  1. Its all about the money. I just went through the GS website to look at their past projects. They have an extensive list of educational facility design, but they do not have many that take the urban core into context (except for the project in Buffalo). I am not impressed with what they have. Not inspiring at all.
  2. I agree as well. There is one problem, however, with a competition for CSU. The city has no say in the design of any of the buildings. It is handled through the state. (Same with the public school system and their lack of LEED design standards) The only reason CSU ever presents new construction to the City Hall is out of respect - for lack of a better word. At least all new construction on campus will be at least LEED Gold. I have been selected to represent the students (with one other person) on the design board. I will do my best to forward any concepts to UO for comment. I have come to appreciate most of the forumer's opinions. (I'll leave that be)
  3. Very nice. Imagine what it will look like when it is lit up.
  4. Well, Ok. Just use the super lens instead of the super duper one.
  5. I was talking with one of the consultants on the project last night. Specifically regarding the deign standards in relation to the lack of in North Olmsted and the relatively ornate in Crocker Park. He said the residents in NO overwhelming want the design standards for the NO portion of the extension to resemble CP as opposed to the standard stuff in NO. I find it interesting that the residents preferred to have a connection with another city's image instead of creating their own.
  6. If the top of the tower is any indication of what the rest will look like when the refurbishing is complete, then we are in for a treat and it will be worth the wait. On my way to class this evening, I drove up Ontario until Prospect. When I looked up to see the top of the tower, it was a bright golden color. Not metallic gold, but more like a golden yellow. Very classic looking. I am sure somebody with more talent can then I can use their super-duper telephoto lens to take a decent picture. Mayday?
  7. The article implies the president wants it on a building, but the talk I am hearing in the office is saying they are looking to place it on the southwest corner of the Wolstein Center. At 150' in height, I am not sure how 'good' that will look. On my list of things to do (page 12) is to photoshop the screw in that location. I will post when complete.
  8. I was there yesterday and did not see it. But I will try again.
  9. First I heard about this. Intersting - I can't imagine what building they would put it on. From today's PD:
  10. Formerly known as West Boulevard Heights. The highest portion of west Cleveland during that time. There is a very cool poster at City Hall (Planning Commission) promoting the latest in technological advances for this area including electricity and running water. Anyway, great article!!
  11. KENT Studio Update from 9/27: I'm not sure this is how the locals think about Public Square when it comes to strategies.
  12. ^Besides, she's not in the closet. :-D
  13. Try taking a class with them.

  16. You're right. they do. The last one I used to work at (Champps Americana in Lyndhurst) used to have counter beside the kitchen and I have worked at various other places that had tables. I guess I was picturing the table adjacent to the kitchen/prep area and the cooks handing over a spoon of whatever for the guest to taste... kind of like how Emeril used to do on his show. (I say used to because I have not watched it in a couple of years)
  17. Kent State University's CUDC Fall 2006 Graduate Studio project involves Public Square. They have a blog that updates the project. It is located here: http://publicsquarestudio.blogspot.com Their first post from August: I take a couple of classes with some of the Kent students. I look forward to what they produce.
  18. I don't know if this has been done before to this extent, but it is the first I've heard of it. Kind of a play off of the diner experience, but with a twist. What an excellent idea.

Holy crap... they're going to blow that thing up. I think there are some animals that are not going to be to happy with that. No wonder this firm's bid was the lowest. Implosion is likely much less expensive then dismantling. Or is it? From WTAM: (edit) I think that is supposed to read 2009, not 2006... unless they can go back in time - which would be pretty cool.
  20. Judge hears eminent domain arguments 2:56 p.m. Cuyahoga County Probate Court Judge John E. Corrigan heard arguments Monday on a request to consolidate 14 lawsuits involving eminent domain in Cleveland’s Flats said he expects to make a decision soon. The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority filed the cases in May and June after property owners refused to sell to make way for developer Scott Wolstein’s redevelopment plans for the area. Over time, I will share plenty of stories. I drove a cab for almost four years.
