Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
I did not mean to imply that Parkworks was not involved, and I apologize if the previous post left people confused. The Planning Commission was just encouraging ResSq to get more involved with the park and perhaps get the ball moving again. Now that I am home, I am looking at my notes from the meeting on August 4 (which I never summarized in my blog because I am lazy - but I still might). On the agenda was the streetscape improvement plan. This was a continuation of the plan presented on May 19 - item number DRC 06-031 (and reported here: http://clevelandplanner.blogspot.com/2006/05/cleveland-planning-commission-report.html). In my notes, I have written the - previously mentioned in this thread - discussion the developers were having with Arabica coming to the building. They mentioned that Avis would be joining the tenant list and that the commercial portion of the building is 100% filled. In regards to the streetscape plan, the only notes I have are about the center median being removed, the parking on the street will be angled and the discussion regarding Perk Park. The Planning Commission approved the streetscape plan with accommodations

You mean like this: I like this part, too. I always thought they could have torn down the actual "cage" portion and rebuilt there. They could have enclosed the wedge with a new "cage" like atrium and bring it closer to the street edge. The problem with rehabbing the building was it would cost as much, possibly more to do that then to build new. The building was built to solid. That time in architecture was known for the bunker mentality and this building would absolutely hold up if a war were brought to the streets of Cleveland.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
The last time the street was brought before the Planning Commission (Reserve Square - July), they showed rendering with the median between Chester and Superior removed. That is when the commission encouraged the Reserve Square folks to take leadership in the much delayed renovation of Perk Park.

KJP, The two bridges that were recently erected for the rec center (Rec to COE & Rec to Parking) were both designed specifically for the project, assembled off site and delivered whole. However, the PM told me that there were prefabricated models available. They were not used because there would have been to many alterations needed and the cost would have ended up the same.

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
^If the feds do not approve ODOTs plan, then they will have no choice but to redo things. I was wondering about the construction of I90 in the 80s. There was to be an interchange at West 65th street, but the residents put up a fight and it was never built. The same things happened for the original layout the West Shoreway (which was to run along the shoreline west until Rocky River, then travel south to the airport.) and the Clark Freeway (which would have cut through the Shaker lakes area). How was it that residents were able to stop the state then, but we cannot now? Politics?

Mayor Jackson and development in Cleveland
^That might be the plan. Look at how many former Campbell staff members now work for him at UCI. I would probably vote for him.

Howe may "look" like it's getting together on the outside, but the inside is a mess. They did get the new windows up. At this rate, I will be surprised to see it finished by spring. But then again, they pulled off Fenn.

Intel imagines wireless Cleveland
Any news regarding anything here, or does Cleveland remain wireless-less? (Except for the the few people who work in City hall with their fancy internet phones and data machines)

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
Raze it or reuse it: County hears yet another option for office tower Friday, August 25, 2006 Tom Breckenridge Plain Dealer Reporter A tough decision for Cuyahoga County commissioners just got tougher, with an architectural team suggesting the county could save big bucks by reusing an aging downtown office tower instead of razing it. Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
1 = agree with previously made comments; cannot tell what the design is suggesting by the image presented 2 = Looks like one of the Progressive Insurance buildings along the I-271 corridor 3 = interesting. Depending on the materials used, it could work. 4 = :? 5 = The perspective seems off. It's like one of those car ads that show you some weird angle and you cannot tell what it really looks like. 6 = Based only on the renderings presented, this would be the best. It is unique. East 9th will benefit from it. Needs work on the street level of Euclid. The question I have now: WHERE ARE ALL OF THE SUPPOSED WINDMILLS!!

That makes sense. Thanks. Here is a shot from today in front of the Urban Affairs building.

I am very sad. But I am intrigued as well.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
They have most of the curb work done on the western portion of CSU. I recall somebody saying (me) that they would be done with the northern half of Euclid around Labor Day. I don't think it's going to happen.

Cleveland-Akron: Bicycling Developments and News
They're supposed to all be up by the fall. The city held a design competition a few years back. I think one of the winners was the bike rack by the downtown Winking Lizard. There were other winners, but I seem to recall that the city needed sponsors to pay for the artist for the manufacturing. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
