  3. Seneca County commissioners agree to discuss private development of courthouse Full Story: http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080818/NEWS17/829078001 BLADE STAFF TIFFIN — Seneca County commissioners on Monday agreed to sit down with a team of development specialists who are putting together a plan to restore and reuse the county’s 1884 courthouse. Commissioners Ben Nutter and Mike Bridinger said they would consider a proposal for private development of the courthouse, although both had conditions that would have to be met for them to agree to such a plan, including making them whole for legal expenses and acquiring a new site to build a courthouse. Mr. Nutter agreed to represent the board Tuesday at a meeting in Columbus with state officials, attorneys, preservation consultant Franklin Conaway, and James Seney, a former Sylvania mayor who has worked in downtown re-development.

  8. Cedar Point Beach is nice as well, albeit crowded and it costs money to park at Cedar Point. If you happen to know someone who owns a home on the Chaussee (that narrow little strip of land that Cedar Point juts out on)........that private beach (few miles long) is spectacular!
  9. Toppers!!!!! http://www.toppers.com/splash.php

^Yep! The Mad River & Nickel Plate Railroad Museum is located just south of downtown. Also, I think Bellevue holds the distinction of being the only (or one of only a few) cities in the state that is situated in 4 counties (Erie, Huron, Sandusky, Seneca). Back when gas was under $1.75/gal I drove through Bellevue almost everyday to get to my community college in Fremont. Downtown/Uptown Bellevue would be a heck of a lot nicer if the US-20 truck traffic was greatly reduced (there have been plans for a bypass since the 1960's I believe). Residents interviewed for numerous stories in the local newspapers have all usually agreed that the truck traffic kills peoples' desires to frequent Main Street..........in this case, the through traffic seems to hinder business. The one thing I hated was driving through there all jammed up next to dozens of trucks and worrying about back-ups (not something you would expect from a city of 8000). If US-20 truck traffic were to ever be rerouted, some major streetscaping (currently, downtown is treeless) done, and more businesses willing to open up shop......Bellevue would be in better shape!
  15. Back to work - for now By MARY LISA BOOSE - Reflector Staff Writer | Friday July 25 2008, 11:28pm http://www.norwalkreflector.com/articles/2008/07/26/front/iq_589324.txt There's good news with the Norwalk Furniture situation. About 300 workers will be back on the job Monday for at least a week to finish orders already stated. The state has agreed to help the company through a low-interest loan. And Comerica Bank is back at the bargaining table.
  16. 17. Golf carts hit streets today in Sandusky By RICHARD PAYERCHIN, Sandusky Bureau Chief 07/23/2008 http://www.morningjournal.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=19865923&BRD=1699&PAG=461&dept_id=46371&rfi=6 Golf carts can head straight from the links from the 18th hole to Sandusky's city streets starting today. A month ago, Sandusky City Commission approved legislation making golf carts street legal, with some restrictions, with a 30 day delay for the law to take effect. The issue has generated ''a ton'' of telephone calls to the police department from people asking about getting golf carts on the streets, said acting police Chief Charlie Sams. For more information about Sandusky's legislation, visit www.ci.sandusky.oh.us. For information about Ohio's driving and vehicle laws, see www.bmv.ohio.gov.
  18. The news just keeps getting worse for north central Ohio. 19. Norwalk Furniture suspends operations By CORY FROLIK | Monday July 21 2008, 11:49pm http://www.sanduskyregister.com/articles/2008/07/21/front/doc488546edc335e749923044.txt NORWALK - Things were looking up for Norwalk Furniture. The union voted to accept concessions to keep the recliner line local. And the company announced that it was bringing two production brands — Hickory Hill and Jaclyn Smith Home collections — to the Norwalk plant. But then the company’s more than 500 local employees were notified they were getting Monday off.
  20. This really is terrible news. Norwalk Furniture has been in the city of Norwalk for over 100 years. It is the second largest employer in the city and 4th or 5th largest in Huron County.
  21. 23. Interesting quiz: 80% General American English 5% Dixie 5% Midwestern 5% Upper Midwestern 0% Yankee I didn't like the options for that "Y'all question" because although I say 'you guys' like 90% of the time, I will occasionally say 'you all' or 'y'all' A couple of others: For the word probably, I say "pry" My Italian grandma says "sang-wich" (sandwich) My grandma from Indiana calls a green pepper a "mango"
  24. Also, WGN television newscasts and CLTV newscasts ran stories about this. Very cool!
