Cincinnati: Downtown: 1010 On The Rhine / Downtown Kroger
I really wish the local media would stop publishing articles on rumored grocery stores. I could create quite a list of "announcements" of grocery stores to open downtown when none have ever materialized. Kroger has been saying they're interested in a downtown grocery store for a decade with nothing to show for it. Now we're "closer" to having one built? Give me a break.

The problem is that the OTRCC is so corrupt and mismanaged that it is impossible to get a fair say on anything. There are individuals that constantly work to subvert the voices of members of the community who would like to see progress in the neighborhood. I've long given up on the organization and have warned others of the sketchy behavior that has become commonplace at their meetings.

I think we could have a single story building set back a little bit to give some room to festivals. Put in the green roof that isn't open to the public so you don't need all the ADA stuff. The greenery would improve runoff, reduce heat and improve air quality in the area.

As an FYI, the pay machines do not handle kids pricing. When we went to the Metro office a bit ago the woman working the counter was extremely confused and was saying things completely contrary to the website pricing. When we asked them questions about kid pricing two weeks ago they had no idea what the rules were and it seems like that's still the case. Really sad and frustrating they made very specific rules for kids with their height, but currently have no way of implementing those rules.

Jumped on the streetcar this morning to work from 12th/Race to Fountain Square. Got to work super fast as the streetcar wasn't very full and we only stopped a few times. I think the "slowness" concerns are going to go away as we start regular service that doesn't involve packing large groups of people into what was essentially a sardine can this weekend.

A coworker just said he saw two empty streetcars go by that would not pick up people waiting at a stop. Is there some reason?

Honestly, I believe the real reason the Flynn is dropping out is that he knows he couldn't possibly win the next time around and doesn't want to waste his time trying.

My understanding is property owners don't have rights even a few feet below their property much less to the center of the earth. Correct me if I'm wrong, but electric, gas, water, sewer, etc... lines beneath your property are property of the utilities. Then there's mineral rights beneath the property which often aren't part of the deed.

According to xumelanie[/member] that cardboard sign has been there a while and a quick peep through the window makes it clear it would be a while before any bar would open there. I know there are outstanding building issues being ignored by the owner at this property and his adjoining 1130 Race property. I'm going to have to follow up with Building Inspections and the Law Department to see if we're in any danger of the bar reopening at this point.

Cincinnati: Bars / Nightlife News
Oh, dear god! We worked hard to close down that crack bar. I really hope they're not planning on opening it back up. The owner of the building has multiple ongoing property violations that he has yet to fix up and is accruing a lot of increasingly expensive fines for letting the building fall apart.

I guess if anything this discussion on color schemes just shows how far we've come over the last decade. If paint job is the biggest concern we have with the streetcar in Cincy then I'd say we're plenty ready for pushing for light rail :-).

No, that'll be the name of 12th and Race stop. We keep holding out switching to Time Warner because we were told that FiOptics is coming soon, but that was almost a year ago.

US Economy: News & Discussion
Yeah, but that's only a 2% return that may not even cover inflation when/if it starts rising again. Are you and other OU'rs out there worried that the economy and markets will do that bad over the next five years?

Cincinnati: State of Downtown
I believe it's a net wash when it comes to the City of Cincinnati because I believe they're shuffling people from the northern part of the city, but I'm also excited about the influx of workers downtown. I just hope something happens at their old location.

I sent a message to Wesley Community Services and I would encourage others to do the same. The only way we'll get these idiots to follow the law and be respectful of others is to make them accountable for their actions.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Last I heard from the Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) a couple of weeks ago, the "New Central Parkway development" has stalled. According to them, "[t]he negotiations with the developer for this property are still ongoing without a time frame for a final agreement". Here's hoping they do something soon as the open air drug dealing and now shootings on their property is getting old.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
It's currently showing the streetcar as "Off Route" which seems highly unlikely Vehicle #: Route: Over the Rhine Status: (Off route) 2 min behind schedule A truck was once again blocking the streetcars near the corner of Walnut and 4th Streets. I have a window overlooking this area and the blocking of the streetcar happens multiple times a day every single day. Until they start ticketing better and marking off that location as "no parking/stopping" (even for trucks) then the streetcars will always be off schedule.

I certainly would echo the temp to hire sentiments. I'm a software engineer and our company also does temp to hire to make sure the individual is capable (or willing to learn) and fits in with the department. I found my current job by going through a placement agency (Robert Half) who took inventory of my skills and my requirements to work in Downtown Cincinnati to get me in this gig.

Cincinnati: Urban Grocery Stores
Someone who I know who works at Kroger has made the same comment that the City of Cincinnati is holding them up, but I doubt after all these years that's truly the case. If they really had the heart to do a grocery project downtown they would have done it already. Making the City of Cincinnati the fall guy is just a convenient excuse for their lack of commitment to doing up a store downtown.
