Cross-posted in "Cleveland: Random Developments" Port authority to build highway maintenance complex for ODOT EUCLID, Ohio -- The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority will build a highway maintenance complex in Euclid for the Ohio Department of Transportation that will cost up to $5 million and will be sold to ODOT upon completion. The cooperation between the port authority and ODOT is the result of a state law, which took effect in September, that allows public agencies to engage in design-build projects, said Brent Leslie, the port authority's chief financial officer. The agreement was reached last week. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/04/port_authority_to_build_highwa.html
  6. Cleveland is growing faster than its suburbs as young professionals flock downtown When a new job brought Stacey Brown to Cleveland from San Francisco two months ago, she went looking for an apartment downtown. Her manager told her that's where young people were flocking. Sure enough, she found a full house. "It was soooo hard finding an apartment," said Brown, an upbeat and single 26 year old. "I mean I looked for three weeks, all over downtown." The hunt was worth it. She found an opening at The Residences at 668 Euclid on bustling lower Euclid Avenue. Soon, she was meeting new friends over beers at Winking Lizard and tapping into the free Wi-Fi at Colossal Cupcakes. "It's hard not to like it," said Brown, a medical-device saleswoman for Stryker. "Clevelanders are such great people. It's that Midwest charm. And the restaurants are phenomenal." When she joined the downtown scene, she helped to swell what's shaping into a historic migration. Twentysomethings are creating a new and potentially powerful housing pattern as they snap up downtown apartments as fast as they become available. Thanks largely to young professionals, the inner city is growing faster than the outer city and the county for the first time in modern history, a recent Case Western Reserve University study found. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/04/clevelands_inner_city_is_gorn.html
  7. I was torn between creating a thread specific to this article, or maybe making "Crazy Conspiracy Theory" thread (actually, that sounds like a good idea). I went this route instead. Post general news about artists, the industry and/or events here Sounds a little hokey, but who knows "The Secret Meeting that Changed Rap Music and Destroyed a Generation"An anonymous letter that claims to be from an industry insider who witnessed a meeting that changed the direction of rap music from mostly harmless to private prison profit gouging Read the letter here: http://www.hiphopisread.com/2012/04/secret-meeting-that-changed-rap-music.html
  8. Stephanie Paganini was on Sweet Genius last night. I think nerves got the best of her. She was cut in the second (candy) round. recap: http://badmoonowl.com/2012/04/26/sweet-genius-season-2-baby-genius-recap-4-26-12/
  9. Here are some questions I have been thinking about and could not find answers to on the website: Is the casino, like many across the country, strictly 21+ only? Or will there be some wiggle room for parents that bring there kids to show them the sites? Or will it be determined by the time of day? Common sense answers this for me, but I was looking for policy in writing
  10. Just read that it will be the tallest in NYC by this time next week,
  11. Us Film fest Staff had a lunch there on breakdown day. What I would love to see is the Van Sweringen brothers space.... but I have heard from some people I'm not sure I believe that Forest City has demoed most of what remains. Anyone know?

  14. No - they cannot. However, it is really time for this law to be stricken. we all know the effects of binge drinking at closing time... well, most of us.
  15. ^That is exactly what my little brain was thinking of when I first asked the question. Forget the PD, we can discuss and analyze the impacts here
  16. Thanks urbanomics. Much appreciated.
  17. Nice shot. I was wondering why there was a crane erected there.
  18. Are they officially opened now, or are they just having a soft opening/friends and family thing. Drove by last night and it was packed.
  19. i believe most assumed 24/7 operation. If they do have closing hours, that could be a real pain with everyone leaving at the same time. I assumed that, too. But I haven't seen anything directly related to it (without having to actually go through what was voted on).
  20. I don't recall - have hours been established for the casino(s) yet? Cleveland? State-wide?
