Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Whoa. This thread has gotten messy. I am glad that funding was allocated for most of this corridor; some is better than none. It is a shame that downtown Cincinnati wasn't able to make the cut this go-around. But I supposed 10 miles to a Sharonville station is better than Akron's 35 mile trek to Puritas/W-150th station; or Toledo and Youngstown's current non-existence. This is just the start, however! But for now, Yay Ohio! :)

Norwalk / Huron County: Development and News
Not too surprised at this one, given the economic climate (specifically of Huron County, whose unemployment rate was nearly 20% this past month) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Applebee's pulls plans for Norwalk restaurant http://www.norwalkreflector.com/articles/2009/03/23/front/iq_707509.txt By MARY LISA BOOSE - Reflector Staff Writer Monday March 23 2009, 11:36am Rumors have been circulating for months and Norwalk Mayor Sue Lesch confirmed it this week — Applebee’s is not coming to Norwalk in 2009. But Lesch still holds out hope that the restaurant chain will come to the community once the economy picks up. “I haven’t given up on Applebee’s,” she said, adding that the chain will not build any new restaurants this year. “Hopefully they will be building soon and hopefully it will be in Norwalk. I’d like them to know we still want them here.

Sandusky-Erie Islands: Random Development and News
I thought this article would be interesting for those of us who are enviromentally concious, pro-green, etc. etc. :-) Barnes Nursery, Sawmill Creek collaborate on organic recycling Sunday, March 1, 2009 1:19 AM EST By RICHARD PAYERCHIN http://www.morningjournal.com/articles/2009/03/01/news/business/mj681732.txt HURON TOWNSHIP — The newest type of commercial recycling in Ohio does what home gardeners have done for years. It takes organic waste — food and its paper-based packaging — and instead of it going to landfills, the material is composted and blended with soil. The result is nutrient-rich fertilizer for residential and commercial use. For more information, visit www.barnesnursery.com , www.sawmillcreek.com , and www.cityofhuron.org

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
Good things happening here! Even if the West Shore line terminated in Vermilion for the time being, this would be a very nice alternative for travel options in Erie & northern Huron counties. However, extending the service a little further west to Sandusky would be great; I honestly think it would benefit transportation for Sandtown and the numerous cities and towns within proximity.....Huron, Port Clinton, Clyde, Bellevue, Norwalk etc. (same can be said for the Ohio Hub plan) The only thing about the case for "taking the train to Cedar Point" is the need for a connection from the station in central Sandusky to the peninsula.....shuttle bus!

Ugly Drug Stores
Some of these are too ugly! If you stand at one intersection in Norwalk, you can see Rite-Aid, Walgreens, and CVS.....not to mention the now-vacant Giant Eagle grocery store (all with sprawling parking lots, all within a half-mile of each other, and all within a couple of blocks of Main Street / Uptown :(
