  1. Now things are gonna get really interesting
  2. Yes, the general public will be able to purchase memberships. I do not know how much they will cost, but I can ask around. Students (full/part time) have free membership. Well, free as in it is already part of the general fee in your (your wife's) tuition.
  3. The only reason the building is still around is because it is on the City of Cleveland's Landmark list. However, it is likely the building will not stand for long. The only way the building could be used is if it is completely gutted. I think somebody could at least save the face of the building and work it in some new construction - like the school on Detroit in Lakewood, or Motorcars Dealership in Cleveland Heights (they used the face of the old city hall for their new building). It is currently not on any list of projects that will require it to come down. The University "officially" does not know what to do with it. It will likely still be used by Cleveland Public Schoolsfor the foreseeable future. If/when it is torn down, there will never, ever be another building on Euclid that is setback 60 feet, they do not do things like that anymore

Got this in the mail yesterday. I hate when I'm told of meeting at the last minute.
  5. Here is a funny video from Seattle to promote the Waterfront Tunnel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEqjbzUxlyI
  6. Thanks for posting the article. Nobody in the Architects office knew an article was being written. Not that great of an article for Crain's, but at least it is more then the PD has written in a while. I havn't posted any Rec Center pics in a while, so here you go.
  7. There is a bikeway plan here: http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/cwp/bikepath.htm And a decent map here: (2mb) http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/cwp/bike/mbp.pdf The County's Greenspace Plan can be found here: http://planning.co.cuyahoga.oh.us/green/ With a 19 section detailed map here: http://planning.co.cuyahoga.oh.us/green/greenprint.html
  8. It was nice to meet everyone, too. Sorry I had to book out early, musky jr. was getting tired of walking and was pretty sure he had an appointment with his bicycle in the afternoon. I almost had him convinced to go the east side just for the train ride, but after lunch he changed his mind.

I'm just gonna post pictures of the tower until either somebody makes me stop, or we all agree that it needs to be saved. :-P

Hmmm, the candidate could get hired with just a bachelors degree. This limits the field.
  11. From the Mayor's office:

I drove by SYC over the weekend (after the subway tour) to take some dashboartd photos for my photoblog. They have most of the Streetlights and curb work done and have moved the piling(?) work over to the Dick's and Home Depot parcels. I am lazy and do not want to post them all here. If you want to see the rest, you have to go here: http://dashboardcamera.blogspot.com/ Lights and curbs From the eastern side. From the western side.

I went to the subway tour Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Bridge and see that at least two more stories were added since the previous photo last week... just like that. Taken from the under the middle span Taken from an observation point at the eastern end of the middle span - an observation point. One of the only places the county allowed visitors to walk up to the edge.
  14. I will be there, most likely.
  15. [glow=red,2,300][shadow=green,left]What about this one?[/shadow][/glow] Actually, I'm still learning how a lot of these little extras work. I could probably just go through the help/beginners section for that, but I like the trial and error method. My 8yr old son is going to the soccer game tonight with his grandparents. I tried to get him to take the camera, but he did not want to.
  16. Oh, looky there. It's actually used a tad bit more then ten times a year. :-P From the PD
  17. They can not build on the land where the proposed parking is because of the sewer line. And since there is a humongous recreation center on the other side of the freeway that has to much land and not enough programing, why create more? Although, the freeway is a barrier, and it is unlikely many people in the heart of the Stockyard neighborhood actually go to Zone.
  18. Notes from last weeks Planning Commssion Meeting Conceptual approval sought for the West Side Relief High School DRC 06-038: N.E. Corner of West 65th Street and Clark Avenue, West Side Relief High School, New Construction This is a conceptual review with no action required. Richard Bowen and Associates, and OWP/P presented the proposed West Side Relief High School. The two-story building that will house approximately 1200 students and 60 +/- faculty/staff members for grades 9 through 12. There will be 33 general studies classrooms, 1 competition gym and 1 practice gym. The building will consist of three small high schools within one building. That equals roughly 412 students per school. There will be parking available for 189 students. Visitors and staff will have 112 parking spaces. There will be a GCRTA drop off area on West 65th Street, west of the building, although there has not been any discussion with them as of yet. There is also a football practice field proposed for the eastern edge of the property. This will require the relocation of some of the roads currently located there. Apparently, a major sewer line runs under the current location of Walworth Avenue that prohibits any construction directly above it. Walworth will be relocated to the intersection of West 59th Street and run south until it hits the railroad tracks. From there, it will connect with the schools staff parking lot. There is proposed to be a large turnaround area for trucks that will not be able to enter the relocated Walworth. Instead, all truck traffic will only use the West 55th Street location. The face of the buildings will likely be made of brick, representing the make-up of the buildings in the area. (The conceptual renderings do not show this.) Most of the land has been acquired already. The commission’s major concern was the linkage from the school to Zone Recreation Center under I-90. They suggested the school district work with the city and other partners to address this area. One additional concern was the northern edge of the property that is adjacent with I-90. The architects said they are still working on that area of land.
  19. I should know this, but the cold meds are making me cloudy. I believe the restructuring of the Main Avenue Bridge was part of the Waterfront Plan. Of course, being part of a plan does not mean it's happening... particularly if ODOT is involved. However, the city could use the innerbelt craziness as leverage to have something done with with the WD portion of the Innerbelt. The more I think of it, I know there was significant discussion about that part of the bridge during the Lakefront Plan Advisory Committee meetings... I just don't recall if it made it in the plan.
  20. Wheeeew, I though it was the Greyhound logo for a moment
  21. According to Mark Price, owner of Reserve Square, Perk Plazahas been designed but is waiting for funding. Maybe the Metropark system should just take over all of Cleveland's parks. :-P You can see a lovely picture of the couple here: http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=150165551&size=m And a picture of the happy couple receiving well wishes form Mayor Jackson here: http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=150165443&size=m photos by mistersugar, friend of Joe
  22. ^Well, there was the big wedding to plan for this past weekend.
  23. Yes, that is the plan. for now. However, that is something that is in the long term. There are currently no studies happening. The current ground floor space will be converted to the offices that will be relocated from the current student center. This will include new stairwells and updated wiring and fire suppresion systems. The classrooms that are there now will be gone. The Greenway will "run through" the building. How? I do not know. This image is part of the programing study. It shows what offices will be located in the this new space.
  24. Well, one possibility is something like this conception that is currently in the planning stage. Here is the existing and the proposed
  25. ***UPDATE*** The "side letter agreement" is a letter that pertains to action already taken in a previous meeting. Sort of an addendum. This particular letter contained wordage regarding the right of way for the Euclid Corridor and Transit Center, some issues of cost, and possible extension of hours of operation for the campus and the possible new transit riders/students that will use RTA services. The next Board of Trustees meeting is on June 16. The meeting this past Friday was a special meeting. The next one is a regularly scheduled meeting and will likely address/give the green light for upcoming projects including: *College of Education *Transit Center *Diving Pavilion *Doan Electric conversion study *Gas station at 22nd and Payne *College town *Law Building renovation *Main classroom infill *Student Center *New bonds (aprox $30 mil)
