Mine is a picture I took of the old Federal Court House in Cleveland at the opening night of the first iNGENUiTY festival. I had a really crappy 1.5mp camera, but I think the graininess adds to the picture.
  2. You are kidding, right. There is no way in blue hell that this is anywhere near what the building would look. I do recall stating that this is a "Draft Planning Study." And besides, this was my vary first building I ever, EVER "designed." Ok, I'm done being defensive. You make a valid point. I would hope that when it comes time to pick an Architect, they pick somebody that will create another world class building... or at least the hall and museum portion of it. I promise, when I create the next rendering for the new, yet to be disclosed site, it will not look like something that might be in Brunswick. :speech:
  3. High Schools in Cleveland play their Senate championships at Gund Arena/CSU/The Jake...If im not mistaken. I recall this "community" involvement being key to the the cavs and indians (as well as CSU) giving back to the community. Thank you. I like the idea of locating/relocating inter-city competitions at the facility. I will pass this info on. I was driving westbound on the Shoreway yesterday and noticed the 3 on 3 B-ball competition that used to be held in the Powerhouse parking lot has been moved to the Muny parking lot. What a crappy place to hold the event. I can see something like this being held at the new facility. I know for a fact that although the a major part of the Hall will be focusing on the museum, Mr. Robinson very much wants to have a community center feel to the facility. If a swimming, basketball, baseball, etc component is included in the final product, it will always be open to the community.
  4. TY BTW, if everyone here is going to be part of my "focus group" then you should have access to the study. You can dowmload a draft version of it here: http://urban.csuohio.edu/~csuapa/aasmhof/Microsoft_PowerPoint_-_Copy_of_AfAM_Museum_Final_Big.pdf The pdf is about 12mb You can also check out the website here: http://www.perciccreative.com/museum Your comments are appreciated. 5. SP is one of 5 sites being considered right now for a major new year-round cultural attraction. As is the Norfolk-Southern site by the innerbelt and the properties around the soon to be demoed Independent Towel Company. (stay tuned) If this proposal pans out, then having the convention/mart at FC may be beneficial for everyone in the immediate area. This will not bode well for the lakefront in terms of touristy things, but will still keep the area more residentially friendly. Of course, it still leaves to question what will become of the old CC. See: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=9965.0
  6. In this weeks Sun News: Thanks KJP There has been a a couple of changes already since this article was published. More on that as details develop. I can say that none of the sites previously studied are likely to be in the running. A new site will be the focus of the next phase. Consider yourselfs part of the focus group. Here are some renderings I made.
  7. Took a stroll down Euclid this week and saw that the Corner Bowling Alley construction doors were wide open... and not a soul to be seen.
  8. As did I. Crap. I was in Erieview Tower on Friday and took this cool pic - if that makes you feel better.
  9. I was walking along Euclid yesterday myself. I wanted to see what was under those blue tarps. Lots of pipes (see below) Also, construction crews are removing asphalt from the theater area. I took a picture of something that looks like old trolley rails. I saw similar rails along State Avenue when they did a complete reconstruction a few years ago.
  10. I wold have to say my own: Cleveland vs. The World http://clevelandplanner.blogspot.com/, and, View from the Dashboard http://dashboardcamera.blogspot.com/. Seriously, one of the best places to go for news of things happening around the county (except for here, of course) is the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission Weblog http://planning.co.cuyahoga.oh.us/blog/ I also regularly read these (to lazy to copy and paste all of the url's): * Brewed Fresh Daily * Callahan's Cleveland Diary * Cleveland History Blog * Cuyahoga County Planning Commission Weblog * Entrepreneurs for Sustainability News * GreenCityBlueLake * REALNEO * Virtual Levin * American Planning Association * BoomtownUSA by Jack Schultz * Citistates Group * CoolTown Studios * Demographia * New (sub)Urbanism * Planning Livable Communities * Smart Communities * theboxtank * Urban Planning Research * Visioning the Future of Our Neighborhoods * Magical Urbanism * Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space * Satan's Laundromat * Smart Mobs
  11. agh :x You beat me to it. I just got this from my friend after I asked about it
  12. The area CDC is in the begginings of a master plan. It was put on hold for last years council elections and because the Old Brooklyn Neighborhood Services and the CDC for the Denison-Archwood neighborhood merged. Also, the July 7 Cleveland Planning Commission accepted a grant from Northeast Ohio Area Coordinating Agency for the Transportation for Livable Communities Initiative Program. (As I reported on my blog, here: http://clevelandplanner.blogspot.com/2006/07/july-7-2006-summary-of-cleveland.html)
  13. Think about what a cc is for... only a cc (maybe a hotel and restr). Who are the users? Mostly people from out of town. If we build just a cc at the current location, the new one will probably expand the amount of visitors by a sizable amount - but they will only come during the normal (Cleveland normal) convention season. If we are to include civic functionality to the center, then we have slightly more visitors plus a significant amount of local/regional visitors. By civic functionality, I am talking about many of the amenities previously mentioned in this thread such as physical recreation, daycare, etc. Now look at TC. If we build only a new cc there, what will be the difference in out-of-town visitors? I think that the numbers would likely be the same as for a cc only in the current location, but still higher then the numbers are now. Next, add the civic functions - what do you get? Again, I argue the same results as if we were to build cc/civic in the current location. What does the current location have that TC does not have? Historic location, room to grow, access to the lake, to name a few. Some arguably good things. What does tower city have the current location does not. Most significantly - location. Regardless of how you feel about the quality of the place, it is in an excellent location. This location is central and is screaming transportation hub. You have the airport connection, the freeways, the established parking (although I would argue the less parking, the better - San Fran's Moscone Center has no parking at all. There are two private structures near by.) Coming soon you have the Towpath Trail and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. The only mode of transportation that has not been discussed, but could work, is by water. (Even Pittsburgh has those duck/tour-bus things) There is one thing that has come up a few times in this thread - the convetion season. With the TC site, our season grows from the current 7 months (source: city hall) to at least 10. That is because we can have visitors who will not have to worry about stepping outside in the elements. The argument against this is there will be no people on the streets. Come on! Has anybody gone to any city for a convention/conference and never set a foot outside - even in the most crappy weather? I've been to many places for conferences and no matter what the weather is, I have gone out and explored. (I know I am not Joe-conventionerre, nor do I claim to be.) This is what all cities deal with, wether you are in Vegas, or Gary, Indiana. Taking into consideration the previous claims, assuming that we will build a center that will have some civic functions incorporated into the center, and assuming that money is not an issue (also assuming the current cc will be used for something useful - oh, and that emotions are not part of the equation), I feel the choice is simple... but that's just me. As much as my "sentimentality" has me leaning to the current location, this VERY BASIC analysis has convinced me that FC/TC is the right choice. I think this is the most I ever typed this summer - it must be the Chagrin Falls air
  14. Seriously... a death spiral? You've got tot be kidding. Is he over generalizing, or am I misinterpreting this statement?

Saw this on ESPN - but from the Akron Beacon Journal The article has a picture of his birth certificate. Interesting that there is no name in the father part. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=LeBronAge&lpos=spotlight&lid
