EXCLUSIVE: ODOT Expected to Announce Major Shift to ‘Fix-it-First’ Policy By Randy A. Simes ― January 18, 2016 While Ohio’s gas taxes and population have remained flat over the past decade, the Ohio Department of Transportation has continued to add capacity to roadways across the state – in some cases even building entirely new roadways to add to the state’s existing infrastructure. This may all soon be ready to change in what is being called a “major” policy shift in Columbus. According to employees at ODOT who were briefed at an internal meeting on the matter recently, the nation’s seventh-largest state is poised to announce in the coming months that the days of roadway expansion are over. Instead they say that ODOT will embrace a future focused on maintenance and preservation of its existing network of more than 43,000 miles of roads and 14,000 bridges. The rebuild and expansion of I-75 may be the last of its kind in Ohio [Jake Mecklenborg] While officials say the move is economically driven, it also comes at a time as activists around the country – including numerous cities throughout Ohio – are increasingly calling for governments to embrace a “fix-it-first” policy. An increasing number of states have been adopting such policies, with Michigan being one of the first when it enacted its Preserve First program in 2003, and California being the largest when it joined the fray last year. The forthcoming announcement from ODOT, however, goes a step further than that. In addition to focusing funds on maintenance and preservation, ODOT officials also say that they will abandon their “worst first” approach to fixing existing roadways. In doing so they say that the new program, called the Transportation Asset Management Plan, can save the state an estimated $300 million over the next six years – money that can then be redirected to other preservation activities like cleaning, sweeping, sealing and micro-surfacing. The idea here, similar to healthcare or household maintenance, is that it is often much more economical to make steady improvements rather than waiting to make repairs until the asset is too far gone. “It’s finally sinking in that we cannot continue on this unsustainable pace of highway expansion,” said an ODOT employee who spoke to UrbanCincy on the conditions of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. Ok, ryanlammi[/member] . As promised, we did see it again last night with well rested eyes and mind. Kylo absolutely killed Han. No doubt about it. So the initial theory is all but 100% a no go. Obviously though, as with any sci-fi type movie that holds on to the notion that you can hear sound in space might also find a way to disprove the scene in question. So who knows. Great theory, nonetheless.

There is hereby established the Euclid Landmark Commission which shall consist of five members appointed by the Mayor and approved by a majority of Council, one of which shall be a member of the Euclid Historical Society for the following terms: two for a term expiring December 31, 2005; two for a term expiring December 31, 2004; and one for a term expiring December 31, 2003. Subsequent appointments to such Board shall be for a term of three years each. All appointed members must have demonstrated an interest, experience or knowledge in history, architecture or related disciplines. At least two members must be preservation-related professionals, including but not limited to the fields of architecture, architectural history, history, archaeology, planning or related disciplines, provided, however, that such professionals are available in the community, as determined by the Mayor. Vacancies shall be filled for the remainder of unexpired terms in the same manner as the original appointments and confirmations. Vacancies must be filled within sixty days, unless extenuating circumstances require a longer period, where an extension may be given in writing upon petition of the City. In the case of temporary absence or disability of any member, a member may be appointed and confirmed in the manner provided above to serve during such temporary absence or disability. Such temporary member shall possess all of the qualifications of a regular member, shall have the same powers and perform the same duties, and shall receive the same compensation as a regular member during the term of his or her appointment. My fiance took me to the marathon in Valley View for my birthday this past week. (She's awesome... ask ). Episode One started at 3:00 AM Thursday morning and they ran with 15 minute breaks between each episode except between III & IV (60 minutes) , and VI & VII (45 minutes). It was amazing to see all of the episodes on the big screen again and with the proper sounds system. I thought Episode VII was amazing. Almost perfect. However, I did have an issue with yet another "Death Star", or whatever it was called. And yet another trench flight. Yeah, yeah... it is different ... but not really. We're going to see it again tomorrow. This time with well rested eyes.

From September 8, 2015: City Moves to Demolish Former Lakeshore Chevy Buildings by Jonathan Holody For many years, the Lakeshore Chevrolet dealership in Euclid served the automotive needs of residents throughout Northeast Ohio. Since the dealership closed in 2008, however, the group of decaying buildings along East 185th Street have sat empty and abandoned. That will likely change as the City of Euclid takes steps to demolish the buildings and prepare the site for redevelopment. With help from the Community Improvement Corporation of Euclid and the Cuyahoga County Department of Development, the City began to strategically acquire the abandoned and tax-delinquent properties through the foreclosure process in late 2013. The multiple structures on the 1.33 acre site were later condemned by Building officials due to severe structural deterioration. After soliciting bids, the City awarded a contract for the demolition of the buildings to Pro-Quality of Campbell, Ohio. Funding for the project will come from the City’s $1 million grant award from the newly created Cuyahoga County Property Demolition Fund. Work is expected to begin in the fall of this year. Demolition of the buildings and parking area will not only remove a blight from the community, it will also create a shovel-ready development site. With its close proximity to Euclid Hospital, Hospice of Western Reserve, Villa Angela St. Joseph High School and University Hospitals, and along the up-and-coming East 185th Street business corridor, the site has tremendous potential to attract future development. Market-based redevelopment options as well as potential interim greenspace uses for the Chevy site are being prepared as part of the East 185th Street Land-use and Transportation Plan. The plan is a collaborative effort between the City of Euclid, City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County Planning Commission and Northeast Shores Community Development Corporation.
