 'guts' of Ralph Wilson and Arrowhead Stadiums (among other OLD stadiums) are A-O-K to keep putting money in and renovations. The area has much larger things to be concerned about - Progressive Field is pretty damn nice and ranks high year over year, First Energy Stadium is in a good spot if Haslams put their development plans in motion and really isn't that bad. TLDR; listen to who's doing the talking. Buffalo always has to deal with this crap the stadium is outdated, modern amenities are needed, etc., etc., rarely is it the casual fan saying this, it's almost always the leagues, owners, and mouthpieces aka 92.3.
  2. I never realized how intricate this building is. The different levels of windows/increasing detail as it flows upward. What a cool building and great restoration job.
  3. Semantics but PNC Tower was completed when I was still living down there (2016ish). I want to say it's also LEED Gold Certified, so that probably also added a good amount of money to the overall costs.
  4. This makes so much more sense than Brecksville's offer. It doesn't seem like that big of a kick in the pants (especially with schools receiving their tax dollars), and just makes sense.
  5. Cool angle, thanks for the pic @marty15!
  6. like, for real. My thoughts exactly when I saw the article. It seems nothing could really compete with that, no matter how obsessed the CEO was with having a nearby R&D center. As they say, money talks/there's no bigger motivator than $$, etc. etc. Sorry, commenting while reading, but I wasn't here for Progressive's move to Mayfield - is this a similar situation at all? Just seems like a bizarre amount, especially when it comes to just shifting jobs WITHIN the same county, how is this crap allowed? OKAY, last edit, I swear. But how can we give a ridiculous amount of tax breaks and then promise 77 interchange upgrades, and Miller Rd. widening? They could've just been in Cleveland where the infrastructure is nearly already there? Even though Brecksville is promising these breaks, the county and state are on the hook for a LOT.
  7. Now's the time to snap archival photos of the plaza, as ugly as it is. Better yet, can someone ask the hostel to put a timelapse camera up on their rooftop space?? This is going to be such a cool project to watch.
  8. It looks really mediocre from the street tbh, if they did a quality job and it didn't look half baked it'd probably be different. I guess it's worth giving it time to see if they improve the space. At present, sure it's not an empty storefront, but it gives 'wtf is this doing here' vibes.
  9. And some of the front fascades, it's limiting my upload, so I'll add the other two later ?
  10. ONE nice thing about these freezing cold days is that they're usually blue skied!
  11. GISguy replied to KJP's post in a topic in Mass Transit
Looks like Esri is trying to get into the transit game. I wonder if any Ohio agencies will bite: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/3e62d2d425fc472db12404dfa116c18b
  12. If one of the only things we're complaining about is the name, I think we're in a good spot! Developers are obviously tuned into the resident critics at UO!
  13. I'll play lol - when I was in Columbus a couple years ago for a conference they were working on High St up and down (utilities if I had to guess), any place where the sidewalk was closed they had a jersey barriered pedestrian lane in the street. It's a shame that JHB is one of the few buildings where they've done this...and look how long that took.
  14. I forget the name of this one Edit: Mayfield Station, but here's a shot from today. The area is starting to feel wonderfully dense towards UC (if I wasn't waiting for the bus, I would've captured it looking down Mayfield...but beautiful day with the snow nonetheless). I do have to say the sidewalk access is bs though coming from the redline. At least sidewalk closures downtown give you a crosswalk or you'd hope they would lead you, this is just eh, tough luck and good riddance here's a blind crossing, god speed. +
  15. To add to this, the microgrid is being aimed at the 24/7 operations - banks, major corps., CSU, etc. - those that can't really afford to depend solely on CPP/First Energy. Don't quote me, but I believe the 'whale building' is going to be a tie-in.
  16. Good to know they can expand inward. Small or not, it's better than having a complete deadspace on such a lively part of Euclid. Heck, maybe there'll be a Lumen 2.0 leasing office in there! ?
  17. lol BAD THINGS ARE AHEAD ...but hopefully not, they may want to rethink what an eye of a storm/hurricane is lol.
  18. I wonder if they can change their proposal up to try and force it in. DG doesn't seem like the type of business that's going to give up without a fight....or just move to like Brooklyn Centre or something.
  19. Looks like Dollar General is DOA. As an Old Brooklynite I'm okay with this.
  20. Curious if yinz have any recommendations for downtown sandwich spots. It'd be great to get some quality meats and not just Giant Eagle-esque deli meat. Sorry if this is the wrong place for the ask...
  21. RE: Parcels Additionally, the tax bill isn't any less because they've broken it into pieces, for the longest time you'd see "listed with" parcels, aka the tax information is stored with one parcel in a group of parcels owned by the same people. It's a mess and forced consolidation should be more prevalent. Take a look at Wolstein Center as an example- there's a handful of parcels below a fully built arena and it's been like that forever...
