I have not, but i see that The Painted Bird is both black and white *and* Czech, so I'm sure its brutal and soul-rending.

Just finished Rififi, and it's a banger. Dassin is in complete control of every frame. Also rewatched 400 Blows and Shoot the Piano Player, two of my favorite Nouvelle Vague titles.

I've heard thats the only way to watch the show lol.
  4. Just take the land bridge, spin it 90 degrees, and cap the whole shoreway. Easy peasy.
  5. This is obviously a pretty cool plan, but why only cap the mall extension portion? We need to bridge as much of that road as possible.
  6. They mean Amtrust, right?
  7. ^ Well, darn. There goes that idea lol.
  8. @YABO713 Tangentially related to this (I think) - how long does it take unpaid fines to generate a warrant?

I may eventually watch Sorcerer, but I'm not a big Friedkin guy. French Connection is great, but i think The Exorcist is one of the most overrated movies of all time. Bug is a better film IMO, lol.

I've seen The Man Who Fell to Earth, but I need to revisit it. Definitely want to see Walkabout, but first I have the Cassavetes box set, Rififi, and Wages of Fear to watch first.
  11. I'm talking about the whole schmear.
  12. I truly think it should be the #1 issue. It not a panacea, but its close.
  13. Have any of the candidates taken a position on regionalism?
  14. I thought it had something to do with the Haslams new stadium plans.

Finally caught up with three movies that have been on my watch list forever: Grand Illusion, The Rules of the Game, and Don't Look Now. One of those is not like the others lol.

I don't. I have been tempted to get it, but for now I'm good with what they have on HBO Max. Although, why the F*&% do they not have a Criterion Collection portal on the app? They have ones for Adult Swim, TBS, et cetera.
  17. If it’s not dead, it’s definitely on life support. Yes, theoretically the financing is in place for option C (or D, it’s hard to keep up with all the permutations), but as this is a Stark project, I’ll believe it when I see it. Benesch has been waiting way more patiently than I ever thought they would, but that patience is gonna run out eventually.
  18. Closing off Superior from 6th to 9th is simply not going to happen. Too many garages and too many people working there. They need to extend the planters and make it a tree lined boulevard from 55th (or whatever) to PS.
  19. Okay, but when. Does Mercury have to be in retrograde?
  20. It seems like Knez is gobbling up every vacant parcel in these neighborhoods. They are doing a lot of stuff in the Clark-Metro area, including two new homes on Brainard (that listed for $250k).

I was being facetious. Hollywood Babylon’s reputation precedes itself lol
  22. Any chance the font size equates to number of floors in these rising buildings?

I've never seen Kenneth Anger's name and trashy in the same sentence :p I'm finishing Easy Riders, Raging Bulls right now. @YABO713It seems that you like the science-y kind of stuff. If so, I heartily recommend The Idea Factory by Jon Gertner. Its crazy how much stuff got created there. And, to appeal to your lawyerly side, I think they go into Hedy Lamarr's contributions to wireless technology.

^ That looks interesting. Speaking of Morel, I just got Lulu in Hollywood, which is a collection of writings from Louise Brooks, who was the actress that inspired Casares. She led quite the life!
