Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
Disaster on E. 4th Street last night. The basements of all the businesses on E. 4th were completely flooded by a water main break. For Lola and Pickwick, who have large and expensive public dining/entertainment areas in the basement, this has got to be pretty devastating. Perhaps the concert hall at HOB too, I don't know how low that stage area is. I was at Pickwick about to go onstage for the Martini Show at 11:45 when I heard the sound of rushing water coming from the wall behind me (the outside wall in the cabaret). Brown water started gushing in through an access panel in the wall and spreading over the carpet. The staff immediately started throwing down tablecloths, hoping to contain it to the upper back cabaret area, but it soon started pouring down into the lower level around the stage. We stopped the show, and everyone had to get out. As I was leaving about 15 minutes later, the water was still pouring in, and the lower stage level of the cabaret had become a pond. Last I heard, by the time they finally got the water shut off around 2 am, there was 3 1/2 feet of water covering the entire downstairs. I still have not heard whether we are going on with the shows or not tonight. They have a huge headliner in the comedy club tonight too (Mike Epps) with an extra late show and extra show tomorrow, which I believe were all sold out. I haven't heard what caused the water main break. I wonder if it was related to the construction on Euclid...

Buckeye Building (and relocating to Cleveland)
I have a friend who lives in the Osborne and I think it's fairly reasonable plus a little closer to "the action" around the Jake and E. 4th.

YOUNGSTOWN with the top down!
I used to work for the MetroParks in Summit County and we had quarterly marketing meetings with other park systems to share ideas, and each park system would take turns hosting it. When we visited Mill Creek, I can't tell you how impressed we were with their Visitors Center and surrounding grounds. It really blew us away how fantastic that place is, all the other park systems were jealous.

Urban Ohio Day of Service!
Since spring is here, I thought it might be time to revisit this idea and plan a spring cleanup of some neighborhood or park? Any Cleveland UOers interested?

Cleveland: Retail News
This is the exact same experience I have had when I have gone in there. Some better customer service, organization and a small comfortable seating area would do wonders for the place.

Yes, that's what I meant when I called it a small town.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Yeah, kicking off with the National City promo speech, you could almost hear an inaudible collective groan from the audience..."oh god, is this what the entire event is going to be...?" I appreciated the guys like Ari Maron and the lady from Fairfax Dev. who actually talked details about what they are working on, rather than just generalizations and boosterism talk, which is what it seemed like Stark was doing. And it didn't seem productive to me to bash developers by name regardless of what you think of them. This is a small town, you may need to work with some of these people one day. And I agree, the talking and mingling was very distracting and rude to the speakers and people who were trying to listen. Who was the UOer who got up and tried to get everyone to stop talking?

Cleveland: Downtown Cleveland Alliance News & Discussion
Here's something I've never understood: if you want to sell product or solicit in a public area you have to get a permit don't you? Like they hot dog vendors and Browns day sportware vendors and such, they have a permit to be at that location hawking their wares, or if you want to even play your saxophone and ask for tips, you probably have to get permission from the city I assume? Am I wrong about that? So how can it be legal for someone to stand on a corner and ask people for money? I'm just curious. Is it legal, or is it actually illegal but we choose not to enforce it?

I can't picture where this will be. What alley? The area where the valet is?

I think it would be even funnier if the roles were reversed. Granddaughter complaining there is nothing to do in Cleveland, and grandma going out partying...

Cleveland / Lakewood: The Edge Developments
Went by there today and took a couple pics. Can we assume that since the one year deadline has come and gone and there's been no word of plans, that Marous passed on the option to redevelop this site?

Lakewood: Development and News
OompaLoompa replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionHey, I finally got a memory card for my new digital camera so I am posting my first photos! Not claiming they are MayDay quality, but I think they turned out okay. Here are some shots I took today of the Rockport Square development and the surrounding neighborhood. I walk through here frequently and it is shaping up nicely, the development integrates well with the existing neighborhood and it's nice to see those old car lots filling in. The cool Rockport Square sales center: Townhomes on Hopkins: Some retail on Detroit - Diverse Universe, City Dweller, and a diner: The loft condos on Detroit. A couple "For Sale" signs, most seem to be sold: This is the view from the porch of one of the condos looking northwest along Detroit: ...and the scenic view of the lovely Drug Mart looking northeast: Most recent townhomes in back of the lofts on Newman. I don't like these as well, I think they are a little weird looking, but I think they are all sold. The new branch of the Lakewood Hospital next door. Just finished, I think it's open. Some more retail next door - a barber shop, Grand Poo-Bahs Records and some type of interior design/tailoring shop: Next to the Drug Mart, Maria's italian restaurant, a neighborhood institution: A little further down, the Phantasy night club and some boarded up storefronts that were until recently a couple of shops that sold goth and hippie type parephernalia, it says "MOVED" on the door, but who knows where to... The lot that seems to be next to be developed for Rockport, between Winchester and Ridgewood on the south side of Detroit, see construction equip in background. This would be Phase 2 according to the site map on their website. They seem to be skipping Phase 1B for now? That's it for now! I got too cold to take any more.

Merry Christmas from Urban Ohio
I got a digital camera for Christmas, so now I can finally start posting photos to Urban Ohio! Is it sad that it had to be suggested to me that I could use it to take some photos of the family Christmas festivities? ("Oh yeah, I could use it for that too...")
