Euclid News
Euclid moving forward with more lakefront planning Euclid City Council members voted unanimously to continue on with the Lakefront Development Plan at the regular council meeting Monday night. With the completion of first phases of the plan, the pier and the trails at Sims Park, the next phases include planning, engineering and developing east of the pier along the lakeshore, with beaches and a marina breakwater. Frank Pietravoia, assistant to the mayor for development along with a representative from SmithGroupJJR, presented the next steps. “We have been through three major phases of contracting with SmithGroupJJR over a period of several years,” Pietravoia said. “Starting out with a brief but important marina market analysis and assessment ... then development and eventual city adoption of the Waterfront Improvement Plan ... (and) the largest phase ... moving concepts to preliminary engineering, master plan for Sims Park, and did some of the ground work.” Read on: http://www.news-herald.com/general-news/20131008/euclid-moving-forward-with-more-lakefront-planning

Cleveland CSU Wolstein Center future
I would not have posted these comments if this was my first show, or my tenth. I'm not that ignorant. I have been in this industry far too long (both as a spectator and worker) to know the difference - including here at the Wolstein/Convocation Center. I have also been on this forum far too long to just spout anecdotal musings. This is speculation, but it appears they are running it into the ground on purpose. Or, as is what seems to be the popular thing to do when a entity doesn't like their property anymore but neither has the means or desire to do anything about it, the university is doing their own version of "demolition by neglect."

Does anyone recall why SMG (likely taking over management of the convention center) stopped managing Wolstein about 3 years ago?

Cleveland CSU Wolstein Center future
It's all about the management. I saw NIN there this weekend. (from a friend) I stopped waiting in line for beverages after 30 minutes - understaffed. Bathrooms were nothing short of disgusting. And this was in the beginning of the night when there wasn't a line to get in. Plus I saw poor crowd control, fights, several pedestrian/automobile mishaps waiting to happen... not to mention the reminder of how horrible Wolstein's sound quality is for this type of event. I have been to too many arena shows in many cities to count, and I can say with complete confidence this was the single most poorly run event I have ever been to. It is almost like the management was trying hard to make it a poor experience... sorta like they have given up

No thanks. CSU Vikings Mens Basketball is the biggest draw, yet their average attendance is only 2,000 to 4,000 per game over the last 20-plus years. Their best year was 1997 with an average attendance of 4,589. SOURCE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_State_Vikings_men's_basketball That can easily be accommodated at public hall which seats up to 7,000 for basketball. I say tear it down and replace it with some high-rise student housing, CSU hotel and a conference center on the ground floor similar to the Kent State's recently built in downtown Kent. I'd rather see that kind of development go on undeveloped land. CSU just built the Wolstein in the late 80's. It houses all their athletic department--so it does serve a purpose beyond public events. What needs to happen is the University needs to give the management contract to a private firm, and give them carte blanche to run it as they see fit and compete with the Q for rentals. The competition would help attract even more shows to town with more attractive rent deals. Right now you have a state institution saying "this is our rent and we won't budge," so as you'll notice there are rarely any concerts or events there any longer. Yes, this would be the next best step.

Been driving past this almost daily - They sure are moving quickly on it. Should have no problem making the three-month time frame.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
My fingers are crossed for something truly transformative. It's an election year for the mayor and next year is an election year for the Governor. It may be big because if it's just a token effort that may not get these guys the impact they are looking for from this project. Kasich/Jackson 2014!!! :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk:

Good point - It really was envisioned for only the north side of Euclid. Here is a direct link to the Master plan from 2009/10 http://www.csuohio.edu/offices/architect/MP_MASTER.pptx

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
I know I've read comments regarding this in the past page or two, but let me re-remind everyone: these set-backs CSU has with some of the new buildings are all part of the master plan. It has always been the intention to create this "green ribbon" along Euclid Avenue. Many of the other new buildings have been built right up to the edge. I see this as a continuation of the ribbon.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
City Planning (or City Hall in general) has no say regarding the design, or site plan for any project on state owned land. CSU is only presenting to CPC to be nice. That's how it was when I worked at CSU, and likely still is. Sure, the CSU Architects office might take some input from the Commission, but they are not required to act on it.

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
Watched the 2010 Bruce Willis flick Red with the fiancee the other night (I have seen it several times - she has not), and notice for the first time the beginning scenes are all CLE related. Mostly noticeable through the winter street scene where the neighborhood has their garbage and recycle cans out the evening before garbage day like a good neighborhood should do ;)
