Cleveland Cavs Discussion
NBA Star Kyrie Irving’s ‘Uncle Drew’ Commercials to Get Film Treatment Cleveland Cavaliers superstar Kyrie Irving is hoping for a big screen slam dunk. Sources tell Variety that Temple Hill Entertainment has acquired the feature film rights to Irving’s “Uncle Drew” Pepsi commercials. “Skiptrace” scribe Jay Longino is set to write the script and Irving is attached to reprise the role of Drew. Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, and John Fischer will produce the film, described as a love letter to basketball. The original Pepsi Max advertisements showed Irving, in full make-up, playing a 70-plus-year-old man, Drew, who would show up to pick-up basketball games and school kids half his age, while also reminiscing about how the game used to be played. Fischer was a big fan of the online shorts and showed them to Bowen thinking they could possibly turn it into a movie. But it was Longino’s pitch that really got them excited about pursuing the rights for a feature film. “Marty and I had recently sold a pitch to Fox 2000, so he and John reached out and asked if I was interested in bringing them a take,” Longino told Variety. “Looking back, I think I tried to play it cool with them on the phone and told them that I’d think about it. But the truth is, I was pretty fired up. As both a former player and a die-hard fan, this truly is a dream project for me.” Described as “Blues Brothers” in the pick-up basketball world, Longino’s pitch shows Drew and his old squad on the legendary Rucker Park basketball court in Harlem. Years later Drew is talked into returning to the courts to compete in a tournament and goes on a road trip to round the old squad up to play. Cleveland Mayoral Race 2017
Does anybody know who the other four people considering a run? (Jackson, Johnson, Chrostowski....) Crain's editorial: Mayor for life? Frank Jackson has been a solid, if uninspiring, mayor of Cleveland for nearly 12 years. He announced last week that he wants the job for an unprecedented fourth term — a prospect that doesn't alarm us, exactly, but one that nonetheless raises the question of whether it's time for a fresher perspective at the top of City Hall. The mayor says there's still work to be done on the big issues that have been his focus during a life of public service: the health of the school system, the safety of city residents, the enhancement of services that improve quality of life, and the spreading of prosperity beyond downtown and into neighborhoods. Any mayor who has been in office for three terms is going to have some successes and some setbacks on such broad performance measures, and Jackson is no exception. . . . So far, seven people have pulled petitions to enter the mayoral race. . . . http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20170205/VOICES01/170209918/crains-editorial-mayor-for-life#utm_medium=email&utm_source=ccl-morningroundup&utm_campaign=ccl-morningroundup-20170206&email_realestate

Simon's Supermarket opening Feb. 4 aims to be fresh food oasis in former food desert By Janet H. Cho Simon Hussain didn't want to simply open a supermarket in the Euclid Richmond Shopping Center; he wanted to open a neighborhood grocery store that would draw people now driving miles out of the city to feed their families. On Feb. 4, when he formally welcomes customers to the grand opening of his third family-owned food market, he will find out if he succeeded. More importantly, his store will provide an oasis of fresh food in an area that both the city and state had previously identified as a food desert -- a census tract with a poverty rate of 20 percent or higher, where residents live more than 1/2 a mile from a full-service supermarket, but may not drive. Local and state officials believed so strongly in Simon's Supermarket that they awarded Hussain $775,000 in grants and loans to help defray his startup costs: a $250,000 grant and a $400,000 loan from the Healthy Food For Ohio Program; and a $125,000 grant from the City of Euclid's HUD-funded storefront renovation program. Roger Sikes, program manager for the Cuyahoga County Board of Health's Creating Healthy Communities initiative, said officials are pleased with how the store turned out, as well as how responsive Hussain has been to his neighbors' suggestions. Hussain has a strong track record of listening to his customers. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2017/01/simons_supermarket_opening_feb.html

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
We heard it here first Sources: Cleveland Indians to host 2019 MLB All-Star Game at Progressive Field There's a mid-to-late-'90s vibe emerging at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario. The Indians will hold a press conference on Friday morning to announce that they will host the 2019 MLB All-Star Game at Progressive Field, multiple sources told cleveland.com. The city last hosted the sport's Midsummer Classic in 1997, in the middle of a storied (albeit title-less) era in the franchise's history. In that 1997 exhibition, Tribe catcher Sandy Alomar captured the Most Valuable Player Award for his go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning, which vaulted the American League to a 3-1 victory. The Indians have hosted the All-Star Game on four other occasions, as well. In 1935, 1954, 1963 and 1981, the contest took place at Municipal Stadium. The 2019 game will mark the sixth in Cleveland. No other franchise has hosted more, and only New York and Chicago -- areas with multiple teams -- have hosted more as a city. http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2017/01/cleveland_indians_all-star_gam_1.html

^Technically, Scene didn't come up with it. They just posted something from Reddit user. (I wonder if Berman is a UO member :) ) Regardless, that is awesome. Three suggestions at first glance: ~* Have the western terminus of the "E" line extend to the Clague and Westlake P&R ~* Somehow work in the North Olmsted P&R with either the "D" or "E" lines ~* Extend the eastern terminus of the "A" line out to the Euclid P&R

Cavaliers hung photo of LeBron James' game-sealing finals block outside the Warriors' locker room Did you hear the Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Finals last season after the Golden State Warriors blew a 3-1 lead? Well, the Cavaliers were worried the Warriors had missed that bit of news, so they left this door open right down the hall from the visiting locker room before the two played in Cleveland on Christmas day. But hold up, wait. What’s that on LeBron’s finger? http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2016/12/25/14078736/cavaliers-hung-a-photo-of-lebron-james-game-sealing-finals-block-outside-the-warriors-locker-room?_ga=1.19243696.984112356.1482861246

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
I wouldn't be surprised if 2053 West 3rd (yellow Cab Building) goes up on the market soon because of this development. In this age of Uber/Lyft/etc, plus a $25000 annual tax bill, I cannot imagine how they are remaining afloat anymore.

Euclid City Council to hear proposed amendment to switch to city manager-led government Euclid City Council will hear a newly-introduced charter amendment at a Monday night meeting that if passed, would switch the city's government to be led by a city manager. The legislation presented at Monday night's meeting was composed by the city's Charter Review Commission, led by President Jeffrey Beck. The topic of a government manager has been raised and discussed throughout the 2016 term, Beck told cleveland.com.
