CLEVELAND - At the Clinic and it AIN'T pretty!
I am pretty sure this area is going to be the home of Star Research Building. It was approved by the Planning Commission almost a year ago. It was also the first meeting I reported on here (http://clevelandplanner.blogspot.com/2005/12/opportunity-cost-or-opportunity-lost.html). Not my first meeting, I have been going to them semi-regularly for about three years now I also reported about it in February of this year (http://clevelandplanner.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_clevelandplanner_archive.html) - toward the bottom

^Now I am told things will happen after the holidays, but not to the degree as previously eluded. I think the issue five lose has something to do with it.

Guv, Try to get a regular cabbie. Even if they cannot get you due to being in the other part of town, they will call a fellow driver to get you. Here are some good drivers (Ithink they are still working): Gary - 216.410.5678 Jim - 216.390.5610 Mark - 216-973-8462 PJ - 216.533.6603 Like I said, if they cannot get to you, they will find somebody who will.

I know there has not been much news on this front, "Showboat" Robinson has been on tour since the beginning of October. Also, the planners who have been working on the project have been busy (with school). Look for more info sometime in January. I have a connection with the Madison firm. I'll see if I can connect the two parties.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Good move for the area, although many will think it is adding another hassle to developers. I wonder if the Peter Lewis building would have been built the way it is if this board was in existence then? From the PD: University Circle open to suggestions Design review panel for district urged Saturday, November 18, 2006 Tom Breckenridge Plain Dealer Reporter University Circle, the arts-and-medicine district criticized for its closed-door planning, is ready for public scrutiny of its fast-growth future. The Cleveland Planning Commission recommended Friday that the city create a design-review body to oversee building in the 1-square-mile neighborhood... more at: http://www.cleveland.com

AP contacted the group to contribute to a story about giving, or social circles. At least two news sites picked it up. The Palm Beach Post(http://www.palmbeachpost.com/business/content/shared-gen/ap/Personal_Finance/On_the_Money.html), and the Seattle P.I., (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/1315AP_On_the_Money.html). But not the PD, of course.

Youngstown-Warren: Random Development and News
Seriously. That place is crazy. I have never seen so many furniture stores in one concentrated area in my life. And all the signs! For those who have never been there, think of Brookpark road aon a bad acid trip. Their zoning actually says any sign up to 200 sq ft can be erected as long as it is not offensive or immoral. I wish i had the picture one of my fellow student took of the giant Ambiance billboard, or Elmo's Bra and Girdle, or the giant neon Bud Light sign The historic district is nice and there is great potential if their one train track is vacated. The park was nice too.

Three Urban Ohio-ers were students who took part in this, including yours truly, but I do not go to Kent. All-in-all, it was a very interesting weekend... and there was way to much food. The architect that funded a big part of charrette sort of had his own ideas on how things should be (he is an architect after all) but making people aware of the possibilities - and seeing their faces light up as they 'saw the light' - was nice.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
At one point CSU was considering building a new bookstore there, but then the whole Student Center concept came up. CSU is currently not looking into this space at all. Although they are still considering a pedestrian link of some sorts - possibly through the parking lot next to the Court Reporter School - but for now, it is just talk.
