Cleveland: Downtown: Skyline 776 (City Club Apartments)
I toured the building again yesterday and it's making progress, albeit slowly. The first residents are moving in Monday. There is a delay on the Murphy Beds so I decided to push my move in date to mid June. By then all the restaurants/retail should be open. Late May is still the plan. Gym equipment was not in yet but should be by Monday. Elevators work, but nothing else amenity wise is complete. Getting there slowly but surely. The theater room is a big disappointment. The room is nice, but there's no projection screen or even a huge TV. It's just a regular TV in a theater room. It's kind of ridiculous and honestly a bit embarrassing IMO. I asked, and the TV in there is the final TV. Kinda shocked. On the other hand the Sky Deck looks bigger in person than expected. Still not going to be ready until late July, but very excited. The plan is for live music and or DJ's on weekends. The plan is for the pool to be open from March to November, which is nice. Heated of course.

I can confirm residents can move into the building as of the 15th. The ground level restaurants are supposed to open by the end of May and the rooftop pool by the end of July. My unit is available as of the 15th but I am not going to start my lease until May 9th. Because of all the delays they allowed me to decide a convenient date to start my lease.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Are they still the same person? Proof is in an Ohio City location now. The GM of Proof referred to the owner of Visible Voice without mentioning he also owned Proof. I'm not saying it's not true, but it's weird he didn't mention the owner of Visible Voice was the same owner as the owner of where he worked. The guy definitely sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

I spoke to the GM of Proof last night who knows the owner of Visible Voice and he said it's a move. He doesn't know what will go in the current Tremont spot upstairs.

I have been a few times and it's excellent. Both for dinner and brunch. Definitely worth going out of your way for.

The way to ensure independents survive is to patronize them. I'm not trying to be flippant. But that's it. I personally value independents. I mostly avoid chains and could save a lot more money by utilizing chains more. But value is subjective. I get more value out of independents. Others get more value out of chains. If we end up living in a world of cheap big box retailers it's because people value them more than they value independents. That's not us on this forum, but we're a minority I think. I do not want more chains, particularly in Ohio City. But I believe that should be for consumers to decide. I don't think the playing field should be rigged in favor of small business or chains. What I am concerned of is there are instances where chains get subsidies an independent business does not. (I do not have local examples. I'm speaking nationally) If a Starbucks were to end up where Flying Fig was and they get so much as a penny's worth of subsidy, I'd be furious. It's hard enough for small businesses to survive.

I'm not happy with Pearl Street closing and having a vacant space, but it seems often times people conflate something personally undesirable to them as necessarily wrong or immoral, or in this case greed. Again, I don't like Pearl Street closing. I wish the owner would offer lower rents, but they're a business. I would not look at an Ohio City homeowner trying to sell their house for as much as they can or rent their house for as much as possible as greedy. For some reason when it's a wealthy person or a company, doing the exact same thing, it becomes viewed as greed. That being said. I really hope Pearl Street reopens in some other vacant space that is more affordable. I also hope the current location gets rented out quickly with a place that can make a profit with those high rental rates. If that happens, it's a good sign for the neighborhood.

Cleveland: Hotel Development
I think that the "star" ratings are a generic term based on whoever chooses to rate them. However, when people talk about Cleveland's only 5 star, I think they may be thinking about AAA's 5 Diamond rating. I believe this is sort of the gold standard in hotel rankings and people often confuse it with the star ratings. I believe AAA exclusively uses the diamond ranking system. https://www.clevescene.com/news/three-cleveland-hotels-receive-aaas-4-diamond-rating-41505482 This link is a year old, but it mentions only The 9, Ritz, and Inter-Continental are 4 diamond. No Ohio hotel made 5 diamond. Although I recall a few years back the Walden Inn did reach 5 diamond. I would have to agree that the 9 (Metropolitan) and the Ritz are the two nicest hotels in downtown.

Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
I don't think you're giving enough credit to MLS. There are some quality players in the league, including Lionel Messi. It is much improved and I think it is for sure within the top 20 leagues in the world. I agree, it's not elite and it's probably below 10.

I used to hate emojis, but I have grown to use them as a tool for conveying emotion on the internet / texting. A well selected emoji can completely clarify what one is trying to convey.

The leasing agent said it's called a "sexy bathroom" because of the 10 inch shower head. I'm not kidding. I mean, I guess I'm used to a 4 or 5 inch shower head. 😏

I like it. It allows for a tiny studio to feel a little bit larger. If it was permanently open, that would be a non starter, but the option to have it closed makes the unit slightly more versatile.

Cleveland: Downtown: Skyline 776 (City Club Apartments)
You know what, that's a good point. Honestly, if I had the option to have more luxurious finishes, but it increased the cost of the unit, I would decline the finishes. I picked this building for location and amenities. That being said, for the price point I would have hoped for better finishes, but the reality is, it would come with an additional cost.

They most certainly are not. I think around $2.50 a square foot. Some even $3. I think the only comparable price point downtown is Beacon and Lumen.

I went with the smallest possible unit, which the agent said was very similar to the studio unit shown above. When it's finished, a Murphy bed will be installed, with a chaise lounge right next it. Hopefully that will make the entire unit look better. I also picked a Euclid facing unit. No balcony. Sent from my SM-G991W using Tapatalk

I'm laughing so hard right now. I am not offended in any way, but the lady with the boots is my girlfriend. You wouldn't believe how she CONSTANTLY gets compliments about those boots. Fashion is in the eye of the beholder, much like construction design.

Exactly my sentiment. The amenities and location are why I signed on. Right next to CVS, Heinens, coffee shops, a gym, Jacobs' Field, The Gund, and Playhouse Square. I lived in the Flats at East Bank when it opened, which was really cool, but the immediate amenities were bars and restaurants only. The finishes in that building were equally disappointing. I really hope it looks all better once it's completed at City Club, but my first thought walking into the rooms was disappointment. However, I as well plan to spend little time in the room. I also got a studio, and having a murphy bed is a really cool use of space and a unique option that I'm not sure is available anywhere downtown. And yes, drinks on the roof will be really since the roof is not open to the public. I asked about that and they said the rooftop is expected to be completed in July. That is very disappointing as well, because that might be the top amenity of the building and having it open on Memorial Day would have been nice.
