  1. The SEIU building (and the gas station on the corner - which has not been approved for purchase yet) will become the home of a new baseball diamond. There were plans to have the CSU baseball teams to play at a reconstructed League Park, but I guess that fell through. I do not know what a "side letter agreement" is. I have been asking around myself. The Transit Center is still in the preliminary planning phases. My contact at GCRTA says they are working on it still. No action was taken on the College of Education, either.
  2. SUMMARY OF THE SPECIAL BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING – May 19, 2006 Major Actions Taken: 1. Passed a resolution as a memorial tribute to former CSU trustee and alumnus Gerald H. Gordon, who served on the Board of Trustees from January 1984 to May 1992, and subsequently on the Ohio Board of Regents. 2. Passed a resolution in recognition of Trustee and Cleveland-Marshall College of Law alumnus Michael L. Climaco for nine years of distinguished service on the Cleveland State University Board of Trustees. 3. Adopted the charge or function of the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees. 4. Accepted Gifts totaling $1,130,166 and Sponsored Programs funds totaling $4,270,475 received by the Cleveland State University Foundation and Cleveland State University during the period January 1, 2006 to March 31, 2006; and directed the President to use these Gifts and Sponsored Programs funds, subject to their terms and conditions. 5. Approved with regret, a tuition increase of 6% for undergraduate students, 7.46 % for graduate students, and 7.11% for Law students, and special programs with various rates, effective Fall 2006, in light of projected reductions in State appropriations and enrollment. 6. Authorized the proposed purchase of the SEIU Building, located at 1735 East 23 Street, for $450,000, subject to receipt of all required environmental reports and resolution of identified environmental issues. 7. Authorized a Side Letter Agreement with the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, subject to the subsequent approval of the Permanent Right of Way and Use Easements pertaining to the Euclid Corridor Project. 8. Approved the proposed FY 2007 allocation of the Cleveland-Marshall Fund Income projected to be $251,073 as of June 30, 2006. 9. Passed a resolution in support of the City of Cleveland and local leadership’s efforts to bring the Republican National Convention to the City of Cleveland in 2008.
  3. [move]***Overheard at the end of the Planning Commission Meeting***[/move] Steve Litt was at the meeting. Tom Breckenridge introduced him to Corna. As I was leaving, Steve told congratulated him and told him before he moves much more on promoting this, he should find out if any proposed towers holding up the retractable roof will fall within the glide path of Burke. I just though that was interesting, and diffidently something that needs to be considered since the flight path is why the R&R Hall of Fame, and the new wind turbine at the GLSC are the heights they are.

No word on any final results on the website. We have to wait until summer for results. However, we know now that Boardwalk will no longer be in he game From CNN:

I agree (unless my wife has anything to say about it - then we will go drive a bit further then needed to buy something that is on sale, then purchase a whole bunch of that item) I' am so very excited about this project. It's not just the planner in me that takes pleasure in seeing construction in the city. If I were not involved in planning, I would still be excited. Just think, I will never have to leave the city again for purchases. Between SYC and the Ryser project on West 117th (is there a name for that yet?), everything will be within five minutes of my house. No more suburban malls for me (except to take my kids to build-a-bear in Southpark Mall... for now, anyway). Now, if they could just get an IKEA there..... http://www.verybigdesign.com/ikea/
  6. Of course, that will not matter if the convention center no longer exists in the current location... but who am I kidding, that decision may never come.

On Friday I noticed cranes working on the pilings for what I believe is the Target location, and there was some significant curb work completed on the southern end. There is an updated lease plan that shows confirmed and still proposed tenants and there locations here: http://www.steelyardcommons.com/pdf/syc-p21%20Goodman%20Logos%20120105.pdf

  9. I've been holding off on this thread for a while, but now is the time. I'm not sure I would want to see another one, but I like it. The jury is still out on the second one. But after seeing them together in the previous renderings, I feel it would be a nice compliment. I love the way windows all pay respect to the rotunda... almost like they are bowing down to it. I also love the portal on the southern portion of the top of the building. I don't know the significance of it, or if it is an original idea, but I like the way it breaks up the top of the building. The one part of the building I do have a problem with is the East 9th Street entrance. Not because of the way it looks, but because it is hard to see. I wish they were more visible. The windows are broken up with Mondrian-type geometric pattern. Very Partridge familyesque (that's a technical term). This is one of my favorite buildings in the city. I have a real problem with tearing down buildings that are not liked because they are out of style. This includes the CSU Student Center. (off topic rant for a moment: I know the building as a whole is ugly and a little over the top with it's fortress-like image, but that is what the style was back then. They could have bombed the hell out of the cage and the office areas of the student center, but they should have worked the wedge-like entrance into the new structure. Possibly enclosing it and bringing the edge to the street. Any way...) I don't know if this is just me, but when I look at the tower, I think of Planet of the Apes. Its probably just me.
  10. From the City Wheels site. http://www.citywheelscleveland.com/
  11. This is really good news. Its already been said, but that building has always been one of my favorites, too. (Right next to the Ameritrust Tower. :-D) It makes me think of something one might see on the edge of Central Park for some reason - don't know why. When I used to drive the cab, I would occasionally get a ride asking where they could get "hooked-up." I always took them here, dropped them off and then left. I'm glad there will be none of that anymore. Next up - the parking lot across the street.
  12. Don't know why the other thread was locked. Feel free to merge Corna is speaking with the city council planning committee today. There is also a web site with a petition that can be downloaded. It is to start petitioning the NFL for the 50th Anniversary of the Super Bowl on condition that there is a dome. http://www.superbowlforcleveland.com/
  13. That is nice. When was the article written? I looked online and could not find it. If you have a clean copy, could you post it? The drawing looks a bit like the Derf comics.
  14. Finally! It was supposed to be up in November.

Of course for the non-believers the "tab" does not break off and the banana squishes (that is the technical term) in your hand.
  16. Perhaps you could supplement your income with an adjunct position at the College of Urban Affairs. They are currently looking to offer more transportation related classes. (off topic discussion complete)

I am very intrigued at what the Wolstein response will be. I have no gut feeling on how this will play out.
  19. The f'ed up traffic circle may be leaving us as well in the next few years. I vote for more Roundabouts (modern traffic circles)... but that's a different thread

He could always have phase 2 across the tracks to the north, or make District Park phase 2, no?
  21. LOL! Here's your sign for the extension: Really though, I've always hoped for some kind of unique transit connector from downtown to the zoo. If I remember, I read somewhere that the bridge over the zoo is going to be either revamped or radically redesigned. With that and the whisperings of transit investment, I wonder how soon potential urban building investors will start sizing up properties on West 25th. That is freaking hilarious
  22. I am all for this. We can call it the Pink Flamingo Line. Seriously, this is a very busy corridor. The Old Brooklyn Neighborhood Services (OBNS) was begining plans last year (before the election) on a master plan for the neighbohood and identified the corridor, particularly the area where Pearl, State and Brodview meet, as an area that has the potential for explosive growth. Once the Tow Pat Trail connects with downtown (via Steelyard) and the Fulton Road Bridge is closed for rebuilding, this area is going ot be jammed. (Of course the bridge closing is upon us shortly and I realize that any potential C/P Transit Corridor is many years away.) The last I heard about the master plan was that OBNS and the CDC that looks after the Archwood-Denison Neighborhood were/are merging and they are getting their ducks in a row before they start up the plan again.

i saw a report on Fox 8 tonight. Not only where there four different camera shots, but sound as well. The reporters were trying to make a big deal of how all the passengers (probably six or seven) and the bus driver just left the trolley , calmly and quickly, without helping the victim. But to me it looked as if they were trying not get stabbed themselves.

I am more of an optimist then anything, and I am very happy to hear this. I just hope it doesn't go the way of District Park. Thanks for the news KJP
