  1. That would be THE iconic space. Driftwood is the parent company of 87 West, Allegheny Grille, Cibrèo, Hodge’s,The Orchard House, Rothschild Farms, Washington Place Bistro, and Welshfield Inn. Although I cannot say Simon would not get involved with them as a backer, I would guess this might be another Hodgeson and/or Kuhn project.
  2. I was just told recently that one of reasons many cities are having major issues with this years pothole season (yes, I realize the freeze/thaw cycle is THE major factor) is becasue many cities are opting to not have the asphalt sealed. Does this sound right? Would the low bidder not include the sealing as part of the process? That is CRAZY if it is true.
  3. Arguably off topic - I'll call this "Info" request: I've always been fascinated with the Bridge Building. Never knew there was more of the building under the bridge deck until the picture posted by Cluless. What is the history of the bridge and the building? Thanks
  4. Cross posted in the Cleveland: General Tower City Center developments thread ****************************** The fiancee and I saw 12 Years a Slave this past weekend here (Saturday night). While there was still some work to be done with the facilities (granted, the actual festival set up was to be the following day), the picture and sound inside the theater was perfect. Film Festival visitors will be very happy with what they see and hear. Cleveland International Film Festival 2014: Digital makeover for Tower City Cinemas CLEVELAND, Ohio -- There are more than 350 films and 200 filmmakers coming to the Cleveland International Film Festival. There just won’t be any film. The 38th edition of the festival, which runs Wednesday through Sunday, March 30, is going all-digital for 2014. Nine theaters at Tower City Cinemas recently received a digital makeover with new projectors, new sound systems and new screens. The cost: about $550,000. The festival was able to upgrade the equipment thanks to partnering with some of Cleveland’s major arts and money players: Forest City Enterprises, owner of Tower City Center; Cleveland Cinemas, which runs the Tower City theaters; and the Gund Foundation, which provided the CIFF with a $500,000 loan. “It’s the only way we could stay downtown,” said Marcie Goodman, the festival’s executive director. “It’s where we want to be, and where we need to be.” http://www.cleveland.com/moviebuff/index.ssf/2014/03/cleveland_international_film_f_61.html

This is the EB traffic camera on I-90 at East 55th. Since little to no traffic is traveling WB, the freeway is now becoming completely covered from the blowing snow off of the lake

And now I-90 WB at MLK is closed due to a mult-car accident

Soooooo.... This... "Aldi hiring for more than 24 jobs at its stores in Cuyahoga, Medina, Lorain and Summit County" http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2014/03/aldi_hiring_for_more_than_24_j.html#incart_river_default So depressing. I can be a manager at Aldis for significantly more than what i make now and I did not even have to go to college. So depressing.

Would that "someone" be you? There was only one signature on it... well, now there is two. We do not live in an agrarian based society anymore.
  16. Except for Urban Ohio members, of course.

  22. And one last (possible) answer It might have something to do with the over "1,500 influencers" the scene article sited Plus staff, crew, media, safety, parking for all of them and limos, and the whole familiar (but not in Cleveland) red carpet set up we will likely only see on the news http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2014/02/27/heres-how-much-itll-cost-to-get-into-the-cleveland-premiere-of-captain-america-winter-soldier
  23. Clybourne Park is playing at the Allen Theater, and Flashdance - The Musical is playing at the Palace.
  24. They need a large venue with proper acoustics and light control. The CC doesn't have the equipment you'd get in a modern theater, Tower City might, but their facilities are third rate. Nah they don't need any of that. Nobody is there to see the film, it's an event a fundraiser. So I don't buy it, somebody dropped the ball or maybe the logistics didn't match up somehow. If PH can hold a high profile event like the RRHOF induction, they can handle this. And if TowerCity is third rate they wouldn't hold the Cleveland International Film Fest there, it would be at ValleyView. Since it is likely nobody here has been to Tower City Cinema in the the past 6 months, let me bring a few things to light. All of the theaters except for one (the one all the way in back up the stairs) has new sound equipment, projectors and screens installed. (http://www.cleveland.com/moviebuff/index.ssf/2014/01/38th_cleveland_international_f.html) Additionally, there is new carpeting being installed, the walls are being repaired and repainted, and a general sprucing up is underway. The Film Festival runs from Wednesday, March 19 through Sunday March 30. A general take down day is done on the day after the last day of the film festival; in this case, Monday, March 31. This includes removing all the festival signs, sponsor signs, rental equipment (chairs, tables, curtains, etc.) The sound and projection company has to take down all of there special equipment brought in every year only for the festival. Think of scenes you may have watched on TV during live sporting events - you know... the control room? This is what it looks like up stairs. Then the another company has to take down all of the staging equipment. Most of it is done within that one day. In fact, TCC is able to show some commercial films again to the public by the afternoon. The premiere of Captain America: Winter Soldier is on Tuesday, April 1. This is just some speculation on my part, but I have a feeling this is why the premier is not being held at Tower City Cinema.
