  1. The Cleveland Planning Commission gave final approval for the Liberty at St. Clair, a joint development of EDEN, Inc. and the Cleveland Housing Network. It is a four story building located at 10000 St. Clair Avenue with 72 units ranging in size from 330 to 380 sq. ft. It is "supportive housing project for single adults in critical need of housing and in danger of being homeless." There will be a community space with kitchen, computer classrooms, multi-purpose living spaces, laundry room, case manager offices and 24 hour front desk security. Project cost: $10,000,000 Architect: Weese Langley Weese Construction to start in Summer
  2. In other CSU news: SUMMARY OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING – March 17, 2006 Major Actions Taken:(3 of 8) Approved the selection of Braun & Steidl/Gwathmey Siegel as the Architect for the Student Center project, and authorized the University Administration to enter into negotiations for architectural and engineering services for the Student Center project at a fee not to exceed comparable fees paid for similar services in Ohio, subject to the approval of the Officers of the Board. Approved the selection of Ozanne/Turner as Construction Manager for the Student Center Phases I & II, the College of Education, and a Parking/Transit Facility, and authorized the University Administration to enter into negotiations with Ozanne/Turner to provide construction management services for the four proposed projects at a fee not to exceed comparable fees paid for similar services in Ohio, subject to the approval of the Officers of the Board. Authorized the University Administration to enter into a Right of Entry agreement with the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority for the period April 1, 2006 through March 31, 2009 for the purposes of conducting the work necessary for the construction of the highway or related incidental improvements on Euclid Avenue, in substantially the same form as presented, subject to any changes deemed necessary by the President and reported to the Officers of the Board.
  3. Those are good ideas. I feel it would be a great location for a performance arts center that could build off of what is already established with Playhouse Square. I am sure something will appear there within the next, oh, I'll wager 8 years.
  4. Yes, it is. Construction on the north side of Euclid, from Playhouse Square to the inner belt is to start around Mamorial Day. The norhtside of Euclid will be closed from around Memorial Day to around Labor Day. The south side will begin after that.
  5. Plot plan for the East 17th Street Extension (cross posted w/CSU thread)
  6. Yes, Bonfoey. Thank you. I am so bad with names. The site was always slated for some sort of development. As is the Prospect lot. In the CSU Srategic Plan Survey that was recently concluded, I suggested it would be a good place for a performance arts center.
  7. In related news, the Planning Commission wants to directly work with the Art Gallery that will reside on the corner of East 17th and Euclid to address the soon to be prominant white washed wall. City Architecture is working with thew owners of the Hanna Parking Garage to reface the East side portion of the garage.
  8. I was excited to here this on the radio this morning. I read the PD article online and then looked in the forum here. Thanks KJP, for posting the Detroit articles. It's nice to get the other perspective.
  9. Here are some new Recreation Center pictures to look at:

Good article in the newest issue of Crain's. http://www.crainscleveland.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060320/REG/60317031/1053/TOC&Profile=1053 Although nothing earthshattering is brought up, the article ended with this:

Took a couple of pictures on my way to Guv's wedding reception tonight.
  13. I figured they didnot show anything because it is all still in the planning phase. That is, there are to many unknown variables at this point as compared to the other projects.
  14. Big news on CSU and EC. There will be a meeting on it next Thursday. However, I will only post about it in Virtual Levin.
  15. Thanks Guv. Also, if you have a CSU ID, spend about 15 minutes filling out theStrategic Plan Survey that can be accessed through CampusNet. They are giving away a bunch of prizes. Much of what is being discussed in this thread, as well as a few others, should be considered in the planning process.
  16. You are correct. Thanks. here is a picture of the OSU Knowlton School of Architecture
  17. Mayday: That picture was the next step from a drawing. It is only a concept. The only reason the law building is on tract to be redone is because of Lerner's (?) donation MGD: Good points. I do believe Cinci and OSU's significant buildings were funded with a hefty private donation. You should see the architecture school in OSU. The outside of it is covered in marble shingles. I don't know who did it.
  18. Vulpster03: Developers are ready and waiting. Trust me. They are waiting for two things: First and foremost, they are waiting for the EC to be finished. Nothing brings business down like construction (perception wise, that is). Especially for a new business. Second, many developers are concerned about the innerbelt project and the impact it will have on the immediate area. Mister Good Day: I agree with you on the most part. We need to remember one thing though, CSU is not Case (public vs. private) The state rarely, if ever, will pay for a signature piece of architecture. Westlake, Reed, Leskosky is doable for me as are most things from City Architecture. Good suggestion. I'll ask. The Art Plan is from 2003. It would be nice to see an update or project status. I know there were calls for proposals last year, but I have not heard anything about it since then. I thought the whole EC was going to be a WiFi Hot Zone. Anybody? (off topic comment - I wonder how feasible it would be to "plug-in" all of the lightpoles on the interstates with WiFi. Someting I wondered about for a couple of years.) Meanwhile, I found a Marshall Law Building conceptual that shows how they want to open up the Euclid Avenue side of the building.
  19. One more thing I forgot to post on the blog - immediatly after being approved, the developers submitted their application for construction permits in the appropriate offices at city hall.
  20. I always thought it would be a great ESPN Zone. This is the next best thing, I guess. And it's locally owned.
  21. That is correct. There is going to be come sort of non-Aramark Deli on the ground floor with access to an outside eating area and classrooms for the College of Education.
  22. Hold on there Cowboy. Don't get too excited. I just added more pictures showing a mock-up of one of the rooms. This mock-up is currently available to view on the eight floor. It does not look anything like what the rest f the "pre" pictures show. When I was in there, the beams that were up for drywall looked to me as if they would be covering up much of the detail. I do think they will restore the common areas though.
  23. I just created a photo set of pictures from the inside of Fenn Tower. I hope they retain as much of the old architecture as possible. There is some incredible detail in there. It can be viewed here:
  24. CSU is not building this project. They have no funding for it. The state will not pay not for it through CSU. The only way new buildings are going to be built and paid for on CSU is if the State provides funding for it. For example, Fenn Tower is not a CSU project. It is by a private developer. To paraphrase what was said by the project manager at Osborne and some folks at CSU's Architecture Department. This is RTA's baby.
