There is no other way to go about it. It is going to have to be taken apart first. There is no way they can move the whole sculpture in one piece. Plus, there is the foundation issue that is going to be need to hold the 20+ tons of art. IMO, CWRU should be helping with this restoration since their engineering department/students created much of the inner workings.

Are there long term plans in the CSU master plan to use this lawn? Certainly something can go there someday, no? The Master Plan has this staying as green space, but there was very early discussion with some of the faculty about possibly expanding the Urban College to create a lab along the lines of Kent's UDC. But that was before last year's financial issues and is likely nowhere near being on anyone's radar.

I imagine there would be a plaza of some sorts. Did you know the sculpture is actually interactive? There is a button you can push and its starts talking to you. What does it say you ask? Gibberish... just like the real thing. Of course you would not know that because its current location is not the most pedestrian friendly, for one. And it is currently not functioning. In fact, all 20+ tons of it (yes, I said 20) is in a complete state of disrepair. The Beak is broken; paint is faded; rust throughout. The spinning wheels are the only part of it that still "works." If you click on the link with the powerpoint presentation, you will see detailed photos showing the disrepair. http://docs.google.com/Presentation?id=ddf897p_943g9466qm4

It's also funny how a crew can work in the City of Cleveland downtown in shorts with no hardhats...and tennis shoes And it appears a person from the same crew can operate a power saw with one hand.

IIRC, Fox8 had something last night nfght that claims the current tax may possibly be extended to cover any overages. But I was playing Scramble on FB, so it did not have my full attention.

Ok folks, here are renderings from the study i did looking for the best location to put the sculpture. One of the first places I looked at was the land north of the new rec center. It is owned by ODOT and supposedly is to remain green space in perpetuity. This first one is located near the center of the parcel and running track. Another version This version shows the sculpture closer to the Chester/East 24th corner. This is in front of the Communication building. This was quickly ruled out as there are plans (sometime in the future???) to have new construction here. Then I thought how funny it would be to put it in the parking lot next to the brand spanking new Administration Center - I was not even allowed to put that option in the final report. In front of the Science building, adjacent to Fenn Tower. Two spots in on the Carnegie side of the Wolstein Center did create some interest Back to Chester, in front of the tennis courts. On Euclid Avenue next to the Urban College. This was the spot someone high in the administration was gunning for, much to the dismay of Urban College faculty. A better shot - god, could you imagine if this was actually placed here? UGH!! These next three are on the NW and NE corners of Chester and 18th. First a couple from behind the Business College, next to the West Parking Garage. A better perspective And this is behind the Law Library. I believe this is the spot it will go. It is also the spot my report said would be the best location. So I guess what I'm saying is, you can all thank me for not letting this go On Euclid Avenue next to the Urban College. If you would like to see the submitted report (at least I think this is the version I submitted) you can access it by going here: http://docs.google.com/Presentation?id=ddf897p_943g9466qm4

Why? Did CSU lose some sore of bet? No. It had something to do with a donation to the university and the president, IIRC.- Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
When I left last fall it was in litigation. Something about trademarks and a battle between the professor who publicly proposed it and a former colleague who claims they thought it up. Or something like that. ************************* I found the files. I need to upload them to Flickr first, then I will post the renderings.- Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Damn! I didn't think they were going to go through with it. At least it won't be placed on Euclid Ave next to the Urban College like it was originally proposed. Didn't I post some renderings I made showing how the Politician would look next to various areas of the campus? If not, I will look for them in my archives and (re)post.- UrbanOhio Fantasy Football League
