  1. That's it! That wasn't supposed to be published for another week though. Still - good news. What was not covered in the article (or only eluded to): The Cleveland Cliffs grant does release federal money that has been earmarked for the bridge but need a local match. That is $5 million for the bridge and the remainder for repairs to the bulkhead and other capital improvements, including reconfiguring the turn-around around area north of the science center. The RRHoF and the SC are in discussions to build an addition between the two institutes that will help the hall with its parking issues by letting visitors in the science centers garage access the hall directly. There may also be space for shops and/or a national restaurant. All this plus DCA is putting together a grant request to the Cleveland Foundation that will help with programing of Winch Park.
  2. Excuse my premature blabbing, but I can no longer hold this in. Well, I really can... but I'll give you some vague info. Within a month, there will be a major announcement from one of the institutions regarding a formal partnership, new construction, the release of federal transportation money, and the moving of GT3. Very exciting stuff.
  3. Rob from Zen Salon on Lorain is purchasing the Fashion Shop (?) next to the bank on bridge. This will allow him to increase his business space from the current 3,000 sq ft of usable space to 7,000 sq ft, not including the roof which he will eventually use. He is going to completely gut the building. I do not know what his architect plans to do with the outside. The sale is still pending, but should be final by October Construction will take a year.

I've got good news and bad news. Cleveland has one property on the new Here and Now Monopoly game board. The bad news... Jacobs Field has replaced Baltic Avenue. It cost $600,000 to purchase. Rent is $20,000 with no structure. With a hotel it jumps to $2,500,000. http://www.hasbro.com/monopoly/default.cfm?page=HNViewBoard Screenshot -
  8. I think the Cleveland Visitors/Convention thingy (not official name - i just ate a whole of spree candy and i cannot think straight) organization is moving there
  9. Cool That was pleasent to read.
  10. I like Marc's. But then again, I'm PWT. I have been seeing a lot of press lately for Macy's, including something about their famous parade memorabilia coming to Great Northern. I wonder what the chances are of having somebody like them (or other Federated stores) moving into the remainder of the Higbee's building, or even May Co?

Their is also a public open house coming up Wednesday September 13 from 4:00 to 8:00 (formal presentation starts at 6:30) at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Tremont The flier I received in the mail specifically states discussion will be centered around the central viaduct and the bridge type selection process. There will be displays nd the public can be brainwashed discuss one-on-one with the design team members. They're even going to let you offer your opinion. I will not be able to be there for the presentation portion, but I will stop in for the open house part before I go to class.

From the Sunday PD: http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/plaindealer/steven_litt/index.ssf?/base/entertainment/115718644642370.xml&coll=2 New Rec Center makes CSU more student-friendly Sunday, September 03, 2006 Steven Litt Plain Dealer Architecture Critic Cleveland State University President Michael Schwartz readily admits he wants to change the culture of his institution through architecture. "This place has always done a great job with education, but in terms of being a place that was student-friendly, this wasn't it," he said Monday, just before the ribbon-cutting for the university's new, $29.5 million Recreation Center. "It was like a place surrounded by a moat, and every spring, they brought in fresh alligators."...

Looks like WTAM beat the other news outfits on this one. I can't wait to see the final designs on this. It should pretty nice. HEY! ODOT! This is the way to keep the public involved in a project. (even if it is going to result in the taking of portions of some residents property) http://www.wtam.com/cc-common/news/sections/newsarticle.html?feed=122520&article=513572 Notice: The Fulton Road Bridge website has not been updated in quite some time - but it does have nice renderings. In July, i took some photos of the crumbly bridge which you can see here: http://dashboardcamera.blogspot.com/2006/07/fulton-road-bridge.html
