We're #39! We're #39! The Top 50 Bike Friendly Cities in the U.S. BY ARIEL SCHWARTZTue Apr 6, 2010 Wondering whether it's a good idea to ride your bike to work? Bicycling Magazine has put together a handy list of the top 50 bike friendly cities in the U.S. (Spoiler alert) Congratulations, Minneapolis, Minn.! Some of the choices are obvious--the list would be suspect if cities like San Francisco, Portland, and New York City weren't included--but others might surprise you. Did you know, for example, that over 5% of Gainesville, Florida, residents commute by bike (it's a town built around the University of Florida, after all)? Or that Fargo, North Dakota, has over 200 miles of bike paths? All of the cities listed have populations of 100,000 or more, and California kind of got the shaft--Bicycling Magazine aimed for geographic diversity "to avoid having a list dominated by California’s many bike-oriented cities." We would also like to see some kind of ranking--surely some of these cities are superior to others. The list is handy overall, though, and clicking on each city reveals why it was picked. The magazine also has a separate list of the top 5 biking cities with populations of 100,000 of less for claustrophobic riders. Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
We actually set a record everyday of the festival this year. The only record that was not broken was single round attendance. 2009 still retains that one. See here for a list of all the awards (plus links), as well as other highlights from the festival: http://clevelandplanner.blogspot.com/2010/04/highlights-from-34th-cleveland.html

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
RTA to provide information to customers via e-mail, text message and Twitter By Karen Farkas, The Plain Dealer March 11, 2010, 8:30AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- RTA riders soon will be able to receive instant messages telling them their bus or rapid train is late, their route suddenly changed or that the weather or some other emergency has altered their travel plans. The agency is getting into social media in a big way, joining a growing number of transit agencies nationally that realize their customers count on timely and reliable service. In a few months, the RTA will start e-mailing and text-messaging riders about delays. The agency has a Twitter account, and it is considering starting a blog and joining Facebook. Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
Repost from Cleveland vs. the World (http://clevelandplanner.blogspot.com/2010/03/cleveland-international-film-festival.html): Have you bought your tickets to your favorite films for this years film festival? If not, you might want to do it soon. Some of the more popular films are already about to go in to 'stand-by' mode. If that doesn't motivate you to get your tickets now, perhaps these other bullets will get you off your keister: This past Tuesday (03/09) the Cleveland Preview Party was held at Cadillac Ranch. In previous years, the local preview party would draw a decent crowd of roughly 300 film fans, staff and volunteers. By the morning of this years party there were nearly 600 RSVP's. I don't know what the final count was but it would be a safe bet to guess it was over the 600 count. The first day of member ticket sales this year doubled the amount sold on the same day last year. Last years first day public ticket sales were roughly $18,000. This years first day public ticket sales hit a record $25,000. This year's total ticket sales to date are up roughly 23% from last year. Last year was already a record breaking season for the Film Festival. This year looks to be another one.

Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
I haven't noticed. The one thing I have noticed is the increase of litter on my street because of there ridiculous "free" version being thrown to every house once a week. I am going to be so upset again once the snow melts and the signs of their irresponsibility is apparent.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Your confusing 2 different things here. Oops... what am I missing? I remember plans for a long building between the law school and 21st, which would have had studio space fronting Euclid, and which would also have housed the theater dept. And I thought that had been scuttled in conjunction with the planned move to PHS. As with everything else, youve rather simplified it. There is the move of CSU performances to Allen, and then the Art and Theatre department, which was trying to move to E13th (which was the more recent development). The possibility of a new center on Euclid isnt necessarly scuttled (but supposedly on the back burner), but thats related more to the Allan partnership than the E13th project. http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2010/01/cleveland_state_university_art.html No, I think 327 was talking about the the plans for a black box type performing arts space that a study was done for a couple of years ago and proposed to be placed adjacent to the Music/Communication, and Law Buildings. Unless they have been cleaned from this thread (which they should not have because I put them here with permission from CSU) then you can probably find them several pages back (around the mid of 2007, iirc).
