  1. I like the layout and overall design of MayDay's poster, but some of the photos used in KJP's mock-up grab my attention more, and I like the diversity of what Cleveland has to offer as depicted with the photos he chose. I like the sailing shot, also the tree-shaded cafe dining shot looks charming and inviting, and that pic of the 4 people in the loft apt./condo with the hardwood floors and windows overlooking the city strikes exactly the right note. Obviously I know you guys are working with what you have available right now. But in any final ad, I would want to see a diversity of really striking photos of Cleveland's greatest assets. My attention would be drawn by seeing people at outdoor cafes, maybe a photo from a festival like Parade the Circle or Ingenuity, some "beauty shots" of natural assets like the lake or the parks, the inside of the art museum or Severance Hall, E. 4th street at night with all those lights, you know, some of the real gems of Cleveland. Perhaps mention should also be made of the convenient central location of Cleveland in relation to other major metropolitan areas?

On Clifton, just west of 117th.
  3. I dunno, they might do good business with the younger crowds that come out of HOB after the concerts every night. That area gets decent foot traffic after games at Jacobs and the Q also.
  4. Whenever I read articles about developments like Crocker Park and Legacy Village being called "New Urbanist" projects, it makes me think that apparently the term must have been derived with the thinking that "New" stands for "Plow down or build miles away from any yucky old structures so we can build it all brand spanking new", and "urban-ist" meaning, "it's kinda like being like urban, except without the crime, poor people, minorities, history, culture or character."
  5. No, but there's no smoking where I sing, so somebody would make you put it out anyway...
  6. Got a degree in Environmental Science from BGSU, worked at the St. Joseph County Parks in South Bend, Indiana for a while as a Seasonal Interpreter (and no, that doesn't mean I looked outside and told people, "Yep, it's still winter.") Basically I was a naturalist for the busy season (spring, summer, fall). Then I worked for an Environmental Consulting firm for a while, then I moved back to Ohio and worked at an internet company in Akron doing quality control and a little programming. Then I worked at the Summit County Metro Parks in Marketing. Simultaneously I was performing at Pickwick & Frolic on the weekends in the Midnight Martini Show. I have since left the parks and moved to Cleveland to perform more. I also work part time at Star Restaurant at Playhouse Square as a "singing server" to make ends meet (Yes, it really IS as glamorous as it sounds. :wink2:). Man, my career has taken an odd path...

Born in Old Brooklyn (an older suburb of Cleveland). Moved to Stow, Ohio when I was four and grew up there. Bowling Green for college. South Bend, Indiana for a work after college for a few years. Back to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio for a few years. Just moved to Lakewood, Ohio about a year ago, best place I've lived so far. Just joined this forum, see my intro in the Where do you live? thread. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=2178.0

Hey there! I'm a little late to this thread. I've been reading the forum for a few days now, and this is my first official post. It's nice to see others (KJP, MayDay) from my neighborhood on here. I live in a small one-bedroom apartment on Clifton Blvd in Lakewood near the intersection of Cove and Clifton. I moved up here from Cuyahoga Falls a year ago. I work downtown, so when contemplating my move I considered Tremont, Cleveland Heights, Little Italy and Ohio City, but settled on this section of Lakewood for the neighborhood feel, walkability and easy access to downtown at a price I could afford. Plus I have lots of friends who live in Lakewood. Like KJP, I have a wide variety of ethnicities in my building. I would guess half the building might be foreign-born. Ideally I would have liked to live in one of the apartments above the retail strip on Clifton, but I am still within easy walking distance. I also frequently walk by the developing Rockport Square area to check out the progress. I am not involved in urban planning, design, architecture or any related field, but I am very interested in intelligent urban planning and urban renewal, I'm a city gal at heart. I love Cleveland and watch its progress with great interest. But perhaps this is better suited to another thread on "what do you do for a living?" or "Why are you here?" P.S. to KJP, MayDay and other Clevelanders, do you read Cool Cleveland? Did you see the rumor today about Truffles closing? I am so bummed.
