Winter! Post your pics here!
Today we had a rare lake-effect snow event in north central Illinois; this region is almost always on the leeward side, relative to Lake Michigan (except for today, of course).

The great Ohio railroad station thread
LS&MS/New York Central Depot in uptown Norwalk was demolished for a Tops Grocery Store.....which is set to become a Giant Eagle. People were angry that this depot was demolished to make room for Norwalk's 6th grocery store. Seriously, how many grocery stores does a town of 17,000 need? The Depot: http://www.railfan.net/railpix/railfan/ohio04-10-01/img_0383.jpg http://www.railfan.net/railpix/railfan/ohio04-10-01/img_0384.jpg http://www.railfan.net/railpix/railfan/ohio04-10-01/img_0385.jpg

Miscellaneous Pix from my Winter Break
Nothing too, too exciting.........just went up to the Marblehead Peninsula to the lighthouse and East Harbor State Park...........a cool, windy, depressing day, but I like the way some of the pics turned out. Marblehead Lighthouse Caretaker's House Cedar Point ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- East Harbor State Park Perry's Monument & South Bass Island in the distance ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Saturday January 6, we had another river flood.........this time the water was higher that the flash flood of last July; although during a "normal" flood like this, property damage and whatnot is not nearly as devastating. I took some shots from my parents' backyard, Blue Bridge, and Monroeville. Backyard Lamereaux Road / Blue Bridge Marsh Field/Park in Monroeville That's it.............nothing very urban.....oh well :-D

Utne Reader's Top 10 Most Progressive Suburbs (Shaker Heights)
Sounds like a republican idea to me :) LOL Not the sharpest tool in the shed, are we? ;) town·ship (toun'sh?p') n. (Abbr. Twp. or Tp. or T) A subdivision of a county in most northeast and Midwest U.S. states, having the status of a unit of local government with varying governmental powers. A public land surveying unit of 36 sections or 36 square miles. Um, I know what a township is.........I grew up living in a township! And I was referring to the tax aspects of townships.......which USUALLY do not have income taxes and minimal property taxes..............less taxes = typical republican ideal (which is, in my opinion and many others', good.........who wants to be burdened with too many taxes?) My blades need not be sharpened ;)

Elyria: Ever heard of it
Elyria's a nice town......the only thing that bothers me is seeing that ugly transformer-power station from Route 2..........just makes things look grungy......but then again, that is the big-box-store area :)

Medina County
I dont understand why some people wish to be away from other people LMAO! I have wondered that as well; actually your quote summarizes my father (except he was never a suburanite, just a small-towner). That is why my home is in a township with little over 1,000 people! :-D On the plus side, the nature/scenery is nice where my parents live........and in their lifetime (and probably mine) suburban sprawl is nonexistent and won't be an issue like in such places as Medina and Lorain. But anyway, I just had to laugh as you hit my dad's personality right on the head! :-D LOL

Toledo: Random Development and News
Streetscape project slated to be done in June Toledo Blade, 11/30/06 Downtown Woodville will have a whole new look by June 15. Construction on the village's Downtown Transportation Enhancement Project is to begin in early spring, now that Woodville Village Council has hired Smith Paving & Excavating, Inc. of Norwalk to do the work. Council agreed to pay the company $439,359 to upgrade two blocks of Main Street from Perry Street to Water Street as part of the project that will enhance the downtown's street lighting, sidewalks, and curbs. In addition, more trees will be added, and electrical lines will be moved underground for aesthetic purposes, said Phil Trumbull, vice president of the village's business association. He said sidewalks on the south side of Main will be replaced while sidewalks on the north side will mostly be repaired. Decorative concrete that looks like brick will be installed as a border on all the sidewalks. While the sidewalks are under construction, the above-ground utilities will be buried. "That will get rid of some obnoxious utility poles to clean up the look," Mr. Trumbull said.

The Great Snowstorm of December 1, 2006
Never before has that phrase been uttered, written or conceived. LOL I actually call my car "The Beast"...............it can put up with anything. It's driven through flood waters, weathered golf-ball-sized hail, hit morning doves and squirrels, knocked a mailbox off its post ( :-D), and only has 119,000 miles on it (not too bad for a '91 model). So, in this sentimental guy's heart, my Lumina is a beautiful creature. :-)

DeKalb, Illinois
Wow. That is a sad story. Actually, every year, about 3 or 4 people are killed in town, due to the trains. Very dangerous!
