Cleveland-random venting
JDD, MTC, P99: All great ideas. I will remember them all - particularly asking them for a handout first. Usually, talking on a cell phone or just wearing headphones and dark sunglasses does it for me. When I use to drive the cab, I use to debrief all of the out-of-towners about who not to give money to. I told them the real homeless will usually not ask for money.

some striking soviet era architecture from the 1970s-1980's
Wow! Very cool. We would never have any buildings like this Cleveland today. Everyone would want them torn down so a new condensed government office building could be produced in its place.

This is semi-related as it has to do with Wolstein and might impact the Flats project: From Crain's:- Cleveland: District of Design
Experts designing a plan for downtown Cleveland Proposed district would link vital assets Sunday, October 22, 2006 Tom Breckenridge Plain Dealer Reporter The art and profit of industrial design could make Cleveland the "Milan of the Midwest," two experts say. They are pitching political and corporate leaders on the "Cleveland District of Design," a 24-block swath east of downtown that would parlay consumer-product design into an economic engine. Under the concept, national showrooms would sprout along Euclid Avenue, while a related cluster of consumer product makers, designers, marketers and researchers would spin off jobs and innovation... more at: http://www.cleveland.com- Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events

Anybody have news on this?- Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
I used to agree with much of the comments made in past few posts. But ever sense the change in leadership at the PD I feel the content, although not perfect (for example, why am I summarizing the findings of the planning commission in my blog instead of reading it in the paper, and why are Peanuts still being run in the comics), the articles have become much more urban core focused and not as negative.- Cleveland taxi cab stuff
From today's PD: Very interesting. Anybody I spoke with who currently, or used to work in the taxi business all assumed Yellow would get the contract. Yellow's refusal to upgrade their fleet with modern technology is their own fault though. Yesterday at the Cleveland Planning Commission, they passed a resolution that would allow for the the airport to enter into a contract with one cab company. When Chairman Coyne asked if a company had been picked, the answer was no.- Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
If Ruth Ratner Miller were still around, I think much of the negative comments on UO would be more positive. Ever since she went over to the other side, FC has been considered the bad guy. Re: VIP Event. Whom are considered VIP, (except the Ratners)?- Cleveland: Retail News
Ok, maybe this is the PWT in me talking again, but I would never pay more then five bucks for a pair a jeans. On that, what the WD needs is a Unique Thrift. They have good cheap worn jeans. :-D- Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments

There was a little article in this months issue of Land Lines from the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy http://www.lincolninst.edu/pubs/pub-detail.asp?id=1162 Nothing new. More of an ad for the movie then anything else- Cleveland: Cleveland State University News & Info

I just had a spreadsheet in my hands last week with preliminary numbers that showed there was actually in increase in foreign students this semester. I think it was the most ever. I'll have to look for it (but i think i threw it away). There are some interesting enrollment numbers here if you are into that sort of thing http://www.csuohio.edu/iraa/registration/fall_enrollF2.html- Cleveland: Cleveland State University News & Info
At its October meeting, the Faculty Senate unanimously approved two proposals. Senate members agreed that the University should offer a master’s degree in nonprofit administration and leadership that builds on a specialization now offered in the master of public administration degree. Housed in the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs, the interdisciplinary program would also involve the Nance College of Business and the School of Social Work. It would require a minimum of 39 credit hours. The proposal now must be submitted to the University’s board of trustees and the Ohio Board of Regents. Senate members also agreed to modify the minimum score requirement for passage of the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery from 85 to 77. Non-native English speakers use this test to prove their English language proficiency.- Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
And that is the magical question. The only people that know are god and FC... and god ain't talking. I suppose if the stars line up right Issue 3 and 18 will pass. This will give leverage to FC, et al for the new convention center to be built in conjunction with the Med Mart behind Tower City, and the construction of one casino on Scranton Peninsula and the other at Nautica. The new funding provided graciously by the smokers of the county will allow for the old convention center to be reused as the North Coast Hollywood. IMO WHAT?? IS THIS FACT OR YOUR WISH LIST?? THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL I WANT TO SEE THE CC BEHIND OR ATTACHED TO TOWERCITY. Can you answer my question? At the bottom of my first post I clearly typed "IMO" I just figured everyone would understand that it was "my opinion" That is all of the information I have on the subject. It must be the flashbacks from all of the time I spent in the Nine of Clubs which used to be in the currently located porn shop on West 6th Street. But I regress. BRING ON THE GAMBLERS!!!- Cleveland: Retail News
I'm telling you, the spot where the current porn shop is was a place called Nine of Clubs. One of the Dj's, Anjela Verdon (sp), then went to the flats and opened Aquilon/Lift/Millenium/Planet X/Whiskey/Smart Bar/etc. That is when the Nine became Alterhouse. When I came back to Cleveland from the Air Force in 1998ish, Nine of Clubs was still there. I do not remember when Alterhouse took over and shut down to become the current porn shop. You can read more about it at these two sites: http://www.tikibars.net/writings/nineofclubs.html http://www.nineofclubbers.com/ And that is that, the end! This has gone off topic long enough. Sorry I brought it up. Anyone buy jeans yet?- Cleveland: Retail News

Anybody remember what used to be there before the porn shop? Alterhouse! Nine-of-Clubs! Whooo, those were some good times!- Cleveland: Port Authority News & Info
I found this on the Port of Cleveland site. Their 2010 Maritime Facilities Plan calls for the build out of the area now occupied by Wendy Park. We already know this plan is obsolete. The second picture is from the current Waterfront Plan that shows the proposed island around the same area where the article says the feds want to build (as briefly mentioned in the article). I called the reporter to ask about the Port relocation and left a message, - Cleveland: Flats East Bank
