How do you pronounce: Dayton
It's okay, though. We have Groton Township. [Gro-'in] :)

How do you pronounce: Cleveland
I usually say Cleve-lind; sometimes I say Cleve-lund; and very rarely I will say Cleve-lin ------- Heck, I can barely pronounce my hometown consistently. Sandusky can be pronounced as Sin-DUH-skee, Sen-DUH-skee, Sun-DUH-skee, and occassionally SAN-duh-skee. My pronunciation falls somewhere between "Sin" and "Sen". haha Then there's: Toledo (tuh-LEE-doh or ti-LEE-doh) Lorain (loh-RAIN or lur-AIN) Elyria (ih-LEER-ee-uh or eh-LEER-ee-uh) .....oh, linguistics!

Marion, Indiana
What the heck were you doing in Marion!? haha. My mother is from there; my grandmother and most of that side of my family still reside in Marion and the surrounding area. Even though I visit there a few times a year, it was still nostalgic looking throught these photos....thanks! :) On a side note, one of the things that bothers me about downtown Marion is that ugly 6 story government building / jail on the southeast corner of the square....hideous! On the bright side, Marion was fortunate during the last round of the GM factory closings. The Marion stamping facility was up against the Mansfield stamping facility in Ohio (coincidently where my father worked)....needless to say, Mansfield wasn't so lucky but Marion was. Also going for Marion is Indiana Wesleyan University, which as my grandma says, is the only thing keeping the town alive...

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
Along the lines of school district / city boundary issues, here's an interesting article I read a few days ago in the Lorain Journal. This is anti-regionalism, in my opinion; let's not start a dispute between two neighboring cities! Basically, councilmen in the city of Amherst would like to annex portions of the city of Lorain that lie within the Amherst School District (who's boundaries extend into the west side of Lorain, where all of the new developments are occurring): Amherst councilman pushing to annex part of Lorain's west side By SCOT ALLYN | [email protected] | accessed 03/12/2010 LORAIN — Residents of Lorain's west side might wake up one morning and find themselves residents of Amherst, if a plan by Amherst City Councilman Joe Gambish to annex a portion of Lorain is carried out. Gambish, Amherst's 3rd Ward councilman, said he wants the Lorain families whose children attend Amherst schools to become residents of Amherst. He didn't know how many properties are involved. Other States: Passenger Rail News
They are two different routes. The Chicago-Rockford-Dubuque line is in far northern/northwest Illinois (closer to the Wisconsin border). The route heads to the northwest out of Chicago. The Chicago-Quad Cities line is another route about 70 miles to the south. This route heads to the southwest out of Chicago. Methinks you were mistaking Davenport, Iowa (Quad Cities) and Dubuque, Iowa as the same city. :) No harm done, though.

Some good news from my neck of the woods.... ---------------------------------------------- Gov: $60M from state capital plan will go to local Amtrak route By Matt Williams RRSTAR.COM Posted Jan 30, 2010 @ 05:40 PM ROCKFORD (IL) — It didn’t take long for the state to respond to the news that federal money would not be used for passenger rail in Rockford. During a stop today at Chicago Rockford International Airport, Gov. Pat Quinn announced that $60 million in state capital funds will be used for an Amtrak route that will run from Chicago to Dubuque, Iowa, with a stop in Rockford. Quinn, who was joined by several state and local officials, made the announcement just days after figures released by President Barack Obama’s administration showed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds would not be funneled to Rockford’s Amtrak project. Work on the project could begin as early as this summer with hopes of service beginning by 2012. http://www.cityofavon.com/citydocuments/I90handout.pdf Since the time of that publication, Westlake has closed off Avon Road on the south side of I-90 at the county line, and has approved the Tri-C campus at the county line on the north side of I-90, effectively cutting off these potential connections/marginal roads between the two cities. I remember reading about the whole Avon Road closing debacle in the Morning Journal, I believe. I understand Westlake's concerns for congestion, but maybe connecting Chester/Just Image/Clemens Roads between the two cities will ease traffic flow at the Crocker exit....or maybe it won't. LOL Thanks for the info, buckeye1! :) PS. I was unaware of the new Tri-C campus being built out there.....that is indeed a road block (literally).- Favorite Music At The Moment?

NASA Plum Brook upgrades continue By TOM JACKSON - Register Staff Writer | Wednesday, February 3, 2010 1:40 AM EST PERKINS TWP - NASA is continuing to spend millions of dollars to provide upgrades at NASA Plum Brook Station, leaving the local NASA facility well-positioned to compete for work. That's the word from Woodrow Whitlow Jr., director of NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. He said Glenn is receiving about $20 million during the current fiscal year to allow it to complete modifications at the Space Power Facility, the huge vacuum chamber at Plum Brook. Mercy to build $40.5 million new hospital in Willard By AARON KRAUSE - Reflector Staff Writer | Wednesday February 03 2010, 9:21am WILLARD - Mercy Willard Hospital is planning to build a $40.5 million, two-story facility, with groundbreaking scheduled for July. Marsha Danhoff, rural division senior director, said the current 80,000 square-foot hospital is landlocked on 1.6 aces at 110 E. If access is the main concern for the Cleveland Clinic and surrounding businesses (ie. the Duck Tape place), I don't see why Chester Road (which runs north of and parallel to I-90) can't be upgraded and extended to Crocker Road. Then you'd have an access road (Chester Road) that runs from I-90/Route 611 exit at the west, past the I-90/Route 83 exit, and ending near the I-90/Crocker Road exit at the east. Another interchange at Lear-Nagel Road seems a bit redundant, in my opinion.- What Mass Transit Systems Have You Ridden?
United States: * Chicago CTA bus * Chicago L * Chicago Metra rail * San Francisco BART Not sure if these are considered "true" mass transit..... * Sandusky-Cedar Point ferry (non-existent today) * Port Clinton-Islands ferry ----------------------- Italia: * Rome subway * Rimini bus system * Venice ferry .....I have yet to ride an Amtrak train or any mass transit system in Ohio (probably because I don't live there at the moment LOL). I know some in my family like to drive (bear in mind, they're coming from the west) to the Triskitt? station (easy parking) and take the Rapid the rest of the way to an Indians game, etc. Maybe some day for me :)- Metro Cleveland: Road & Highway News
I-90 exit on the FAST TRAC Published: Friday, January 29, 2010 By RICHARD PAYERCHIN [email protected] AVON — The new Interstate 90 exit at Nagel Road in Avon is in the fast lane for development. Ohio's Transportation Review Advisory Council voted yesterday to create a new FAST TRAC review process to speed review of key transportation projects around the state. No. 1 on the list: the Nagel Road interchange, a $23.7 million project that will connect the road to I-90, a new five-lane Nagel Road bridge and upgrades at the intersection of Lear and Chester roads. The highway exit was one of five the TRAC picked yesterday for the FAST TRAC process.
