Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Knowing that there is an active developer looking to make something work on this land and that the property I will suggest is nowhere near ready to start development, I feel something of this nature, based on what Horizon may be looking for, is better suited for the First Energy site at 6800 Marginal Burke Parking Lot = 7 Acres vs First Energy = 62 Acres Just a thought

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Since Superior is part of U.S. Route 322, wouldn't this need to be approved by the Federal Government? I though that was one of, if not THE reason the plan was executed in the fashion we see now. The designers/city/etc did not want to wait for whatever process the Feds use to end the route. I could be wrong though

I like this a lot. Completely different then what we have downtown already Buildings rarely look like they do in initial renderings; sometimes better - sometimes not. Here is the rendering cropped and color corrected

Metro Cleveland: Road & Highway News
Unless ODOT Director Jerry Wray misspoke (or I misheard), he specifically said during the press conference that there would be eight lanes in each direction when the project is complete. I admit I may have misheard... but I did hear 8 lanes for sure. As this sounds ridiculous, I will admit to being wrong :)

Cleveland Area TOD Discussion
One of the steps toward this goal requires acquiring the land formerly held by the Harley Davidson dealership. They built and moved into a brand new facility located 4985 W 150th St within the past year. I don't recall if there is anybody currently occupying the former dealership, but it is still owned by Pleasant Valley Enterprises. According to Google Street View (https://goo.gl/maps/h8eUQcn42sr) it was vacant as of October 2015.

Metro Cleveland: Road & Highway News
Looks like we are getting some new bridges... or at least bridge replacements. They are proposing to build a new bridge in between the two existing spans. This will allow, when complete, one span to be closed and be replaced. Once one span is replaced, the other will be removed and replaced. When complete, there will be eight lanes of traffic going in each direction

Euclid News
HGR announces new national automotive tenant Nope, HGR Industrial Surplus is not getting into the used car business, but DriveTime, a new national automotive tenant, will be joining HGR Industrial Surplus and NEO Sports Complex at Nickel Plate Station, 20001 Euclid Avenue, Euclid, Ohio, in September. The company is based out of Arizona and sells used cars. It currently has 139 dealerships throughout the country and is planning to open 10 more by the end of the year. Its geographic region started in the west and is expanding to the East Coast. It employees more than 1,000 people. The company’s largest competitor in the area is CarMax. The facility in Euclid will be used as an inspection and distribution center. DriveTime will buy used cars and ship them into Euclid for service and detailing. From there, they will be sent to one of its retail locations for sale. The inspection center will have more than 20 car lifts, mechanics area, spray booths, wash stations, and other car service features. The center will be its largest in the country, eventually feeding at least 11 retail locations. The retail locations will stretch from Detroit to Erie, Pennsylvania. The inspection center will process approximately 56 vehicles per day. It will utilize the large parking lot for unfinished and finished cars. The center will employee between 85 to 100 people. The company will be conducting a fit out for new offices and bathrooms within the facility and will be investing more than $2 million into its operation. https://hgrinc.com/hgr-announces-new-national-automotive-tenant/

Legslative Action: 10th District and State
Looks like as good of a place to post as any: Great news for Ohio history enthusiasts! As you may recall, a threshold was recently established in state law that requires all of the state’s income tax check-offs generate a minimum of $150,000 or face elimination if they fall short two consecutive years. In 2014, the Ohio History Fund check-off generated $171,000 before falling steeply to just $80,000 in 2015. Data showed that all of the other income tax check-offs experienced steep declines from 2014 to 2015. Results so far in 2016 indicate that the Ohio History Fund will fall short of $150,000 this year. Hundreds of you responded this spring by contacting your state legislators – thank you – it made a big difference! Rather than facing elimination, the Ohio History Fund tax check-off and other tax check-offs can now breathe easier thanks to legislative approval from the Ohio General Assembly. State Representative Kirk Schuring (R-Canton) took the lead in sponsoring an amendment that lowers the threshold from $150,000 to $50,000 with elimination for check-offs that fall short five consecutive years, instead of two. Governor Kasich just signed House Bill 182, legislation that revised the income tax threshold, into law yesterday. Representative Schuring, the Ohio House Majority Floor Leader, was honored at this year’s Statehood Day event at the Ohio Statehouse by earning the Ohio History Leadership Award. His leadership on this issue further demonstrates that he is worthy of the award and a true friend of Ohio history. Anyone wishing to express their thanks to Rep. Schuring may do so by emailing [email protected]. Many thanks to you for your support in helping ensure a future for the Ohio History Fund income tax check-off! Sincerely, Todd Kleismit Ohio History Connection Director of Community & Government Relations

What are you watching?
I know this more of a TV thread, but we went to a screening of Warcraft last night. Perhaps it was because I was expecting silly fantasy rubbish, boy, was I surprised. A very good story line, amazing writing, excellent effects, awesome acting by a bunch of mostly no-names. I never played the game, but felt this script does its part to appeal to the fans of the game as well as those who never played. I came out thinking about the similarities to Star Wars Ep. IV: script, effects, no-name actors. It is completely set-up to be a great franchise.
