  1. Wasn't Zaremba the one responsible for creating "world class signage"? haha
  2. what is the difference exactly between a true verizon store or an authorized seller? i use verizon, and i can't tell the difference
  3. The Rock Hall had done a free outdoor summer concert series outside in their plaza for at least the past four years on Tuesdays with 2-3 bands. Quite a few downtown and nearby residents head down there for the concert. Good turnout. You see a lot of bicycles. Last year, the food trucks were present. It is a really nice event. Beer and wine are available to purchase, and I forget exactly, but they are reasonably priced.
  4. Are there any renderings or links for more info on the Market Square Park redevelopment. I know I had seen things in the past, but work is well under way there and I haven't been able to find any recent info.
  5. I don't have a problem with at 1.75% pay increase for Calabrese. He has a nice salary compared to the average person, but that increase is still pretty insignificant. It isn't even a cost of living increase. $4,000 isn't anything to flip out over. And it certainly won't do much to restore service. Now the bonus is another matter, but boards generally don't just give them away. Some goals must have been met. If the budget is healthy, then he probably deserved it.
  6. There is quite a lot of property that is either available for purchase or underutilized directly around the Transformer Station. That whole dilapidated "Man's World" mixed-use complex/building directly north of the Transformer Station is for sale. All that land nearby is still cleared for the once planned Dexter Place townhouses. I also assume Gillespie still has site control and plans in hand for the Detroit-Superior Lofts building. Bop Stop and Club Cleveland Buildings are for sale, right? I hope something spins-off the transformer station.
  7. If Phase One is successful, why wouldn't they go ahead for Phase Two? The only way I see Phase Two being shelved is if Phase One doesn't meet revenue expectations. This would be an unfortunate scenario, but I think Gilbert has intentions to build Phase Two. How much did the gaming company pay for the Huron Road land? I think it was $85 Million. I think I would build something there if I spent $85 Million on land.
  8. That video was great. Thanks for posting. Fifteen minutes well spent.
  9. There really aren't too many casual "pub" type places anywhere in the University Circle and Cleveland Heights area. I suppose there are Winking Lizard and McNulty's on Coventry, or Kobalt and Tavern Co. on Lee Road, but nothing like the plethora of pubs as seen on the West Side and Lakewood. ABC sounds like a nice addition to University Circle. I wonder of Dim and Den Sum is considering a move to Uptown.
  10. I mentioned earlier that a specialty Chili restaurant was coming to Ohio City on the 3900 block of Lorain. I just learned earlier that the space next door will become a more upscale clothing exchange store called Rag Refinery (Opening in February).
  11. wow. i haven't been to Oxford in three years now. awesome stuff!
  12. The Downtown Self Storage Building has a new owner and he has been busy with transforming the upper floors with a lot of remodeling. It looks really nice, and I went to a party there last month. I believe the self storage component will stay, but the upper floors will now be artists' space. Future plans include a coffee shop on the ground floor and a green roof. http://downtownselfstoragecleveland.com/

My loftmates are in a band, and they just released a new EP. Not a huge fan of the video, but it is their newest one.
  14. The sign is up for Alaturka, and it looks pretty swank. Also, there is a chili restaurant called Palookaville opening up on the 3900 block of Lorain. It should be pretty cool, because I know the proprietor and went to a chili tasting last week. He is an artist and formerly ran a Cleveland alternative arts magazine called Pink Eye.
  15. I noticed XYZ got their liquor license approved by voters in the most recent ballot issue. It was approved by a narrow margin.
  16. I could have sworn there was an East Side Market somewhere owned by the city of Cleveland, and it was relatively newer. It maybe bagan in the llate 90s or early 2000s. It didnt make it.

Its been a couple years since I posted. Remember me? Anyway, I've really been enjoying the past couple years in Cleveland and have been following the local music scene. Thought I'd share some of my favorite band, Hot Cha Cha. They just won best girl band in Scene Magazine's "Best of Cleveland" issue. Their full length album release party is tomorrow and they are playing with other "Best of Cleveland" winners, Uno Lady and Freedom.
  18. I'm going to get back into the forums and wanted to bump this thread. May have been discussed in the Gordon Square thread, but the owner of Room Service (also the organizer of Made in the 216) is openning a temporary 216 Holiday Shoppe or something like that next to the Capitol Theatre. I believe the concept are locally crafted holiday decorations, but I'm not sure.
  19. I'm looking forward to seeing the economic impact of the movie theatre on the neighborhood. I think that will be huge more than any singular thing to date.
  20. Maria's - an Italian restaurant - on Detroit in Lakewood appears to be closed.
  21. I think the storefront is right next to - and directly north of - that red brick Byzantine (or Eastern European) Catholic Church
  22. They have a lot of live music and bands. To be honest though, I have only been going to Matinee on Sunday or Tuesday nights. Sundays are Electronic/Drum & Bass, and Tuesdays are Open Mic nights. No one is ever there before 10:30 even though they open at 7 PM. The Open Mic nights are pretty good and although mostly acoustic stuff, there is some poetry readings and experimental music. It is worth going sometime. It is a little edgy, but very casual and people seem friendly enough to struck up conversation.
  23. As of lately: Now That's Class (The Edge) Happy Dog (Detroit-Shoreway) Backstage (Kamm's Corners) Mars Bar (Lakewood) Beer Engine (Lakewood) Matinee (Duck Island)

I have biked to work two days now, and I am still trying to figure out how to deal with my attire. It was and is my biggest concern about riding to work. I don't wear a suit, but I still wear a shirt, tie and slacks. First of all, I took a more leisurely pace than what I normally do, so I allotted myself a lot of time. Even though the days were warm, it was early enough (7 AM) that it didn't matter too much. I learned after my first experience to put my dress shoes and fresh undershirt in a bookbag.
  25. I checked RTA's Web site, and no, there is not a #326, but there IS a connection at that station to the #26. I will ask that the script for that station be double-checked. The #326 used be the Detroit-Superior line. But something like a year ago, they split the routes 3 - Superior, and 26 - Detroit.
