  1. MGD - here is an answer to your signage question a while back (at least I think it was you) From the Avenue Newsletter:
  2. No. I live south of Lorain on Fidelity.
  3. I would say it is pretty high. But what I'm really interested in right now is what the Mayor plans on doing with the current center? It appears his Capital Plan that was just released (draft) has about $1.7 million worth of projects for the current center starting this year and ending in 2011. What could all of that be for if they are building new? Is it possibly for the oft discussed film and soundstage? scroll>>>>>>>>

And here's the article that went with the photo: Blunt words from builders Developers tell city they won't build without abatements Wednesday, January 24, 2007 Olivera Perkins Plain Dealer Reporter City Council will cut off Cleveland's redevelopment lifeline if it alters tax abatement, a group of developers told a council committee Tuesday. Developers told the Community and Economic Development Committee that if council scraps or even alters the program, they won't build in Cleveland. They described a bleak Cleveland without the tax break program: A vacant state hospital instead of the suburban-style MillCreek subdivision off Turney Road. Huge swaths of overgrown lots and abandoned, dilapidated buildings in the Central neighborhood instead of more than 300 new houses. Empty industrial land in the Flats instead of upscale condos and apartments. Council is examining whether to revise the abatement, which waives property taxes on new houses and condos for 15 years. The abatement applies only to structures - not land, which is still taxed. Developers said without the tax break, most of the new homeowners, two-thirds of whom move in from the suburbs, would have no interest in calling Cleveland home. Without abatement, they said banks aren't interested in financing such construction projects because the market of buyers would dry up. http://www.stonebridgecleveland.com/news/articles/012407_PlainDealer.jpg
  5. Sounds like Scaravelli Island. Does he still own a large portion of that land? I wish I new what I did with that old rendering that had places like "Cimperman Lane."

I noticed a couple of things this week at the site: about a 1/4 of the Sprawlmart framing is already up and in the parking lot there are a number of mini-towers (similar to the large towers they put up with the name on it) throughout the site. They look like little oil rigs.

Don't know. I wonder if they used it for stabilizer at City View.

What about the Moscone Center in San Francisco? Out of the 9 or 10 centers I have been to in the past, I always felt they did a good job creating a civic space. Don't you (anyone) think that is possible here?
  10. ^AAARRRGGHHH That completely ruined my day. What a complete waste. With all of the housing nearby in Lakewood coming online, I was expecting the trend to continue here.

Lots of things happened last Friday during Cleveland's Planning Commission meeting with ODOT. WCPN reports on just one part: I want to add, seeing Norm Krumholz on the commission made me happy. The person he replaced was a lump (for lack of a better term). Krumholz brings incredible experience and insight for the board.
  12. The old DeLorean Cadillac dealership on West 117th Street is completely gone. I know it was discussed on some thread last year, but I cannot find it. Anybody recall what is being built there?
  13. Over in the Convention Center thread: And then:
  14. More news on the Axentis move. From Crain's:
  15. I figured as much. I was just surprised it did not come up in the story.
  16. Pass this on to anyone you know who might want to take advantage of the voucher program. From PluggedInCleveland.com:

    10) Green Onions (Chi Chi's)
  18. I don't blame you. It's obviously the PD's reporter, John C. Kuehner's fault. Even I know how to ask a follow up question... usually.
  19. Thanks, KJP. Did you, or anyone else, hear if they are keeping the elephant relief (see below) that is on the outside of the current building? If not, what will be done with it? More questions: Will the Zoo bring back the hippos, warthogs, wallabies and tapirs? If Martika, Moshi and Jo do not come back as part of the new pack of ten elephants, who will be the new artists?
  20. Do you have a copy of the model handy to post?

That is an amazing shade of blue.
  22. Wow! That is going to be one cool Elephant house. My kids will miss them the lovely poo smell. I'm glad we gt to see them one last time (during the warm spell a few weeks ago) before they left. I think one of the polar bears was shipped to Cinci to help make baby bears recently too. The zoo is also getting ready to celebrate its 125 year this year nd would lke some submissions of visitors favorite memories. I miss the old Monkey Island. Zoo Press Release:
  23. I think the Giant Eagle in Westown open also. I drove by today and noticed the parking lot was no longer empty.
  24. Does this mean they will absolutely not build new?
