That's pretty much what I told my wife, too. Is this group just trying to collect the signatures for a City-wide referendum, or would this be county-wide?

Movie Co-Starring Matthew McConaughey to Begin Filming in Lakewood Lights. Camera. …Lakewood! Part of Downtown Lakewood will be transformed into a Hollywood film shoot, with the action slated to begin Monday, April 24. The film, yet to be given a title, stars Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bruce Dern, among others. The movie tells the true story of Richard Wershe Jr., who in mid-1980s Detroit at the age of only 14 became an undercover informant for local and federal law enforcement agencies and then established himself as a major drug dealer. The story follows that time of the boy’s life as well as the relationship with his blue-collar father, portrayed by McConaughey. Kevin Foster, the assistant location manager for the film, said that Rust Belt cities of Cleveland and Detroit share many similar characteristics, noting that Lakewood was a perfect fit. “This is an ideal situation,” he said. “We’re happy to have this opportunity to film in Lakewood.” MORE: http://www.onelakewood.com/movie-co-starring-matthew-mcconaughey-to-begin-filming-in-lakewood/

Dave's Markets likely to replace flagship AsiaTown store with new Midtown supermarket Homegrown grocer Dave's Markets plans to leave its flagship Payne Avenue store - the site where the business originated as a corner shop in the late 1920s - for a new location in Midtown, where the company is planning a rare ground-up construction project. President Dan Saltzman confirmed this week that the move, from 3301 Payne Ave. in AsiaTown to an emerging business park at East 59th Street and Chester Avenue, is likely, though it hinges on a public-private financing package that he's not ready to discuss. If the money falls into place, construction in Midtown could start late this year, and the new store would open in fall or early winter of 2018. The existing store wouldn't close until the new project is complete. The potential relocation is causing consternation in AsiaTown and the broader St. Clair Superior neighborhood, where residents - elderly shoppers and people who don't own cars, in particular - are worried about losing a full-service grocery store. Business owners in the district also are concerned about the possibility of diminished foot traffic and uncertainty about the future use of the existing store and two nearby parking lots, which the Saltzman family owns. In Midtown, though, the fourth-generation company sees the chance to build something more innovative and modern, on a campus that will marry health care and fresh food. http://realestate.cleveland.com/realestate-news/2017/04/daves_markets_likely_to_replac.html#incart_m-rpt-2

Cleveland: Random Development and News
From St. Joseph Academy (On Rocky River Drive in the Westpark/Kamm's Corner Neighborhood): "Dear Friends: We are happy to share with you exciting news about our plans for our sisters and Saint Joseph Academy! Our plans secure our history and presence on Rocky River Drive and set a course for the future as we announce the building of a new motherhouse for our sisters in Cleveland and River’s Edge, our spirituality center, as well as a partnership between the Sisters of St. Joseph and Saint Joseph Academy that will enable the Academy to renovate the existing motherhouse for adaptive re-use for its students, faculty, and staff. For almost 120 years, our sisters and the Academy have anchored the West Park neighborhood. We are proud to have been among the first settlers of this area. Our roots here are deep and healthy. With the building of a new motherhouse we renew and enhance our commitment to the community. We are very excited for our sisters in Cleveland to live in a building that will support their needs and offer the area residents and others a place for reflection and growth at River’s Edge. Our beautiful new building is scheduled to be completed in 2019 and will be a lovely addition to our campus. The relationship between the Academy and the sisters is intertwined and impossible to separate. For many years, our sisters lived with students and together shared their lives in the current motherhouse building. Saint Joseph Academy was truly an extension of the sisters’ home and ministry. When the present Academy building was opened in 1928, an architectural reflection of the motherhouse which it faces, the sisters assumed great financial burden and responsibility yet remained determined to answer the educational needs of the times. In 1928, Bishop Joseph Schrembs of Cleveland compared the motherhouse to a power station: “The sisters give back to the world far more than the world gives to them. The motherhouse is a storehouse of power and preparation for a life devoted to Christian charity, Christian education and Christian welfare work.” This latest chapter with adaptive re-use of the motherhouse honors the values that the sisters maintain to this day which are not to be limited by buildings but are committed to many different kinds of ministries to unify the world and address its hungers. Sister Nancy Conway, on behalf of the Congregational Leadership Team, said, “Partnering with the Academy to adapt the motherhouse for their use will enable students to learn and thrive in a building that holds our history, but not our future. We support the Academy’s efforts to look forward as we ourselves start a new chapter on this same property with the hopes that all of us – sisters, Academy students, faculty and staff, employees of the congregation, and staff and affiliates of River’s Edge - will continue to carry forward the values of the Gospel and our mission of unifying love.” Mary Ann Corrigan-Davis ‘71, President of Saint Joseph Academy, concurs, “This is an exciting time for all of us on this campus and we are eager to bring the energy of our students to this special building. We are grateful to the Sisters of St. Joseph for their generosity and support.” Plans for the renovation of the motherhouse are set to begin in 2019, after the sisters and River’s Edge have moved to the new building which will be constructed on the northwest portion of the property. Much prayer and discernment have gone into making these decisions about the new building for the sisters and the existing motherhouse. We ask for your continued support as we roll up our sleeves again and embark on another bold and courageous new chapter for our sisters and the Academy."

Eastlake City Council approves sale of former Nike site for medical marijuana business Eastlake City Council on March 14 unanimously approved the sale of the former JFK Senior Center property, located at 33505 Curtis Blvd., to Buckeye Relief for a potential medical marijuana business. During a Finance Committee meeting, Mayor Dennis Morley stated that the property, which is also a former launch base for the Nike-Ajax missiles, was appraised for $300,000. That is the price for which the city would sell the property, he said. Sale of the property is contingent upon Buckeye Relief, which is based in Chagrin Falls, getting the required state-approved licensing. His mastery of that tactic has probably lifted his D enough that he may now be considered the GOAT. Especially when you consider that Jordan had dispensations well beyond "superstar rules" when the NBA needed his marketability desperately. If the Cavs beat GSW again with Durant it's not even a question about GOAT anymore. Jordan never faced a team with that level of talent in his career. The 80s Celtics and the 90s Pistons, Rockets, Jazz and Knicks aren't even close. No disrespect to those teams either, it's just a matter of fact. Cleveland Cavaliers players, coaches react to news of Kevin Durant's knee injury Cleveland Cavaliers players and coaches reacted Wednesday to news that Golden State Warriors All-Star Kevin Durant will be out of action for about a month after he sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee and bruised a bone in his leg earlier this week. As the Cavs prepared for tonight's game in Boston against the Celtics, LeBron James said of the news: "I hope it's not serious. We'll see what happens." The Warriors said Wednesday they have not ruled Durant out to return before the end of the regular season. Durant hyperextended his knee early in the Warriors' 112-108 loss to the Wizards on Tuesday. He later underwent an MRI, which revealed a Grade 2, sprain in the knee and a bruised tibia. Will Lake Erie Be Home to the First Wind Farm in the Great Lakes? By Susan Cosier The winds whipping across Lake Erie can average up to 16 miles per hour. And about 7 to 10 miles northwest of Cleveland, there's a pilot project in the works to capture them. The offshore wind farm would be the second in the nation and the first ever in a Great Lake. The offshore wind industry is already expanding on the northeastern seaboard, but a freshwater wind farm would face different conditions than those in the salty seas of the Atlantic—the biggest one being ice. Lake Erie, the most shallow of the Great Lakes, usually freezes during winter, so a turbine would have to withstand huge chunks of ice crashing into its pole. That hasn't stopped LEEDCo, the renewable energy company proposing the project, from pushing ahead. Earlier this month, it submitted its permit application for the project, dubbed Icebreaker Wind. If the regulatory agencies—including the Ohio Power Siting Board, the state department of natural resources, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Coast Guard—give the thumbs up, the towers could go up as early as next year.
