I don't think there are any inspector types for the drivers. But all of the cabs are inspected regularly. (define regularly!?!) You want to get rid of a bad driver? Gotta do it the same way you fire any employee... document, document, document. When you ride with a driver that is a problem, always get one or all of the following, name, hack number, cab number (prominently displayed on all sides of the cab), time of ride, pick up location, drop off location, fare, etc. The more information the better. Report it to the cab company, at least three times. Report it to the Mayor’s Action Center at 216-664-2900 and to Councilman Kevin Kelly, 216-664-2943. On your additional thought: you are 100% correct.

Most likely, but not exclusively. I think the planners and legislatures are playing catchup with the cell companies. There have been no "disguised" cell towers in Cleveland built as far as I know, but there are many hidden ones. Church steeples are a good example this, as are some old unused smoke stacks. As time goes on, I think we will see more and more communities take action on such things, but it won't do a thing for the towers that already exist.

Today's PD: (Or the long version of what KJP just said)

Easy - turn off the sound.
  5. This was on CBS News last week. I have heard about this type of thing but never saw any of the final towers. I like them. This is a great opportunity for communities that have special districts or zoning regulations that prohibit the towers but have residents that really want the service. (Question: Is there a way to embed UTube type videos in the forum?)

Question? Have you reported this driver? You should absolutely report it. More so now, since the city is trying to clean up the taxi cab image. Of course it will be diffifcult if you do not have the cab number, driver name, or any other identifiable information. Still, just knowing th cab company will help.

From the Hopkins Airport Thread - but more appropriate here: Guv, Try to get a regular cabbie. Even if they cannot get you due to being in the other part of town, they will call a fellow driver to get you. Here are some good drivers (I think they are still working): Gary - 216.410.5678 Jim - 216.390.5610 Mark - 216.973.8462 PJ - 216.533.6603 Like I said, if they cannot get to you, they will find somebody who will. Hope it helps.

You were had. Get a regular driver.
  9. You hit it all right on the nose except for number 7. She is always in front of the camera. For the past year, I have been letting her go behind the camera. If you're a gluten for cuteness: http://www.flickr.com/photos/muscatello/sets/663724/ I cannot say I feel any of you "mistake" babies pain. (Isn't the last baby the one that was a mistake?) I an the oldest of five. **************************** Anyway, back on topic: So, is it safe to assume there are no loose tickets to the special opening floating around?
  10. Mayday: You and her would get along great... maybe too great. MTS: Not even one for practice - you can have the 16 yo real cheap... hell, I'll pay you take him. On second thought, he might turn you off on the whole kid thing, so never mind. Wasn't there supposed to be some big private shindig at the Alley any day now, or is it in December?
  11. musky...man...when are you gonna move?! First you had physical apartment issues and know the connections to the apartment are going bad! Poor guy! It's all good. That's what happens when you have an 80 year old house... and 4 kids that like touch things that are not theirs to touch. Anyway, here are the pictures. The quality is not the best because I had to take them through the glass window (as opposed to the brick one???) and the windows have not been cleaned yet. Also, I notice the other day on Euclid one of the trolleys had an electronic scrolling advertisement at the front for the bowling alley. Then I saw all of trolleys have some sort of advertising on them for the alley (see last image). Has anyone else scene them? You have 4 kids?? WHOA!! I don't know you parents with more than one child do it! HATS OFF! Good pics. Loks like this place is going to be a lot of fun! 16 yo boy 14 yo girl 9 yo boy 7, going on 18 yo girl I don't know how I do it either - more so now then ever before. Anyone want to rent a kid or two for the holidays? They're killing me.

yet again, detroit's one step ahead of cleveland. Don't forget Oakland... and Arizona.
  19. ^This was in the PD today (although in the hardcopy, there was a note saying it was actually published on a different day - don't know when since the paper is long gone) EDIT: I found the paper version - "This story originally appeared in PDExtra, a special section of community news included with some editions of the Plain Dealer in October and November."

And a response from Bill Callahan: http://www.callahansclevelanddiary.com/?p=120 Here’s some of what the MJB document actually says about SYC’s likely impact: So… Dave’s will probably have to close a couple of (union) stores. (Elsewhere in the report, the Dave’s stores in Slavic Village and Stockyards are specifically mentioned as possible losers.) But maybe we’ll get a couple more (non-union, low-pay) Aldi’s or Sav-Mors (like the one that replaced the Tops on Clark), and maybe the Bi-Rites can convert themselves into convenience stores. Actual clothing stores like Fashion Cents and TNT will suffer, but don’t worry, we can still sell gangsta gear out of storefronts. Some small hardware stores might survive by selling less stuff for higher prices. Since the PD never seriously reported any predictions of an “all-encompassing blow to neighborhood retail districts that many feared” before SYC was a done deal, it’s hard to know what Perkins’ first sentence is referring to. But here’s what this blog had to say on the subject in 2005. (http://cleveland_diary.blogspot.com/2005/07/abandoning-neighborhood-retail-strips.html). As well as this about Dave’s (http://cleveland_diary.blogspot.com/2005/02/daves-supermarkets-vp-says-steelyard.html). And this about a proposed city policy to protect living-wage grocery jobs (http://cleveland_diary.blogspot.com/2005/02/steelyard-commons-hysteria.html). As far as I can see, MJB’s predictions presented yesterday to Council are not very different from mine. The PD’s cheery “See, it’s not as bad as people said” lead is nothing short of bizarre. The full report (done for Cleveland Neighborhood Development Corporation) apparently isn’t available yet, and the executive summary hasn’t been published or posted anywhere, but since it was given to City Council and the press in a public session, I’m going to assume it’s subject to fair use. So here’s the whole thing: Big-Box Centers and Neighborhood Business Districts (Executive Summary) http://mail2.visn.net/~bilcal/mjbreport.doc I strongly recommend that neighborhood activists take a careful look at the assessments and recommendations for individual neighborhoods. But please note: MJB does not address Brooklyn Centre or Stockyards as separate neighborhoods — they’re apparently lumped into Old Brooklyn and Clark-Fulton, respectively. Good stuff - although Mr Callahan has always seemed a little cranky to me.
