Cleveland: Cleveland State University News & Info
It didn't feel right posting this in the Projects & Construction thread. If the general consensus is all CSU discussion should stay in one thread, then "so let it be written... so let it be done." From Crain's: CSU restructures safety forces By SHANNON MORTLAND 8:44 am, October 12, 2006 Cleveland State University is restructuring its safety and security departments in an effort to make the campus a safer place at all hours of the day. Beginning Jan. 1, the police, fire safety and security, and environmental health and safety departments will be combined to form CSU’s new Division of Campus Safety. All of those departments then will be overseen by the executive director of campus safety and the assistant director of campus safety/police commander, two new positions that will be filled over the next couple months. The chief of police position will be eliminated on Dec. 31. The new directors will decide how to structure the security staff, said John Boyle, CSU’s vice president for business affairs and finance. In late winter, they likely will hire up to eight people to create an in-house security staff that will report to the CSU police department, which now has 20 armed officers patrolling the campus. CSU currently contracts with Tenable Protective Services Inc. to provide four unarmed security officers on weekends at the residence halls, he said. That contract will remain in place for now, Mr. Boyle said. CSU is pushing to transform its campus from one that caters to commuters to a residential university, which will lead to having more people on campus at all hours of the day. Having a better security structure can only help that initiative, Mr. Boyle said. “By creating an organizational structure to support the participation by the students, faculty, staff and the community in campus activities and student life during the day, evening and overnight, we hope to encourage and promote campus vitality,” he said.

Cleveland Press to Digitize Past Articles and Make them Available For Free
In the CSU library, you can go through the filing drawers to look up the actual articles from the Cleveland Press. They are categorized by subject. A few years back I did a paper on Public Square. I had a a folders worth of articles that they let me photocopy that went dated from the 30's to before it closure.

My favorite "urban" piece from The Onion was from August 2005: City Councilman Unearths Magical Zoning Amulet I posted it on my blog here: http://clevelandplanner.blogspot.com/2005/12/city-councilman-unearths-magical.html

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
:? You have just described half of the buildings downtown - tear them all down in that case, and start with city hall. Many would say the outside is ugly with its overuse of Beaux Arts design - its all over the world for pete's sake. And that bland color of stone - very depressing. Those fake columns are absolutely brutal. Have you seen the side door near the mall? It's so dirty they don't allow you to use it except for an emergency. Talk about dismal, hang out in the sub-basement for a few minutes. Who is this Milton Dyer guy that was architect anyway? The only other works he ever did were the (Encyclopedia of Cleveland History) This place is so non-functional. Many of the plugs and lights do not work. The elevators are always breaking down. If there were ever a fire in the attic, all of the city's planning history would be forever lost. Yes you are right punch, tear down everything that falls into these categories. Glutmax - well said!

I just heard on the news tonight (wkyc) the judge ruled all of the cases could be heard at one time instead of eight separate cases. Not sure if that will be bad or good, but my gut tells me it is good

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
I will do what I can in my lowly position. In other news, you may recall the Law Building received a chunk of change from the Wolsteins for some redecorating. Well, the first conceptuals have come in that shows what the Euclid side of the building might look like in the next year or so. First, what it looks like now. Next, two possibilities.

As was alluded to in a previous post - it was done when they tried to pave Shaker Lakes, it can be done now. More so when the elections are over.

You can make out the same gold color through the scaffold in the first picture. That will be impressive when complete.
